I hope that Simon and Jessica's willpower is up to the task to take down Dr. Polaris because from what we saw last issue............ Yeah, it was lacking a bit.  That's right, the good Doctor went and kicked the shit out of our heroes and trapped them in a collection of cars and sank them to the bottom of the river, but maybe they had it coming because even though Dr. Neil Emerson is out of his goddamned mind most of the time, he's using his genius to try and save his brother from a brain tumor........ which according to this comic, before becoming Dr. Polaris, he was on the verge of curing cancer before becoming disgraced by the medical community.......... for some reason.  Let's jump into this issue and see if Dr. Polaris can cure his brother before Simon and Jessica come a callin' and really feel the full force of Dr. Polaris' magnetic personality.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins with Simon freaking the fuck out about being trapped in this bubble of mangled cars as Jessica and him sink further and further into the water.  Yeah, his freak out session isn't really helping much in the willpower department so Simon's kind of useless in this predicament, but thankfully Jessica calms herself and overcomes her fear and saves the day........... which is pretty awesome to see with everything we've seen throughout this series.  So yeah, now that they're free they have to track down Dr. Polaris, who in the meantime had taken his brother from the hospital and with him, our Green Lanterns one lead.

Simon and Jessica eventually get Cyborg's help along with their rings to pinpoint any magnetic disturbances in the area and find where Dr. Polaris is working on his brother and as for Neil Emerson's involvement in this issue............. Well, he's really just living inside his own head, being forced to watch himself being disgraced from the medical community by his alter ego Dr. Polaris, but it isn't all bad because a memory of his brother really picks up his spirits about how his brother Seth was always there for him, which makes him realize that he has to get to work saving Seth's life........... Yeah, that doesn't really work out all too well though because the Dr. Polaris inside of him is nagging to be let out so that he can show those Lantern upstarts that he's no joke and should be taken seriously.

In the end, Simon and Jessica show up to Dr. Polaris' location, only to find a dying Seth and a Doctor Polaris who wants to be taken seriously.......... That doesn't last long though because during his rage out, he notices that his brother starts flat lining, getting his Doctor Polaris side to go and take a powder while Neil freaks the fuck out.

That's it for this issue of Green Lanterns and while there isn't much to this issue for someone who's been reading the Green Lantern books since the New 52, for those of you who have jumped on in Rebirth, you get a pretty decent background into Simon Baz and his brother-in-law Nadir and the similarities that Simon and Doctor Polaris share with their relationship of their family.  The art in this book was great and I loved seeing Jessica step up and save Simon for a change, but besides that though, this was a fast issue to read that really spent most of its time showing us Neil Emerson being disgraced by the medical field for.......... Well, it's not really revealed and all we get are people calling him a liar for his so-called discoveries in a strange mind-scape that just feels weird.  All in all, I'm looking forward to this arc ending so we can get to the most important part of this issue and that's where our other Green Lantern heroes out on Mogo discussed bringing Rami, Simon and Jessica to Sector Zero so they can get their proper training and make sure that a exiled Guardian is secured..... because goddamn, I never expected the Volthoom arc to continue on Mogo!

Bits and Pieces:

Like most issues to this series, this was a fast read that really only gave us a handful of decent moments, while the majority of the issue was padded out with our heroes not really doing anything.  The art looked great though and we got the continued connection that Simon and Dr. Polaris share here, but ultimately, the thing I'm looking forward to is the next arc.

6.5/10
