System Overdrive part 5 of 8: Upgrade

Last issue, Brainiac took over Earth and I mean he took over Earth.  The Heroes have gathered at the few places Brainiac and his slave armies haven't conquered yet, but it doesn't look good. The only hope of defeating him is with magic, but he has built Nth Metal towers to neutralize that threat.  However, the Justice League has a magical hero that is so powerful, Brainiac doesn't stand a chance.  Right?

Christos Gage really upped the ante last issue and continues the pace here.  The Justice League is in big trouble and Earth looks doomed.  Gage is doing such a good job making the reader care about each hero.  This issue is narrated by Flash and we really see her heartbreak by the end.  Brainiac has made the fight personal and she is ready to throw down.  Unfortunately, Brainiac has turned the tables on the league and their best weapon is now his.  It really looks bad.  However, the ending scene is awesome and gives hope that maybe not all is lost.

What doesn't look bad is Iban Coello's art.  It matches what Thony Silas is doing in Batman Beyond 2.0 which makes the shared universe make sense and look great.

Bits and Pieces:

Justice League Beyond 2.0 #13 continues the stellar story with great character moments, great story and awesome action.  Times are tough for the Justice League, but couldn't be better for fans of the book.

9.0/10
