It's time to get back to the Dark Destiny story and last issue finally got me on the trolley.  Sure, V Ken Marion's art had a lot to do with that, but I also loved Constantine and Deadman/Superman.  I am hoping this issue gives us a little more information about Circe's real plan for the Trinity and how Ra's, the Outlaws and everyone else is involved as well.  Do we find out that and more in this penultimate issue?  Let's find out...

Rob Williams starts out by giving us some background information on Circe.  It wasn't shocking and was a bit more vague than I would have imagined it'd be, but I liked it.  It put Circe into a very selfish light that may be more scary than the usual "taking over the world" we usually get.

We then get back to the story at hand and it's Batman and Wonder Woman against the possessed Superman and when he went all Linda Blair, I laughed out loud!  Of course, V Ken Marion made it all look gory and awesome and the only thing that brought it down a little was Bizarro talking out of continuity.  It didn't bring it down much, however, since I said my peace on the matter two issues ago and am just going to have to go with the flow now.

The issue continues with Diana showing how badass she is and Marion shows that he can draw the shit out of the Batmobile as Batman takes Demon Jason Todd back to the Batcave for some tests.  With Bizarro on the trail and Wonder Woman kicking Deadman/Superman's ass, we head off to Constantine.

Constantine is bleeding out, but that doesn't stop him from figuring out Circe's true plan...to stay alive.  Yep, John knows her prophesies are all bullocks and tells it right to her face.  Pretty ballsy move there!  Meanwhile, we find out that the catatonic Zatanna is not so catatonic and is saving Constantine's life.  Why did he tell Circe, though?!?  It leads to Circe sending Z into a Pandora Pit and bada bing...Demon Zatanna.

It looks like Circe should have started with Zatanna since she just heads off to Gotham and before you can say "Ytikil Tilps", she sends Superman (now free of Deadman) and Wonder Woman back to Circe.  The issue ends with Batman taking down Bizarro and hovering over Jason Todd in the Batcave while Ra's discovers Circe's real intent...a little too late.

I liked this issue enough, but V Ken Marion's art had a lot to do with that.  The story doesn't progress a ton, just lines up all the pieces for the finale.  Again, the art in this issue is great and I love Marion's Wonder Woman so much.  We need more V Ken!!!

Bits and Pieces:

Rob Williams continues the Dark Destiny story and while we learn more about Circe's plan, it's V Ken Marion's art that shines.  This issue isn't going to change anyone's mind either way, but I liked it enough to look forward to next issue.

  1. It was just "Meh" to me. Mainly because I want to see the Outlaws Trinity or Magic Trinity get some shine. One plus for me was seeing Circe turn on Ra' s. The this issue to me was just serviceable, nothing truly special happened this issue so there was nothing special drawn.
