DC Comics Best Covers of the Week 08/31/16

Hey everyone! It's your ol' pal Reggie here, and I've been tasked with resurrecting the old "Best Comic Book Covers of The Week" list that used to run regularly here on the site. And what better week to start with than a fifth week, where only five titles were released? Well, it sure made my job easier! Take a look at my picks, and argue about them in the comments! Though if you liked one of the other three covers out this week, I won't hold it against you.

Bombshells Annual #1
by Rachel Dodson
This is a pretty classic design that evokes the very bombshell pinup painting that inspired this series.

 Earth 2: Society Annual #1
by Bruno Redondo
I haven't read this book in a long time, but this image of Batman-2 and Huntress-2 careening down a cityscape could almost get to me check it out. Almost.

Harley Quinn and her Gang of Harleys #5
by Amanda Conner
Normally, I prefer the variant covers by Amanda Conner on Harley Quinn-related products. But in this case, she did both covers! And I think this one is more enticing and bold.

 JLA #9
by Bryan Hitch
The almost monochromatic composition of the cover not only helps to discern the Justice League from the other bodies, but evokes a hopelessness that is really compelling.

JLA #9
by Jim Lee
It's a cool enough cover, and my pick of the week! Funniest part about it is that I believe the variant is from a Batman vs. Superman promotion that ran around the time of the movie...which was in March...that's how fucking late this issue is!

  1. These covers were pretty weak even for a 5th week. Last week's Action Comics Cover with Superman and Doomsday fighting through the title was a classic.

  2. I think the Earth 2 Society takes the cake this week. Not only are Grayson Batman and Huntress falling down through the cityscape, but each of their own Batman mentor stand next teach other looking down on their own prodigy.

  3. Bombshell Annual rocks it. I also love Future Quest #4 which was also released this week.
