The Technosapiens have taken a hike and the world is as it should be again....... except for Cyborg's weird ass evolution of this tech........ that's definitely not how things should be.  Really, though I was trying to pad this opener with nonsense, but it got me thinking...... What is Cyborg anymore?  He's got this tech that covers his body and when he concentrates real hard, he can make himself look completely human again...... and hell, he can even choose what he wants his fashion to be on top of it.  In my mind, it seems that Victor, while retaining what he had mentally that made him human, has now become something that the Lawnmower Man would envy and as we'll see in this issue, the government is keeping an eye on all cybernetics and tech because after the Technosapien war......... Well, there isn't a good reason they shouldn't be........ especially when they have Vic walking around with tech that has abilities we've never seen before and really, just being a threat to national security.  Let's jump into this issue and see what goes down as Cyborg becomes an enemy of the state.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!

Our issue begins with a little background on Silas Stone's baby Mama.......... or if you prefer, Cyborg's mother, Elinore Stone and it seems that we immediately move from the daddy issues that permeated our first story arc and head right into mommy issue territory because we see through Cyborg's eyes at how much he loved his mommy........... damn, Vic's got some issues.  After all that we get to the meat and cheese of the story and it's all about the brave new world our heroes live in after the Technosapien invasion.  Yeah, it seems that after so many people were infected and taken over by that alien threat that the government wants to step in and regulate....... or even ban all cybernetics and I'm right there with them.  Aside from our boy Vic Stone, I'm not about to trust any dirty cyborgs.

While the government goes to STAR Labs to confiscate all their equipment and pretty much blame them for the Technosapien invasion, Cyborg spends the entire issue in the dark because he wants to find out more about his tech's evolution and in order to do that he ignores Sarah Charles' advances once again and spends his time cross referencing STAR Labs' records on cybernetics, nano-tech and the names of him and his parents........... and while he doesn't get any of the information he was looking for, he does activate a computer ghost of his mother........ because that happens all the time.  Seriously though, I'm not complaining because even though we spend the majority of this issue just learning about Cyborg's mother, Cyborg telling his mother about what her little boys been doing the past couple of years and seeing how the government is reacting to people who were affected by the Technosapiens......... well, it's already one of my favorite issues in this series because while it was lacking in action, it did hold my attention the entire time and made me really excited for the story that we're going to get from this setup........ The only thing that I didn't really care for is that Cyborg's mom is a great big dummy.  After she realizes that she's just some ghost, she doesn't understand how this could happen, but says the last thing she remembers is downloading her consciousness into a computer.......... really?  You're this smart ass scientist and you can't put two and two together?

In the end, Cyborg's mother accepts what she is and feels bad for the life that her boy has had to lead since Darkseid invaded, but I think Cyborg's just happy to spend his day not worrying about what's going on around him while he shows his mom all the tricks he can do......... I swear, if there was a swimming pool and a diving board, Cyborg would constantly yell at his mom to watch him dive....... while Elinore would be freaking out to find the cord to pull the plug on herself.  As our issue closes, unknown to Cyborg, the government tells Star Labs and Silas Stone that Cyborg is now property of the government and that he is required to turn himself in for testing or be labeled a threat to national security.

That's it for this issue of Cyborg and I'm really looking forward to Vic pulling an Enemy of The State kind of scenario as he tries to prove his innocence......... I don't really see how he can prove anything though, but from this issue's setup, I'm all on board.  Like I said during the Explain It! section, there isn't any real action to speak of in this book and while the whole thing feels like it's only Senator Champlin telling Star Labs that all of their shit is his now and Cyborg catching his mother up on all the exciting adventures he's had since she died, it's really entertaining and I can't wait to check out the full ramifications of of what the Technosapien invasion has on our main character.  As for the art, one of the big draws for me towards this series when it was announced........ besides for the fact that we were finally getting a Cyborg book was the fact that Ivan Reis was on art, but after looking at this issue, I have to say that I think I like Claude St. Aubin on this series even more because it just seems like a better fit to me and everything looks great....... that includes all the other members of the art team as well....... Top notch stuff here.

Bits and Pieces:

Cyborg starts up a new story arc for this issue and while it's dealing with the ramifications of the previous story arc, it's a great place to jump in.  Yeah, there isn't much action in this issue, but that shouldn't be something that's a deal breaker in buying this because the setup for the story is great and we get some great conversation pieces about how Cyborg is dealing with his new found powers.  Overall, we get great art all the way through and a very interesting plot that I can' t wait to explore.

8/10

  1. I love this series i'm so glad he finally got his own comic. Hopefully they can keep doing well so they don't cancel it.
