DC Comics Best Covers of the Week 10/26/16

Backpacks Backpacks Come Get Ya Backpacks

You know what's good about comic book covers? They are the great equalizer. You can dislike a singular issue, you can eschew certain characters and series, but you can still judge a comic book cover objectively. It's all about good design sense! There were a slew of great covers this week from DC Comics, but as usual I whittled them down to five...except for this bonus cover to Doctor Fate #14, which can be looked at in conjunction with listening to the attached YouTube video to simulate a heavy LSD trip.

Doctor Fate #14
Brendan McCarthy

 Batman Beyond #1
Bernard Chang and Marcelo Maiolo
I am such a sucker for these types of sci-fi pulp novel covers. The Blade Runner style scene below Batman's waist line is an especially nice touch.

 Teen Titans #1
Jonboy Meyers
Here's a great lesson in comic book cover composition! You could dissect this with a protractor and come up with the illest sine wave. I don't actually know what that means.

Batgirl #4 variant
Francis Manapul
Manapul does it again with a classic cover that is precisely proportioned and dynamic. You barely even notice that it's a picture of Batgirl's crotch flying at your face. Barely.

The Flash #9 variant
Dave Johnson
I really liked the homage to "Flash of Two Worlds!" on the regular cover, but this parody of a New Yorker cover hit me where I live. Which is New York. But more specifically, I like this kind of parody more than the other.

Detective Comics #943 variant
Rafael Albuquerque
Yes, I will purchase several t-shirts and oversized prints of this cover, please e-mail a price list and availability to this website, c/o grubbyquerquefan420

  1. The Flash variant was definitely my winner for this week. I loved that Kid Flash version of the classic Flash of Two Worlds cover but that variant was too pretty to pass up.
