It's time for me to get back to reviewing Mortal Kombat X, since I've been so busy and haven't been able to keep up with it.................. Nah, I just lost track of the series as Futures End winded down and Convergence was ever looming.  Busy....Pttsshh!  Anyway, in the previous issue of Mortal Kombat X, we had one of Scorpion's students become possessed by an ancient evil that Raiden's been worrying about and after it killed all of Scorpion's clan, we had our ninja bring the demon back out after overcoming it years ago.  With the help of another of his students, Scorpion defeated the enemy, then they packed up and went to go find Raiden to see what he knows and we had our God of Thunder cast a blood spell to get a handle on the coming evil.  It turns out though that he's too late and that the evil has already started.  Let's check out this issue as we get more characters and more Kombat!

Explain It!:

Our chapter begins with us seeing that Raiden went and used up all his power casting the blood spell to connect with the Elder Gods and is going to have to take some time off to recharge and whatnot, which is a shame because from what he sees it looks like the chaos of Earth Realm and Outworld might start with Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade's daughter, Cassie Cage.

While it seems like Cassie primarily lives with her mother on a base somewhere that's top secret and the writers I guess just didn't want to make up, she has snuck away and is now crashing at Johnny Cage's place, doing what teenage girls do........... hanging out with Jax's daughter and sparring....... All teenage girls hang out with Jax's daughter, Jacqui and spar, right?  After wrecking the place up with a shadow kick, we jump to see what Sonja is doing and we find out that she's meeting with the new Emperor of Outworld, Kotal Kahn and he along with two of his warriors D'vorah and Erron Black want to discuss a Earth Realm/Outworld team up.......... Oh yeah, the times they are a changing.  It seems that Kotal has been in a war with Mileena for ten years now over the throne of Outworld and to end the conflict, he wants Earth Realm to give some aid and to take out the Red Dragon clan that's been working with Mileena.  Sonja isn't about it and that leads to a pretty big fight between her and D'vorah that Sonja quickly shuts down.  I personally think that Sonja should go for the team up because while yes, Kotal Kahn is the new Emperor of Outworld and they're known to be dicks, we know what Mileena is capable of and she should squash that shit as quickly as she can.

In the end, we head back to see what Cassie Cage and Jacqui are up to and we see that Cassie's using her father's name to get into 21 and over clubs............ that are apparently sponsoring death matches............. I was going to say something here about what kids do these days but fuck it, it's the Mortal Kombat Universe and this makes perfect sense.  As the issue closes, Cassie goes and signs up because she's like her father and impulsive but also because she doesn't realize that it's a death match.  So even though she thinks she's a bad ass and can rock the shadow kick, she allows security to force her into the ring where she's being forced to fight......... Frost!  Poor, poor Cassie.......... She was so young.

That's it for this chapter of Mortal Kombat X and while I've liked the other issues, they really come off feeling boring in hindsight after reading this issue.  I don't know if it's just cool seeing the offspring of Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage or if it's because we got to see the current status quo of the Mortal Kombat Universe and how it deals with Outworld after the events of the rebooted Mortal Kombat timeline.......... but it freaking works and this issue was funny, action packed, violent and just looked amazing.  I love the creative team on this title and if you're a fan of Mortal Kombat, there isn't any reason you shouldn't be reading this......... Especially if you're anticipating the new game....... Man, Dexter Soy's art is great.

Bits and Pieces:

While I've fallen behind on this title, this chapter really makes me wish that I had stayed with the series because I just loved this installment.  We get introduced to a lot of new characters that look amazing thanks to the great art by Dexter Soy and while the issues before this seem to be about a great evil, this chapter takes the time and tells more personal stories and let's us know what's going on with the characters of Mortal Kombat X.  You should definitely check out this issue.

9/10
