Earth 2?  More Like Earth Blue..............Get It?...........Because of The Depressing Nature of The Book............Oh Yeah, You Get It

In the last issue of Earth 2: World's End we saw all about how Barda screwed over Mister Miracle and got him to unknowingly release Darkseid from his Apokolips heart eating trap.............. Yeah, I don't really know what that was about but it happened.  The whole issue was Mister Miracle getting tortured and Fury betraying Miracle as well before coming to her senses and realizing that Apokolips and Darkseid kinda suck and then she pulled a double betrayal and saved Mister Miracle and finally the two saw a meeting between Darkseid and Terry Sloan, where we all learned that Highfather has given Earth 2 to Darkseid as a way to negotiate peace........ Dick move Highfather, dick move.  Really I think it was a way to keep Darkseid busy while he did all his GODHEAD shenanigans but now that all of that is over............. It really just leads back to him being a dick.  So that's where we're at and a bunch of other stuff dealing with heroes fighting Apokoliptean monsters.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

This week's story begins with Darkseid showing us that he's back in action by reclaiming his thrown and getting briefed on what's going down with the invasion of Earth 2 and the conversion of the planet into the new Apokolips.  Yeah, that bit is kind of boring so let's move on.

Back on Earth 2 and way down within one of the fire pits we see Huntress turned into the latest Fury of Darkseid and man did she get ugly.  I'm talking about bat faced and sporting hand wings kind of ugly and no matter what kind of "remember we're friends" talks that Power Girl tries to give her; it doesn't get through.  Huntress leaves the girl talk session when she is called to her fellow Furies and we're left wondering WTF?!  So Power Girl catches up with her group of heroes and we find out about more bad news.  It seems that Superman had so much........... I don't want to say DNA because........ well because it doesn't make sense to me but he's had so much "stuff" pulled from him so the forces of Apokolips could make a clone army of him that he is now without powers.  The only good news from this is that the clones were never really successful and would eventually just die.  At the end of this segment to the story we see Desaad come out of the shadows claiming how he'll turn all of them into monsters just like Huntress and I suspect that we'll come back to this story next week with Power Girl just beating the hell out of his face.  Here's hoping!

Have you been wondering about Dick Grayson since Barbara was shot and killed and he sent his only son on a train full of possible lunatics to hopefully save his life before a tidal wave hit Chicago?  Well good that means you have a heart and can easily escape into a fictional universe like me.  You're right random reader........... Reality does bite.  Anyway, Dick appears to have lost his shit now that Barbara is dead and spends his entire segment of this issue beating up the douches that killed his wife with a baseball bat until finally he sees the tidal wave coming over the buildings and he welcomes sweet death...................  That is the most depressing shit I've seen all week.  Hopefully I still get my wish and Barbara becomes Spectre and saves Dick.  Something just needs to happen because Dick dying here isn't really an option for me...... You know because of storytelling and what not.

Back on Apokolips we see Mister Miracle get a "I won't betray you again" pep talk from Fury and elsewhere we see that Terry Sloan was ready to completely betray everyone and blow up his ship as he flew away to safety.............. Now I'm not really a violent person and usually stick with Batman's code of nobody should ever kill anyone but can't we just kill Terry Sloan at this point?  I know we see him in Futures End but seriously, we don't need that future.  Let's just kill him and be done with it.  How was he ever trusted by Batman and Superman back in the day?  Speaking of back in the day and don't quote me on this but wasn't there supposed to be a mysterious Wonder that we were supposed to find out about that worked with the original Wonders and never did?  I guess it doesn't matter but I hate loose ends.

In the end, we see the Avatar of the Blue kicking some Fury ass and we're given no background on this character or it's powers, just a display of it's ass kicking prowess.  The tables might turn though, because out of nowhere the Furied up Huntress appears to even the score.  Hopefully next week we have a bigger Avatar of Earth portion to the comic and we can see how the other Furies like the new kid in class and maybe see how the avatars like their new kid.  You're right they're going to both get picked on until they go home and bug their parents enough for them to get sent to new schools are just be straight up home schooled.......... Earth 2 is weird.

That's it for this issue of World's End and while we had little sips of some tastiness, it wasn't enough for me to really tell you that it was delicious............. Never write reviews while you're hungry.  Seriously though, I'm interested in every story that we had here but they all just seemed to start and then end right when it was about to get good.  Power Girl and Huntress fighting..... Stopped.  Commander Khan and Terry Sloan fighting.......Stopped.  Avatar of the Blue fighting and then Huntress shows up........Stopped.  Well you get the point.  For anyone who ever watched Dragon Ball Z as a kid, you'll know the frustration of waiting for things to go down and then getting really excited when you think they would just to find out that you'd have to wait for the next episode.  Hurry up and bring me awesome Earth 2!  I know you're going to, so just hurry up and do it.  So yeah....... That kind of got away from me.   So we've got a bunch of good starts that make you glad that this isn't a monthly title, all given to us with awesome art by a bunch of different people.  My favorite bits are the Darkseid section and the Mister Miracle section.  Top notch............... and the rest was good too, I'm not disparaging anyone here.  See you next week where we hopefully get the awesome that I was talking about.

Bits and Pieces:

We've got a issue here.......... just an issue.  Nothing really spectacular going down but it does allude to badassery that could come in the future.  So as a hype machine it isn't bad.  All the stories are things you'll care about but just not right now.  It's a good prelude to awesome if you want to look at it that way and it has some really decent art that meshes well together even though we're back to multiple artists.  It's not great but it's not bad so I'm kind of indifferent and pretty much useless here.  If you're an Earth 2 nut like me you'll want it but for the most part I see this as an issue that people will forgo for something else.

6.3/10

  1. As much as you want barbra to be the spectre...the violent vengence and willingness to die might make dick the spectre

    1. Yeah, he does have all that wrath and vengeance going on. But I wants what I wants.

  2. At the end it says Red Rising. Could it be true? Are we finally going to see the female Red Lantern called out by Captain Steel (FROM A FIRE PIT!) at the end of issue 13? Holy Catfish, we might get a payoff after a year and a half.

    1. It could be anything. I don't trust anything with the title Red because we've seen how the World Army loves giving their agents the Red title like Red Arrow and Red Tornado and if all that went out with Tom Taylor then it could also just be the Avatar for the Red. So much Red so little time.

    2. Yeah, when I read the title for next weeks book I instantly thought the Avatar of the Red. It would be awesome though if it was the Red Lantern.
