**NON SPOILERS AND SCORE AT THE BOTTOM**

It's back to the never ending Atlantean revolution...sigh. Frankly, I approach reading this comic like I do my dayjob these days. And that is, to say, with great trepidation and regret. It's just such a slog, folks, and any trace of stakes was drained from this story a long time ago. So let's get to it, shall we, and see what's happening in the nine-thousandth week of this story arc in my review of Aquaman #37, below!

Explain It!

If I was involved in a revolution that took this long, I would have given up already. Doesn't matter what side I'm on. Oppress me or liberate me, I'm so sick and tired of this story line. So now, Corum Rath is fully possessed by that ancient Atlantean demon, and he doesn't even want to rule Atlantis anymore. Now, he wants to destroy it totally! Of course, the demon is using his sugary tongue to convince Corum of this. Luckily, there's a really easy way to destroy Atlantis: blow up that cylindrical headquarters of the Widowhood! It has a name, but I don't know that it's been mentioned for a dozen or more issues.
Vulko, Dolphin, and that other one, the renegade from the Widowhood...Ondine was her name? They're in the catacombs soliciting help from Atlantean ghosts, but they won't go against the kind of Atlantis, no matter how shitty he is. As grody Kadaver and his zombie henchmen converge on the catacombs, all seems lost--just as Aquaman foregoes killing Corum Rath so he can save Murk! So that's like the fifth time he's fucked up the revolution to save one person. Does he not get that the revolution is for the greater good? Just when all hope seems lost, the ghosts from the catacombs plus Vulko and them show up, having dispatched Kadaver off-panel! Great! An actual story development and we don't even get to see it!
I don't even want to keep describing this issue anymore. This whole thing has gone on so long, I don't know nor care about the integral players. Remember when it looked like Dolphin and Arthur might make kissy time? Or how about the whole thing with King Shark? The two of them have been reduced to background quipsters now. Can we just wrap this fucking story up already? Kill Arthur, whatever has to happen. It's beyond tiresome at this point. The art and plotting is expert as usual, and totally wasted on fans of the series that have been buying every issue. This thing is a damned albatross.

Bits and Pieces:

The Atlantean revolution against King Corum Rath continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues and continues.

5.1/10

  1. Heeeeeey! Revolutions are not a walk in the park. American revolution took place between 1765 and 1783. French revolution lasted from 1789 until 1799, Greek independence from 1821 until 1832 and the Chinese communist from 1945 till 1949. Some respect for Atlantis please it's a serious nation not Kosova.

    1. haha fair enough--but you could tell the story of those revolutions in less than a year, surely!
