My Favorite Things w/o 5/23/2016 - Just For The Hell Of It Monday

Welcome back to my weekly list of things I love that you should love too for the week of May 23, 2016.

1. BaseballCardVandals: BaseballCardVandals is one of my favorite twitter accounts, 2-3 times a day I guffaw out loud to the images these maniac assholes create. The premise, take old baseball cards (or any sort of trading card really), doctor the fuck out of them, and make something new, hilarious and relevant. It is high art for sure, to look into what is essentially a head shot of the most bland people on the planet, baseball players, and create something so fully insane based on a logo and a name is pure brilliance. Subscribe and watch your day get better by 12%.

2. Dan Carlin: Dan Carlin is a podcaster, I first learned about Dan when I was introduced to his stellar 4 part podcast series on World War 1 that were part of his Hardcore History podcast. The Hardcore History podcast series is a deep dive into any number of historical events, Want to learn about Genghis Khan and dem?  Well there is a 5 part series on those fuckers. The aforementioned World War 1 series hipped me to the brutality of a war that I knew little of other than the dude in Boardwalk Empire lost part of his grill. They are long, they are months apart, and they are brilliant. Dan also has a more frequent current events podcast called Common Sense, in which Dan digs into the headlines and let's you know just how fucked we really are. Feel good, but mandatory listening.

3. Style Wars: Style Wars has been around since 1982 so this shit isn't new, but I went on a bit of a Style Wars binge this weekend and was reminded how amazing this documentary about 1980s NYC subway graffiti actually was. The cast of characters, the quotables (Reggie and I communicate with one another using only quotes from this movie), the nostalgia for a fucked up city and the art. It is proof that, back in the day everything was completely fucked up and completely perfect, and you couldn't pay me enough money to ever want to go back to that nightmare hellscape of a city, fuck all you transplants who pine away for this shit but were to scared to move here before these was a Starbucks in the lobby of the luxury high rise their dad pays for. Either way, Style Wars is a must.

4. Extinction AD: As you may or may not know, I used to write for a music website that I started with some friends called SYFFAL (Shut Your Fucking Face And Listen) and one of the best bands I found while writing for SYFFAL was a crossover thrash outfit named Extinction AD. They sound like the offspring of Slayer and Testament and they kick the ever loving shit out of your life. If you long for the days of quality thrash, I highly recommend jumping on their tip before the rest of the world does. Your friends will think you are hella cool.
