Mid-season replacements are common place in television land, but in the comic universe, it's a bit odd.  Sure, creative team changes happen all the time, but what Brian Buccellato was asked to do does not.  Buccellato did his best Dave Righetti impersonation and came in throwing heat and after settling in, ended the Year in style.  The best part is, he didn't rely on shock and awe, but did it with honest to goodness storytelling.  I think that all the fans of Injustice would agree that heading into Year Four (sadly, we have to wait until May), this book is 100% Buccellato's.  I know I'm kind of spoiling things, but Buccellato and Bruno Redondo nail this issue.  Want to know how...read on.

Last week's issue ended with two big things...Dr. Fate and Billy Batson heading out to face Trigon and Mxyzptlk and Raven waking up from her long slumber.  While Billy is cool, Raven is a game changer.  Buccellato doesn't waste any time and both stories intersect immediately.  Believe me, the result is awesome...and a bit sad.

While I was afraid for Billy, Dr. Fate is the one who pays the ultimate price.  Hopefully, it was worth it, but it also brings up a bunch of questions...all directed at Constantine.  Batman wants answers and the man who prepares for everything seems like he was blindsided.  Year Three has been all about Constantine and now we find out he's been playing everyone for the fool.  I have been waiting this whole Year for Constantine to show his true colors and now that he has, I understand.  Sure, he's still an asshole, but being a Father sometimes means everything in the Universe.

As Year Three ends, I have to say that Team Superman has the upper hand.  Superman has rallied the troops and I may even switch sides by Year Four.  Just kidding, I am Team Batman all the way, but Supes makes a really strong case.

Like I said in the introduction, Buccellato ends the Year with story over shock and I loved it. Constantine ended up being true to form, but gives Batman a little hint for Year Four before bowing out.  I can't wait for Year Four because I love Injustice and also because I want to see what Buccellato does with full control.

Bruno Redondo is back and I couldn't be happier.  No insult to everyone else, but this book's look belongs to Bruno.  It's his World, we all just get to live in it.

Bits and Pieces:

Kudos to Brian Buccellato for ending Year Three with story and style.  While the twist was not surprising, it was still awesome.  Awesome and a bit touching.  As it stands, Team Superman may have an advantage going into Year Four, but fans know changes can come real fast.  I wish May would come fast because the wait is already killing me.

9.5/10

  1. This issue indeed left me speechless and I was kinda sad that Dr Fate died(?).... But think we'll see more of Nightwing in Year Four? 'cause I never saw what happened to him.

    1. I hope we do...I love Nightwing. I would love to see Dr. Fate again...it did seem odd that they mention he is not quite dead.
