For God's Sake!

While Year Four of Injustice has been a bit of a disapointment, the action packed last couple of issues have turned the tide a bit.  After a lot of slow moving setup, the Year of the Gods finally shifted into high gear with cool battles and deaths that fans of Injustice expect.  Last issue ended with Hecules being killed and Shazam changing back into Billy Batson for no reason of his own.  While we didn't see the who and why, I think it was pretty obvious that it was Zeus' doing, but I still couldn't wait to see it with my own eyes.  Now that the issue is here, did I enjoy everything my peepers saw?  Let's find out...

We have to wait a little bit because the issue opens up with Sinestro out cold on a city street.  After some odd dialogue from concerned citizens, he gets up and flies off looking for revenge on the guy who put him there...Superman.

Then it's off to see what really happened to Shazam.  Surprise!  It was Zeus and while his explanation of how he took Shazam's powers away seemed forced, it works for this book so I can go with it.  Explanations aside, Zeus looked like he was going to kill Billy when one hero stepped up and said "no".  Yes, Harley was Billy's knight in black and red and paid the price.  Knowing the roster of the game is a bit of a spoiler for this book, but Harley looks to be on the sidelines for a while.

Zeus is a pretty heavy hitter and pretty much ended the war right there.  Yep, bith sides go away with their tails between their legs and for how much I liked this issue up to this point, it went off the rails immediatley.  Now that Superman's reign has ended (for now), Zeus has made himself the ruler of mankind.  What?!?  He may be the All-Father, but a couple issues ago, he wasn't concerned with anything but getting Hera out of his hair.  Now he is a intollerant world leader?  I don't buy it.

The issue ends with Sinestro telling the United Nations that Superman will save the day and Lex Luthor setting up a secret meeting with Superman and a character who really can't pick which side he wants to be on.  If you have been reading, you will know who I mean.  I have no issue with the meeting, but didn't this issue start with Sinestro wanting to beat the crap out of Superman?  Way to flip-flop Sinestro.

This was my least favorite issue of Injustice yet.  I really don't know how Zeus becoming a dictator does anything for this story.  He's been uninterested throughout Year Four stepping up like this felt off...even if Hercules was killed.  I hope that Brian Buccellato can bring this mess around and turn it into the book I love again, but I am uninterested in what I saw here.

I did like what I saw from Bruno Redondo as usual, but I didn't love it.  His character work was outstanding, but everyone was just standing around.  I know that's more of a script problem, but nothing wowed me because of it.

Bits an Pieces:

I'd love to save judgement for everything that happened this issue, but that's not what we are here to do, right?  This issue sets up a bunch of things and I hate almost every one of them.  Having Zeus end the war and become the dictator of the world felt forced and ridiculous.  The art was good, but not great and it all adds up to my least favorite issue of Injustice yet.

  1. What's “NIE*** WAS WRONG" on the last page? Can't see that through Lex's head. . . I miss Tom Taylor, and have been wondering what exactly is his current project with DC. . .

    1. He doesn't do anything at DC right now...moved over to Marvel. And I too miss him.
Yea, I don't know what the "NIE***" is, but I want to find out!

    2. My friend told me it might be National Intelligence Estimates.
Orz so not going to see Tom Taylor with DC? Frustrating. . .
NANJAN's coloring seems a bit too dark for Bruno's art, anyway, it's ok trying different styles.

    3. It may be Nanjan's colors because I am a huge fan of Bruno...I wish he would get on a big book like Teen titans or Suicide Squad. He does every character they throw at him so well, I'm sure Tom Taylor will be back at some time, or at least i hope.
