DC Comics Best Covers of the Week: May 16, 2018

Reggie Bait

They threw some bait to get on your ol' pal Reggie's Best Covers list this week, and it worked! In one instance, at least. Frankly, pickings were somewhat slim. But as I've promised before: if there's more than five covers out that week, I can make a "Best Of" list! And that's the Weird Science DC Comics guarantee!

Batman #47
Tony S. Daniel, Danny Miki and Tomeu Morey
Dialogue balloons on the cover, some incredible foreshortening and a panicked Booster Gold...this cover's got all the elements necessary to turn my head. Of course, you'd expect nothing less from this art team. The lightning above playing off the blue on Booster's suit below is an especially nice touch.

 Green Lanterns #47
Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund
I liked the variant of this issue too, but ultimately I had to go with the regular one. It's super dynamic and the monster looming behind Jessica is awesome. I also love Power Ring and relish any opportunity to get more of his backstory. Pure Reggie bait.

Bombshells United #18
Rachel Dodson and Terry Dodson
This book's covers don't often make the list, but they are usually some quality work. Within the Bombshells style, that is. Personally, I love the classic, World War II-era look. This one evokes a classic photograph from Iwo Jima, which is cool. Though the flag for Planet Earth leaves something to be desired.

Future Quest Presents #10 variant
Kaare Andrews
Ooh...a reverse angle choke on that one dude from the Herculoids! I told you, it doesn't take much to get me lookin'. This is expertly done, though the muted color palette dulls the image. I know it's likely a factor of this character's face plate, but still.

Aquaman #36 variant
Joshua Middleton
Another triumph by Joshua Middleton. This is simply a lovely painting, evoking plenty of emotion and motion, with just enough detail to make everything pop. Plus, this one seems to use the full-page of DC Comics' new variant cover design. This one is certainly suitable for framing!

  1. I don't even like Aquaman and I have to admit that's an awesome cover!
