Just for the Hell of it Podcast Episode 4: Rap Attack

Reggie finally got his way and here is the result...the Just for the Hell of it Rap Attack podcast. If there was one thing that brought the Weird Science Get Fresh Crew together, it was their love of rap music. Listen as three old white guys wax poetic about a music that has given them such joy (come on, come on) and pain (what else, what else). Find out who bought a bootleg copy of Amerikkka's Most Wanted for his brother, who stopped being a Juggalo because he hates camping and who got his nose broken for listening to Rapper's Delight...and so much more! So get your Gas Face on, grab your Buddy and Bring the Noise! But please be warned...Parental Discretion Iz Advised. Enjoy!

  1. Love me some rap! First rap album was Run-DMC Raising Hell followed by Fat Boys (Are Back) album. Favorite album is Outkast ATLiens with Slick Rick (The Ruler's Back) a close second. Last rap album that I purchased was the best of the Sugar Hill Gang last week. Is Murray Head's One Nigh in Bangkok considered rap??

  2. Love me some Paul's Boutique. Almost every new listen you find new layers and make new associations with different samples. The first listens it can be hard to really get into it because it is so dense. I remember it took me a while before I was really able to put my head around it since it was so dense. Since then I really get a kick out of it and still to this day I find new things such as different layers and new associations with different samples. That album is literally the wine of hip hop, it just gets better with age.

    1. agree completely! I remember when I bought it the day it came out, I listened all the way through and stuck on "Hey Ladies" for a bit and then gradually branched out to the entire album. It really is one of those albums that you need to sit and listen to from beginning to end to really get it and appreciate it.

    2. I love that about 'new-to-you' albums! When you get that album you had heard was really awesome, and you are in love with the single and can't get enough of it, but initially underwhelmed by the rest of the album, but are forced to listen to other songs on the album because you burnt yourself out on the single, and then whoa! you suddenly found two or three other tracks that didn't grab you at first but are now the best songs you have ever heard! Rinse and repeat and before you know it you are over enthusiastically proclaiming to friends family and the guy at the record store that THIS IS THE GREATEST ALBUM EVER...the best front to back, conceptually and musically. A work of genius! I was a punker type kid growing up and thus the albums I fell in the love with were far removed from the rap world, I think it is a universal experience despite genre. And I did have a soft spot for the Beastie Boys after Intergalatic dropped while I was in high school, and I received that anthology that came out back in the late 90's or early 2000's for xmas.

  3. Really not sure how I feel about this episode yet. I more enjoy the random goofy bullshitting of the FMK episode.

But I'm also not a huge fan of more old school rap so that probably makes my opinion invalid while also explaining my feeling for the ep.
