We're coming down to the end of our Warworld saga, where Superman, after being a gladiator for the amusement of Mongul has put together a band of revolutionaries, and hopefully, with the power that rests at the center of Warworld, our band of heroes will be able to turn the tides on the ruler of this insidious planet. In our previous issue, Superman had found the entrance to that power, which is the remnant of the God of Gods from the First World and now he just has to prove that he's worthy to take the Fire of Olgrum. Let's jump into this issue as Superman takes on a sandworm from Dune. Let's check it out.

For this issue of Action Comics, we continue to see our Superman being super as a man without the full power that we're used to and while this series has pretty much shown that with Superman in the arena and how Clark inspires hope to the slave children of Warworld, it's this issue that really commands your attention in that aspect because now Superman has to prove his worth in battle and in spirit as he tries to achieve the Fire of Olgrum so that he can have the power to fight against Mongul...... and let me tell you this... it's pretty epic and makes you feel good about our Man of Steel. It's just too bad that Mongol refuses to be taken down as easily as he has in the past.

For our Superman Family backup dealing with the Genesis Fragment and the newly returned Conduit...... Well, you get Connor Kent, Supergirl, Steel, Kong Kenan, and Jon Kent all together in one story, which is pretty great, but it's just a fight for the Genesis Fragment and what feels like a throwaway line from Amanda Waller about how this is in continuity, and she's still on Earth-3. While I appreciate the attempt, it still doesn't work all that well, and while it would be hard for anyone to stand up against this group of heroes, it feels weird that we brought Conduit back from the dead and reintroduced him in this story to see him go down so easily. That being said, though, it does add a wrinkle to our story that is at least drama-inducing and a bit interesting.

All in all, the art for both our main story and backup are okay. You see, there's a lot of action in our main story, and the art that we get from our creative team just kind of blends things together to a point where it's hard to decern if Superman's getting hit or if he's hitting someone and you kind of lose the epicness that you should be getting from this issue because of your uncertainty about what just happened. With our backup art, if you're not getting a closeup, you're not really getting a face there. It's still alright though, just not great. What's great, though, is our main Action Comics story because damn, does it make our boy in blue look good, and it gets us one step closer to the final battle between our Man of Steel and Mongul and I can't wait.

Bits and Pieces:

The art is a bit of a mixed bag for me overall, but boy did I enjoy our main Action Comics story because while this story has been all about showing Superman being super without his powers, this issue just cranks that up to eleven but none of it ever feels forced or out of place for what's going on. I just wish that the art and the backup were as strong overall, even though the backup does offer some fan service and some good times.

7.8/10
