In the last issue of this Convergence tie-in, we saw the girls of the Justice League trying to surprise their friend Jesse Quick with a baby shower in Gotham but wouldn't ya know it, the festivities had to be put on hold because Jesse went into labor early........ Oh and a dome trapped the city as well.  After a year of living in domed isolation, we saw that our heroes were making the best of a bad situation....... Except for Mera....... She was just being mopey.  That is until the dome fades away and a Flashpoint Aquaman sees a double of his deceased lady love and to show how much he's missed his Boo, he straight up kidnaps our Mera and her gal pals are forced to begin the Convergence fight earlier than expected, so they can save their friend and then hopefully figure out what the hell they're supposed to do next.  Let's jump into this issue and see our super women hopefully just beat the hell out of Flashpoint Aquaman.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Now I know that we all expected a big ass fight to commence with all these #2's to this Convergence event, but god damn is there a lot of fighting........ and that's how our issue begins and remains almost till the end.  Our girls have gone underwater and are fighting every sort of sea life imaginable....... which is a hell of a lot more than I expected from a harbor trapped off from a dome.  I mean just the straight up killing of so much sea life so they could get to what they believed to be their master....... Well, it is a "Master", just not the one our heroes were looking for.  What I'm talking about is, our heroes fought through a ton of fish to make it to who they believed to be Aquaman....... only to be disappointed when they discover Ocean Master is between them and their real enemy.......... You think Ocean Master gets that a lot?  You know he goes out to get a drink at some "dive" bar and after a couple, he begins telling woman how he's the King of Atlantis and after they discover that he's not Aquaman, they're all disappointed and go home with someone else.  Poor Ocean Master.

During the big fight with Ocean Master, it looks like Vixen was able to sneak past and disguise herself as a Atlantean guard to get to Mera's chambers, where she takes out the other guards only to find that Aquaman was posing as one of them............ Which is really odd to me.  Why would Aquaman have to play dress up?  So of course a fight breaks out once Aquaman looses his disguise and says "Fooled You", but it seems like Vixen is a big dummy too because she calls upon the power of marine life to fight Aquaman.......... who can control marine life.  Aquaman then commands her to pick up a gun and blow her head off............ which she does and then Aquamn remarks that she'll always remember him when she looks in the mirror............ Nah, man.......... She dead.

In the end, our heroes get captured by the Atlantean forces and Supergirl crashes in to save the day........ and Aquaman's trident turns into Kryptonite.......... Oh that's right, it's ridiculous and Aquaman tries to play it off that he scanned all the people in the Pre-Flashpoint dome and Supergirl's biology just happened to match some rocks on the ocean floor and just because it might come in handy, Aquaman had his scientists add them to his trident........ Yeah, we're not buying it Aquamn, that's just nonsense.  Well, Mera finally wises up and tells Aquaman what he wants to hear....... you know, I love you, I need you, you're so big, so she can get close to him and simply stab him in the gut.  Aquaman stumbles back and falls on his throne and Mera simply walks away with Supergirl saying how they'll get the others........ I guess except for Vixen, who she's already forgotten and our issue ends with sharks approaching Aquaman's bleeding body.

That's it for this issue of Convergence: Justice League and while the first issue was one of my favorites right from the get go of this event and seriously made me look forward to this issue, the payoff was nowhere to be found.  Just a lot of underwater fighting, strange dialog and a seriously lackluster ending.  One thing I can say that is a positive about this issue is that the art continues to be amazing like it was last issue......... I just wish the story was there as well, which I hate to say because I usually love Frank Tieri's work.  Lousy nonsensical Flashpoint Aquaman, ruining my Justice League issue.

Bits and Pieces:

I was really looking forward to this issue and man am I disappointed.  The story was just a mess and where I expected a bunch of fighting to take place because of the nature of this event, we got our heroes vs. marine life instead of the fight we really wanted to see between the women of the Justice League and Flashpoint Aquaman.  Very anticlimactic and it just seriously left me wanting more.  Thank jeebus that the art was amazing or this might not have any redeeming qualities.

  1. Vixen lived, that is what Mera and Aquaman meant. She's the third figure leaving with Mera and Supergirl.

I was disappointed in the lack of Mera action, she should have been fighting not moping. And Jesse not checking on the baby, that should have been at least a line of dialog. This was definitely the weakest of this week's tie ins. Which is too bad as I am a fan of all these characters.

  2. Frank Tieri showed that he had no idea of the characters he was writing. He butchered Flashpoint Aquaman's character and turned him into a caricature of a super villain.
Hopefully this abysmal two parter will be forgotten alongside the worst DC event since Amazons Attack, the main series of Convergence,

  3. Well this was a disappointing #2 . It had nice build up from the previous then it became apparent that the writer had no clue what he was doing.

    1. Nah, I was wrong in thinking that Vixen died here........... But I would have liked if they would have shown more than her simply dropping because man does she appear dead to me. Mera's line where she said here that "She fought you, she pulled away" was in reference to Vixen not shooting herself directly in the head and I completely read it as something else.

It was ambiguous, to say the least. I saw Jade, Supergirl, and Mera leaving together, but not Vixen. You'd think they would have helped her up, or carried her. At lot of story holes, loose ends, and sloppy storytelling in these tie-ins. I wish I hadn't bought 15 sets, as about 5 were blah, 5 were ok, and only 5 were pretty good. That's about 20 wasted issues out of 30, or $80 wasted. A lot of potential, but sloppy dialogue and storytelling didn't give us the payoff we wanted.

    3. yea, as an Event Convergence was disappointing. I did really like a couple of the books (Superman, The Question, Nightwing/Oracle...), but most were just okay at best.
