*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

After Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor took the entire last issue to walk through a hangar so that they could tell each other how their week had been, we finally got to the cliffhanger, where Jason just suddenly appeared, rocking a new suit of armor and looking pretty bad ass.  Hopefully here, we'll get to know what happened to old Jason and what he's going to do to help his sister shut Darkseid and Grail down.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins with Jason showing back up and telling us and Wonder Woman right away that he's doesn't know shit about shit about where he's been or what's up with his new armor or who gave it to him.  Pretty much, all he knows is that the armor is important and he's meant to do something down the line........... what that thing is.......... Well, he doesn't know.  After that is all sorted out, Steve Trevor and Wonder Woman are told that Grail has been spotted in Germany and with that, Jason and Diana fly off to take this threat on.

While on the way, Jason tells us about how his powers are actually more powerful now and then goes into when he first met Grail, during his encounter with the Deep Six, which we saw as a cliffhanger a long ass time ago and finally get to see it here......... Really though, it's just here to spell out their names, showcase Jason kicking a little ass and Grail coming out at the last moment and saving Jason, getting him to rock team Darkseid for a bit when he was first introduced.  That's about all we get from that, but once we're in Germany....... Well, more fighting, where Jason is taken out of the big picture while Wonder Woman fights Grail because he's just going after some Parademons and what we get from this is that Darkseid needs the Apokoliptean relics so that he can place them on his temple in the Amazon to open up a doorway to Themyscira.

That's it for this issue of Wonder Woman and while you do get a lot of information out of this issue, the way you get it feels really forced and just out of nowhere and that goes for how the information ends too.   Everything you need to know if forced down your throat until it's not because that's the mystery that we're going to have going forward.  It just felt odd and this issue just played as an exposition dump that didn't have any flow to it at all.  The art was great, but besides that, Wonder Woman just continues to be a title that disappoints and for everything that we're playing with in this series that seems like it should be impossible.

Bits and Pieces:

While the art in this issue is great, that's about the only great thing we're dealing with here because nothing flows in this issue in what feels like a natural way.  Information is given, then withheld and it goes on and on like this back and forth until the issue is over and by the end of it all it just comes off feeling like James Robinson has no love for the story he's writing.

5.3/10

  1. Wonder Woman's rebirth is a drawn-out filler arc. Caught myself reminiscing Brian Azzarello's awesome stories and bawl my eyes out because of what Rucka has done. Robinson at least has some respect for Diana.

    1. I loved Azzarello's run, though I found out later, many did not!
