DC Comics Best Covers of the Week 09/14/16

Your Mileage May Variant

It's that time again, the second best day of the week: the day after New Comic Book Day! That's when we can take stock of the swell comics we got and assess their aesthetic values. They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but you can judge the cover of a book by its cover! I did that for this week's DC Comics, limiting it to five for no particular reason. Check it out!

All-Star Batman #2 variant
Declan Shalvey
I swore this was the Jock variant when I first saw it. And I mean that as a compliment. Great composition and line work.

Doom Patrol #1 variant
Babs Tarr
This cover has all the fun of being at the video game arcade without the fear of getting mugged! I love the coloring, and it actually does tell you a lot about the issue.

Action Comics #963
Clay Mann, Seth Mann
I love this cover, its perspective and composition is perfect. Looks like something you'd see on Astro City. This is the only non-variant of the week!

Red Hood and the Outlaws #2 variant
Matteo Scalera
How many times have we seen a cover like this, with someone's face reflected in the blade of their attacker? But it still works. Red Hood holding the gun within the reflection really makes the moment.

Wonder Woman #6 variant

Frank Cho
Whew...this tells you all you need to know about Wonder Woman. I feel like I might need a tattoo of this. It's Frank Cho's last issue doing variants for Wonder Woman, and I'm gonna miss him.
