Story Time With Wonder Woman

This week it's back to Justice League Beyond and Wonder Woman takes the opportunity to tell a little tale. Since the beginning of this story (and actually the last issue of the Brainiac arc) the big question has been "Who is this Wonder Woman?"  Is it Wonder Woman or Lady Wonder Woman?  We find out this issue and the answer is a bit complicated.

Christos Gage has done such a good job of setting up the Justice Lords story.  I've said it before, this book is where we get the major developments and world building that sets up the street level Batman Beyond story.  This week we get it in spades.

We finally get to see what happened to Wonder Woman and Lord Batman. It's a story of betrayal and heartbreak and  shows how strong Wonder Woman is and the length she will go for peace. The Justice Lords Timeline was plunged into a  Batman vs Superman War and sacrifices had to be made.  It's a funny thing, though.  She never does tell Bruce and Superman what she plans to do with the Justice Lords.

However, she does tell them why she came back to our world.  For regular readers, it's such a great moment.  I can't say I'm surprised, but I am excited for one of my favorite characters in this book.

The story was great, but Dexter Soy's art is the highlight this week.  I mentioned last issue that his style fits the epic style of the book and this issue really shows that.  The Wonder Woman/Lord Batman story dominates the issue so it's a good thing it's the best looking sequence this book has seen. Spread after spread of great, action filled art.

Bits and Pieces:

Justice League Beyond 2.0 #20 finally reveals the mystery of Wonder Woman and exactly what happened to Lord Batman.  It's a setup issue, but it looks great and the cliffhanger is sure to send ripples through the League beyond this arc.

8.8/10
