Batman, Nightwing and Detective Comics Join up for DC Comics First Rebirth Crossover

It was only a matter of time, but it looks like that time is Late September/early October.  Time for what?  DC Rebirth's first crossover event, that's what.  I know that a lot of people have a big problem with crossovers (in fact, in our The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of the New 52 podcasts, a bunch of listeners and myself mentioned it as an "ugly"), but I am taking a wait and see approach here.  Plus, it's called “NIGHT OF THE MONSTER MEN!” and that sounds so damn cool!  Props also that Batwoman is involved in a Bat Family Crossover as well!  Here is the official press release...

THE FIRST CROSSOVER OF THE “REBIRTH” ERA BEGINS IN SEPTEMBER WITH “NIGHT OF THE MONSTER MEN!”

Six-Part Crossover Debuts in the Pages of BATMAN, NIGHTWING, DETECTIVE COMICS

Gotham City is the battleground for the first crossover since the beginning of REBIRTH this past June! “Night of the Monster Men” spans the BATMAN, NIGHTWING and DETECTIVE COMICS issues on sale late September and early October, pitting the heroes of Gotham against a mystery-shrouded foe from the Dark Knight’s past!

Night of the Monster Men – September

Part One – BATMAN #7
On sale September 21
Co-Written by Steve Orlando and Tom King
Art by Riley Rossmo
As a huge storm approaches, Batman, Batwoman and Nightwing try and prepare Gotham City for the worst, but nothing can prepare the heroes for the enormous monsters rampaging through the streets! Batman will need all of his allies to unite in order to stop these mad science monsters from tearing Gotham apart!

Part Two – NIGHTWING #5
On sale September 21
Co-Written by Steve Orlando and Tim Seeley
Art by Roge Antonio
The Monster Men are stomping their way through Gotham City! How can the Bat-team take on both these monsters and the storm of the century? And when Nightwing goes behind the scenes to discover where these monsters originated, what he finds lurking in the shadows might be worse than the monsters themselves!

Part Three – DETECTIVE COMICS #941
On sale September 28
Co-Written by Steve Orlando and James Tynion IV
Art by Andy MacDonald
Batman and Batwoman take to the streets in a motorcycle death race against a monster that transforms faster than either of them can keep up! And at Blackgate Prison, something truly terrifying is growing in the prison’s darkest depths… and its eggs are hatching!

Parts Four through Six of "NIGHT OF THE MONSTER MEN" concludes the storyline in the pages of BATMAN #8, NIGHTWING #6 and DETECTIVE COMICS #942, to be solicited next month.

  2. I'm confident of the creative teams involved. Seeley and King, in particular, have a solid track record as collaborators.

What I find curious is Steve Orlando's universal involvement here. My first thought is that it somehow involves Midnighter and/or the God Garden.

    1. I'm hoping that's not the case...They signed him exclusive and I hope it's because they have faith in his Supergirl and other things he can write. Though, Tom King writing Midnighter into Grayson was a huge step in getting the Midnighter book going in the first place.

  3. Absolutely. I wouldn't have made it, even partially, through Midnighter's solo book if Tom King hadn't made me an instant fan of the character with GRAYSON #1.

  4. It was coming eventually. At least it's not a full line crossover. I mean, I already collect two of these books so it's not a big deal for me. Odd that Orlando is on the creative team for this. Thought he would be more involved with Supergirl and a possible crossover with the large number of Superman comics but as long as it's good, I'm not complaining
