Who says comics have to be about capes and superpowers and magic and crazy shit? This series has been filled with bloody deaths and asshole characters, but it’s more than that. There is a really good story that just so happens to involve those bloody deaths and asshole characters. Combine that with some great art you’ve got yourself a winner there, Vertigo.
After another flashback showing the bond between Cain and Abel, we pick up the present day story right where the last issue left off. Abel may have chosen to go after Cain instead of saving Kira, but she’s a smart gal and managed to use the other dead bodies to shield herself from the blast. This time, Abel shows that he’s not a total piece of shit and lets Cain go so he can check on Kira.
Bob, Marty, and Angie use some high-tech drones to track Cain through a city without power and watch him brutally murder four police officers. Abel and Kira are making there way towards them, but they’re stopped by another one of the Black Forrest goons. This one is a massive guy in a mask that gets the upper hand on Abel and lifts him up by the throat.
This time, it’s Kira saving Abel. She shoots a gas tank, engulfing the two in flames, before shooting the big guy in the head in time for Abel to get away from the fire. They are about to take off after Cain again, but even get started when a SWAT team surrounds them and lists them as the murderers.
Justin Jordan is turning out to be a great writer and Ibrahim Moustafa’s art goes perfectly with this story. I would love to see them get their shot at a book in the DCU.
Bits and Pieces:
Justin Jordan and Ibrahim Moustafa have come together to create a comic book that looks great and focuses on a character that is clearly messed up, but shows just enough of a good side to make you root for him. I wish I enjoyed reading every comic as much as I enjoy this one.

In recent weeks, I have begun to notice that after work I want not silence, but light activity - to distract myself, but not to get even more tired. ReplyDeleteI totally get what you mean — not every comic needs superheroes or magic to be gripping. I actually found myself needing a break after reading some intense storylines, so I tried vincispin bonus, which offers special bonuses for players from Spain. It was a nice way to relax and unwind for a bit while still enjoying some strategy and excitement. Honestly, it made switching off from dark or intense comics much easier and even a little fun.
