Resolution Denied

Alright, the sixth issue of Batman Eternal is here and by now we should be getting some resolution.  Jim Gordon in Jail, The Roman's mounting War with the Penguin, Spoiler's crazy Family, Nanobots...give me something here.  Nope.  This issue we get Batwing.

Ray Fawkes takes over this week and it starts off great.  Granted, I'm a huge Batwing and Gentleman Ghost fan and this issue starts with...I'm sure you can guess.  Luke Fox gets his introduction to the ghostly part of Gotham and I can only hope it carries on to his own book.  It's great, if not too quick.  However, with Ray Fawkes writing you know there will be more mystical elements to follow.

Black Out!

Thank fucking god or what ever Scottish Terrier you believe in that First Contact is over, and we can get on with our Worlds' Finest lives.  That story arc should of been tits, but made little to no sense for me.  One good thing is that Huntress and Power Girl know that there's a way to get back home, and it looks like we may be getting them in the Earth 2 roster sometime soon.  So let's see what our duo is up to this month while they try to click their heels together.

Top 5 Fridays: Most Disappointing Things In DC Movies

This week Zack Snyder gave us something to get our nerd boners hard when he let the first picture of Ben Affleck as Batman and the Batmobile drop.  Now I've seen throughout the interwebs people both praising and damning this new live action look for Batman, but I personally dig it and am totally down with a Dark Knight Returns looking Batfleck.  So with all the people bitching and stroking to this new pic, it made me think about this week's Top 5 list, and since I lean towards the negative we'll take a look at my own personal disappointments in comic book cinema.  Let's take a look at Top 5 Most Disappointing Things In DC Movies.  Boosh!

Did You Hear the One About Batman?

Charles Soule has made Superman/Wonder Woman a great book by not only showing the power couple's growing relationship, but also making it fit perfectly in each character's New 52 world.  These are the exact reasons why this second chapter (or third if you include Doomed #1...I hate chapter numbers) is such a success.

Without spoiling everything, the Superman/Doomsday fight changed Clark.  He is not the good guy he usually is.  While his appearance is a bit off (to say the least), this new attitude is so shocking because it's still Clark.  It's like he's a teenage trouble maker on Jerry Springer, "He does what he wants".  He's rude, sexed up like Color me Badd and makes fun of Batman.  Yea, he went there.  It's actually pretty funny.

Turn and Face the Strange

Superman is right where we left him after Doomed #1.  A crater in Smallville.  Doomsday is dead, but the Man of Steel is dreaming.  Actually, he's having nightmares.  Nightmares of him killing everyone...as Doomsday.  Pretty intense.  When he wakes up, Lana Lang and Lois Lane are there, but are quickly joined by the Justice League and Wonder Woman.  Greg Pak shows that Lana still has feelings for Clark as Wonder Woman flies Superman away.  It's clear to Lana that Clark is now Superman.  It's such a great scene for anyone whose been reading Greg Pak's Action Comics.  This also makes up for the awkward scenes of the Justice League in Doomed. Pak makes it all seem so natural.

Team Building Exercise

So we got the beginning of a team going on in the last issue of Justice League United, and so far it's pretty badass.  Adam Strange unites this team to uncover what happened to his girlfriend Alanna during their study of what appeared to be a alien grave.  But the team discovers that aliens are using the area as a secret base to create a hybrid species of alien races.  So to take care of the meddlesome new team, the aliens unleash a giant hybrid reject on their asses.  Out by Thanagar we find out that the new Lobo is working for the geneticist mastermind Byth , and has a bunch of prisoners including Adam Strange's girlfriend Alanna, and one of my favorites Hawkman.  Things get heated between Lobo and Hawkman, and the new team has that gigantic monster to deal with so this should be a good time.  Let's check it out.

Going Through the Motions

This isn't your Granddaddy's Doomsday.  Nope, the beast that once killed Superman has evolved into a behemoth of death.  He has been wreaking havoc across the Super Titles for a month, but now it's time for the main event.  Superman vs Doomsday.  It's finally here, but is it any good?

Doomsday is busy ripping apart Honeymoon Island and Superman shows up...late.  Three Thousand two hundred and twenty people are already dead.  We know this because Superman has done the math.  This sums up what I don't like about this issue.  Telling not showing.

Who Sucks More?

