Gotham Academy #15 Preview

Written By: Eduardo Medeiros, Rafael Albuquerque, Karl Kerschl, Becky Cloonan, Brenden Fletcher
Art By: Mingjue Helen Chen, Colleen Ann Coover, Eduardo Medeiros, Rafael Albuquerque
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: February 10, 2016

It’s part two of “Gotham Academy Yearbook”! This month we have more stories of the gang’s past and present shenanigans by some of the best names in comics. Detective Club, Scarecrow attacks, and water polo fights are just the beginning for another amazing issue!

The Gotham Academy Clip Show continues this issue. Last one was a mixed bag, which makes sense for an anthology title, and I'd say the good outweighed the bad. Some of the art was really interesting and unusual in mainstream comics. I liked it a lot, and I hope to see more of that in part two!

Earth 2: Society #9 Preview

Written By: Dan Abnett
Art By: Jorge Jimenez
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: February 10, 2016

The Mist rises in New Gotham as Batman takes on this strange new foe! And Hawkgirl finds herself outnumbered as she confronts Fury and the new Amazons.

While it will take some time to wash the bad taste of the previous run of this book out of my fanboy mouth, I do have to say that I trust in Dan Abnett not to do us wrong and salvage what he can out of these characters and this strange new world.  The thing that really gets me excited though is what Hawkgirl and Fury are up to because besides for the previous issue, they've been relatively untouched and because of that I have no opinion about their taste yet or what they feel like in my mouth............ Yeah, this preview just got weird.

Black Canary #8 Preview

Written By: Brenden Fletcher
Art By: Annie Wu, Lee Loughridge
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: February 10, 2016

In recent weeks, a mysterious white ninja has appeared at the edges of Dinah’s life, but her agenda has never been clear—until now! The truth about who she is will open up a whole new world for Dinah…and will require new allies by her side as well!

We're starting with a clean slate, more or less, since most of the mysteries lingering around were cleared up last issue. Besides, last we left Dinah, she was waking up in an unknown location with the ninja in white staring at her. Annie Wu's art pretty much kicked my ass last issue so I will be interested to see what she's got in store for this one!

The Flash #48 Preview

Written by: Van Jensen, Robert Venditti
Art by: Jesús Merino
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 10, 2016

In the aftermath his recent clash with Zoom, The Flash finds himself on the run…from the law! And the task force charged with arresting him is made up of his enemies, The Rogues!

Anytime the Rogues are involved in an issue of The Flash, I am in!  I can't wait to see what Venditti and Jensen have in store as well as seeing how Jesus Merino fits into the series now that he is filling Brett Booth's big shoes.

The Weird Side #6

Story and Art By: Paul B.

It's that time again when all you weirdos out there get to see the awesome work of Paul B. as he pokes fun of everything Weird Science and makes me laugh my ass off.  Seriously, I love everything Paul does, but when he makes fun of Eric's micro penis, I can't get enough!  Don't pay attention to me peeing sitting down though...lies!  All Lies!!!  -Jim

Fanboy Theories: The Original Members of the Justice League Can Beat Superman

God No More

For over 75 years, Superman has been claimed as the most powerful character in the whole DC Universe. With heat vision, super strength, speed, flight, and a whole other mess of powers, he is considered more god than man. Nowadays we have people who just boast about how much Superman can beat anyone and any storylines that had him being beaten is complete garbage...despite some of those people not even reading some of those storylines. I would know...I have a few family members that act like that.
However that all changed in 1986, when writer Frank Miller decided to put his polar opposite, Batman, against him...and won. Since then we have seen many fights against the Man of Steel with his fellow Justice Leaguers. While some can subdue him with a good team up, I think it doesn't need to be that difficult. With the new continuity, the six other heroes that make up the original Justice League roster(Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Cyborg, and yes Aquaman too) has gone through changes to their powers and characters that made me realize that they CAN take on Superman, and THAT is what were going over today. I will only be focusing on the main six that I listed above, going from the Most Likely to beat Superman to the least likely, as with characters like Firestorm and Martian Manhunter will make us sit here all day. So I ask you to sit back, relax, and to you blind Superman followers get ready to hear me out. Lets dive on in...

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Prequel Chapter 3 Featuring Senator Finch Review

A Bunch of Angry Men...and a Lady

Written by: Christos Gage
Art by: Joe Bennett, Sean Parsons, Hi-Fi and Deron Bennett

Release Date: February 3, 2016

Of all these prequel chapters, I am guessing that this is the one with the least hype.  While Holly Hunter's Senator Finch is sure to play a big role in the movie, I really don't need to know much about her before going to the theater.  However, it kind of brings to light what these prequel chapters are all about.  They are not going to drop any major twists, but instead are mood setters for the movie.  While reading them, you get the idea of the tone of the movie, at least at the beginning.  When you go into it with that in mind, this chapter may be the best one.  Let me explain...

Supergirl Season 1 Episode 13 "For the Girl Who Has Everything" Review and *SPOILERS*

Soldiering On

Director: Dermont Downs
Writers: Story by Andrew Kreisberg,

Teleplay by Ted Sullivan and Derek Simon
First Aired: February 8, 2016

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Last week, Supergirl went up against one of the most iconic Super-family villain, Bizarro (though best commenter Scott and I agree it should have been Bizarra)! While the tragedy of Bizarro and Supergirl's compassion brought out the show's best qualities, the worst quality was brought out too by the completely unnecessary love shape (because it keeps adding and subtracting new interests!). The episode was decent, but one of the most amazing things occurred at the end of the episode. A plant was left for Kara...one of DC's most infamous plants....the center to one of the most famous stories in the Superman Mythos...THE BLACK MERCY! Now it has latched onto the Girl of Steel and has already begun to infest the host. How will the DEO save her?! Lets find out...

