DC Comics Best Covers of the Week 11/9/16

Your Mileage May Variant

This has been one heck of a week in the United States of America, I tell you what! And it's not even over yet. Let's take a quick break and look at the very best DC Comics covers this week. But first: a Public Service Announcement from Hal Jordan not to stick your hand into the garbage disposal to get some lost silverware! It's dangerous.

Also, steer clear of open stoves.
Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #8 variant

Detective Comics #944 variant
Rafael Albuquerque
A classic, clean image with great composition and terrific use of negative space. This could be the cover of the trade collection, if I was in charge of which covers went on whatever trade collections.

Doom Patrol #4 variant
Simon Bisley
There is something delectably gross about this cover, it looks like it's going to muck up your fingers just touching it. And strangely, it does have to do with the content of the book. Not by much, but it does.

Supergirl #3 variant
Bengal
I see a hero being crushed under something big, I can't help but think of the cover to the Amazing Spider-Man #33. This is a lot different, though, and thanks to Bengal's clean lines and flawless composition, it looks fantastic.

New Super-Man #5 variant
Bernard Chang
I love parodies! I don't know that this is a nod to a specific Action Comics issue, but just the idea of it is great. Plus, it uses the terrific Silver Age trope of having word balloons on the cover--but I can't read a word of 'em!

Red Hood & the Outlaws #4 variant
Matteo Scalera & Moreno Dinisio
This is a really good image that says a lot about Bizarro. Sort of reminiscent of the "they all wanted a piece of me, pa" scene from John Byrne's Man of Steel #1. This image is nice and saturated with color and texture, and should be sculpted into a beautiful statue (along with the variant of Doom Patrol #4, above.)

    1. I think I like Bengal drawing Supergirl in general, from the Adventures of Supergirl digital-first book. But I do think it's a pretty dynamic cover, and the composition of the page, with 2/3rds given over to the building and only 1/3rd given over to Kara, is a great choice that really illustrates her struggle!