When last we left our slightly more tolerable Superboy, he had come back to our present time to cause some trouble.  Once here he tried to takeout Guardian; Star Labs head of security, but was to weak to do anything but look pathetic.  In the end Jon Lane Kent was taken in by Star Labs, and even though they know that he's not Kon, they want to help cure him of his genetic disorder that's killing him.  Oh and it seems that Kon is haunting this second rate Superboy, weird right?  Man I hope STAR Labs understands what they're getting themselves into.  Let's check it out.

Even At A Funeral, Everybody's A Dick In The Future

Last week we saw Batman Beyond come back in time to stop Brother Eye only to find out that he's five years ahead of where he should be, so I guess it's time for a new plan.  We saw Grifter murder a family but it's cool, they were Daemonites.  In the end we found out that Ronnie Raymond and Jason Rusch's relationship is strained, and due to Ronnie's apathy towards being a super hero the two were late to a meeting with Green Arrow only to find his lab destroyed, and Ollie dead.  So let's see if we can lay on the guilt a little more at Ollie's funeral.  I bet we can.

Suck On My Will Power!

Alright Uprising is here, and it's time for the battle to begin.  Leading up to this we've seen the Durlan, The Khund, and Nol-Anj and the outer Clanns joining forces to take out their mutual enemy; The Green Lantern Corps.  Up to this point it seems that some of the Durlans had infiltrated Mogo, and took the forms of some Corps members.  But it's okay because it doesn't seem that the Durlans are able to use the Green Lanterns rings, like their original wearers.  So it's time to meet the enemy head on in this first part to a six issue story, so let's go check it out.

Holy Shit It's A Detective Story....Weird.

Last time we stepped into the world of Detective Comics, it was being created by the brilliant team of
Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato.  In the last issue we saw that the street drug Icarus had made it's way into Gotham, and Bruce's new business partner Elena Aguila was made an example of when we saw her running on fire to the front door of Wayne Manor.  So let's jump back into this story of speedster drugs, mobsters, and dudes that like to feed their enemies to giant squids.

Road to War

Okay, I'm a huge fan of Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo's Injustice.  In fact, I gave it my 2013 Book of the Year Award.  I believe that Year One of the series proved two things to DC and it's fans.  If done right, a video game adaptation can be awesome and digital first comics deserve attention.  It certainly got mine.

Year Two continued the story, but is a very different book.  Where Year One was so eager to please with shocks and twists, Year Two has settled into a slow burn story that is just as much about character development then crazy deaths.  Granted, Tom Taylor has used the "I don't know what the hell will happen next" shadow of Year One to build tension in this book to a fever pitch, but the strong characterizations only make it better.  It's not a question of if the shoe will drop, but when.  Well, the shoe just dropped.

First Look at Ben Affleck as Batman and The Batmobile

Now I don't know if Ben Affleck will be any good in the role of our savior Batman, but this picture of what he'll look like has taken my stress level down a bit.  I really dig what we can see of the new Batmobile, and when Zack Snyder said he'd be an older grittier Batman it doesn't look like he was lying.  Just looking at this Batman with the short ears, and large symbol on his chest it looks a lot like The Dark Knight Returns Batman.  While that seems cool as hell, it does lead to another problem I have with DC movies.  If this is Dark Knight Batman, and we're dealing with a Superman that just broke someone's neck, then what I get out of this is, this movie will be devoid of all humor.  But I'll wait and see, I have high hopes being a fan of all things DC.  So far making my opinion based off a single picture to a movie that will come out in two years that we don't know the plot for yet......   I like it.

For my second Doomed Preppers, I decided to go a little goofy with All Star Superman #4.  The reason I chose this was two fold.  I love the fun story (especially Jimmy) and I predict that Doomed will involve Superman being infected by a Doomsday Virus.  We'll have to wait and see if I'm correct, but for now, on with the review.

Jimmy is a very popular guy.  Gals want to be with him, Guys want to be him and Guys also want to be with him.  Perry White says says so.  Jimmy's "For a Day" column has been a boon for the newspaper and also has caught the eye of PROJECT head Mr. Q.  He asks Jimmy to head PROJECT "for a day" while him and his group take care of intergalactic business.  What could go wrong?  Well, there is that Gypsy Curse...

Superman takes the woman he saved from the burning building last episode to the hospital.  Then he gets creepy and hangs out as Clark Kent trying to get the scoop.  Of course, it's never a dull day when the Man of Steel is involved.