Adventures of Supergirl Chapter #2 Review and *SPOILERS*

Sisters Gonna Work It Out

Written By: Sterling Gates
Art By: Bengal
Letters By: Saida Temofonte
Digital Price: $0.99
Release Date: February 8, 2016

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

One thing comic books have over television is that they aren’t constantly emitting low-level radiation that slowly deteriorates your eyes and skin. Also, they’re a lot less noisy. So maybe you’ve stayed away from the prime-time television show Supergirl on CBS because it’s little more than carefully-timed product placement that’s broadcast via flickering light box and incessant, high-pitched whine to our already overstimulated frontal cortices. Well, have I got a solution for you! Sterling Gates and Bengal are writing the new Supergirl digital comic, based on the CBS show, with a new chapter coming every other Monday! They’re guaranteed not to brainwash you into drinking urine-colored soft drinks or your money back! And just how much money are we talking about here? Why, it’s only a buck! So if you’re not reading Supergirl by Gates and Bengal, then I can only assume you either hate all superheroes, you hate girls, or you are so bad with your money that you don’t really even understand what a dollar is, like you use them to scribble notes on and blow your nose into and throw away a couple dozen every Spring cleaning. If you don’t buy these digital Supergirl chapters, then you might as well give your money to area birds to use for their nests because you clearly don’t understand its value at all. Need more convincing? Read on for my review of chapter two!

We’re all on the edges of our seats, gripping our armrests and gritting our teeth in anticipation of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Dr. Pepper revels in it. They want to exploit our compulsive need to know by releasing digital chapters to a prequel comic, each chapter focusing on one of the core characters. Thankfully, the internet is a populist haven for teasers and spoilers, and every chapter has been released online for public consumption. And you know what means, dear readers: they’ve also been released for critique and nit-picking! I dove into the world of Zack Snyder’s Lois Lane in this second chapter to this promotional comic, and came up for air to write this review!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Prequel Chapter 1 Featuring Batman Review

A Darker Knight

Cover Price: Free with purchase of 20 oz. Dr. Pepper® or Diet Dr. Pepper or “Doc” Pepper’s Slam BLAST!!® or Ms. Pepper’s Cherries Jubilee or Ms. Pepper’s Cherries Jubilee BLAST!!

I can't wait for Batman v Superman.  I know that doesn't sound like a mind bending statement, but for me to actually get my butt up and go to the movies takes a whole lot and I will be seeing this movie in the theater.  I felt the same way for Star War: The Force Awakens, but there was one difference.  I didn't want to know anything about it before going in, just like the little eight year old Jim Werner who saw Episode 4 so many years ago.  I don't feel that way about Batman v Superman.  I want all the information I can get before March 25 and that includes these prequel comics.  Dr. Pepper threw together a pretty kick ass promotion where you get codes with certain 20 oz bottles of Dr. Pepper products that unlock each chapter.  When I heard about this, I thought these would be "chapters", but they are actually the length and quality of any Digital First book that DC Comics regularly releases. The first chapter features Batman and that's where we will start.  Makes sense, right?  Well, here goes...

Logan’s Run Film Review and *SPOILERS* - Just For the Hell Of It Mondays

There Is No Sanctuary

Directed By: Michael Anderson
Screenplay By: David Zelag Goodman
Starring: Michael York, Richard Jordan, Jenny Agutter
Release Date: June 23, 1976

*Non-Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Last week, I reviewed the novel Logan’s Run by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. Of course, I was just wasting your damned time because everyone knows that film adaptations of novels render the original works irrelevant. Besides, could you have imagined Logan with the sweet, feathered hair of Michael York simply from reading a novel? No, it takes a visionary filmmaker to adequately tell the story of Logan’s actual and metaphysical Run, and unfortunately we got a merely capable one. So let’s head on back to the dystopian world of Logan’s Run, and then fast-forward a hundred and fifty years or so for some reason, to the year 2274 when things are prone to get…sexy. Read on, my holographic concubines!

1980s Mormon PSA Commercials – Saturday Morning Weirdness

Wouldn't Ya Like to Be a Mormon, Too?

In 1977, the Mormon “sex in chains” case dominated tabloid headlines throughout the UK. Its details could not be more salacious: in the town of Ewell, Surrey, pristine and wide-eyed Mormon missionary Kirk Anderson was abducted by buxom and comely (former Miss Wyoming World) Joyce McKinney. She and an accomplice drove to a cabin in Devon, where Kirk was chained to a bed and raped by Ms. McKinney over the course of a few days. The public was enthralled, not just by the sexy time details of a man being raped by a woman—not actually a crime in England at the time—but because of the sneak peek this case offered into the mysterious world of the reclusive Mormons. It was from this media event that many rumors about “Mormon underwear” stem. It was going to be tough to put a positive spin on this one.

Top 5 Saturday Morning Cartoons - Saturday Morning Weirdness

One of the things that I miss the most about my childhood is getting up early on a Saturday morning, pouring about six bowls of cereal and watching my cartoons.  It was the best time of the week for me and while my parents slept, the house and the TV were all mine.  I would watch anything and everything and while there were plenty of stinkers (I'm looking at you, Rubik, the Amazing Cube), there were more than enough great shows to keep me enthralled.  My only rule for the list is that I had to have watched them when they originally aired.  There are a bunch of reasons why these shows are in my Top 5, but in the end, these were the shows that made me happy as a kid and still hold a place in my heart.  So, here are my picks for Top 5 Saturday Morning Cartoons.
