I don't know what happened to my favorite book.  For so long, Smallville has been the highlight of my Friday (I know how bad
that sounds), but what I've been reading the past few weeks just seems off.  I don't know if it has anything to do with the book ending after this arc or something more dark and nefarious, but Bryan Q. Miller hasn't been on his game. Suddenly, a book built on great characters has a bunch of out of character moments and a writer who has given us so many great stories seems to be mailing it in.  I still have faith in Miller to return to form and give fans an awesome conclusion to this book, but unfortunately, that comeback doesn't start this week.

Some more badassery from Five Years From Now dealing with Frankenstein, Amethyst, Hawkman, Black Adam and Ray Palmer vs. the forces of Brainiac.  Don't get your self hyped too much though because even as cool as that is, the issue will probably just bring you down by dealing with Tim Drake stalking his ex-girlfriend and her complaining that he didn't tell her about his past.......AGAIN.  Getting kind of sick of that nonsense.  But like always I'm excited to read the next chapter of this series.  If the cover is any indication we'll also get to see Superman put the smack down on the Robot Brainiac Monster and I'm all for that.

I really don't know what to think about this issue.  It's Grant Morrison and it's probably going to be weird as hell and be a pain in the ass to review and someone is going to say somewhere how Morrison has so many layers.  Someone is always saying that.  Seriously though I have no idea what to think about a bunch of self centered superheroes.  Is it going to be like a whole planet of Booster Gold's?  Because while I love Booster, I think a bunch of Boosters would just get annoying as hell.  Oh well we'll see what we get soon enough and I'm always hoping for the best.

I have not been too keen on the Secret Origin book so far, but this brief preview has me excited for the Wonder Woman story this month.  It doesn't hurt that it is one of the last we'll get from Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang and that it has such a great silver age retro look by Goran Sudzuka.  Plus, it's downright hilarious. If that's not enough, we get a Deadman story by J.M. DeMatteis and Cullen Bunn Sinsestro origin.  I'm already jealous that Eric gets to review this one.

Top 5 Fridays: Top 5 Actors We Want To Play DC Characters

For this week's Top 5 Friday, I figured we talk about the big buzz on the interwebs; that's right the upcoming DC Films that were announced this week.  In case you've been under a rock all week, we've found out that a slew of DC movies have been announced and I have been transported to some sort of Nirvana here as I patiently wait for all my favorite superheroes to hit the big screen.  Seriously I think I might have died and since I wasn't a complete asshole my entire life I was granted the reward of having these films get made, because honestly I wasn't sure it was ever going to happen.  So we've got Batman V. Superman and Suicide Squad in 2016, Wonder Woman and Justice League in 2017, The Flash and Aquaman in 2018, Shazam and Justice League 2 in 2019 and Cyborg and Green Lantern in 2020.  These next five years might be the best five years of my life and I'm not ashamed to say that the prospect of getting my superheroes on the big screen is way better than anything that I may have considered happiness to this point in my entire life.......... Okay I'm a little ashamed.  But with all these big announcements we have the problem of casting the flicks and people like me either bitching or praising the choices made for people to play my favorite characters.  So here I figure we'll look at what Jim and I consider the best choices for a few characters and even say "fuck you" to some of the choices already made and show you our choices instead.  So let's check out the Top 5 Actors We Want To Play DC Characters.

Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman #10 Review

Sensation Comics has been such a great title for Wonder Woman fans and the fun continues this week.  I'm a huge fan of Rob Williams (if you haven't read his recent The Royals: Masters of War series, do so now!) so when I saw he was writing this week's one-shot, I knew I'd like it.  That's why I love this book.  Every week or so a new creative team gets a shot at telling their Wonder Woman story and they range from serious character studies to fun team-ups and everything in between.  This week may be the best Byth story I've read in a long time and how can you top that?

First let me say, both the regular cover and the monster variant look incredible.  Also, how dare a man ruin a perfectly good bowl of cereal.  I don't care if the guy happens to be his electrical blue future self, that's just a complete waste.  I could see if it was Kix, but if it was Rice Krispies Treats or Oops! All Berries then I can see why they are fighting to the death.  Cereal destruction aside, I can't wait for this issue and my mind is already reeling thinking how everything will change if (or when?) the Future Flash dies.  Time travel always messes with my brain.

On further review, it looks like Barry is eating Frosted Flakes...a classic for sure, but not one of my personal favorites.

Earth 2: World's End #3 Preview

Now while the prospect of having a Doctor Fate and Hawkgirl heavy issue tickles me to the point of almost being obscene, these preview pages on the other hand show everything but what this solicit promises.  I personally love Hawkgirl and Fate and would love to see a book featuring them more and when I see that a quarter of the book is already dedicated to every other character, I start to get worried.  I understand that solicits for the most part are bullshit, but man did I get happy reading that and then immediately had that happiness dashed by not seeing a single panel featuring these two.  Now don't get me wrong, these pages look awesome and it's insane to think that this book would just leave us on the cliffhanger that this week's issue ended on and not follow up on it the next issue.  Mostly I think I'm in this book to see Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl and Doctor Fate shine and those are the characters being left behind it seems.  Still excited, but we'll see what next week's issue brings.

I've been a fan of Jeff Parker's run and this issue looks like a good jumping on point for anyone who has been on the fence.  It may just be me, but the cover looks like an old Sega Genesis case (which I think is awesome) and the aftermath of the Triton Base catastrophe looks interesting.  I still don't like Dr. Shin, but Arthur's "Air Force One" looks incredible.

...Light the Corners of My Mind

If you haven't been reading the Clean Slate story, let me catch you up.  Kaiyo Chaosbringer and Lord Satanus are playing a fun little game called, "Let's erase Batman and Superman's memories".  I'm still not sure why, but they seem to be having a good enough time with it.  Batman and Superman...not so much.  They are trying to figure out what to do while those around them either help or hinder the process. We have Catwoman getting all "Memento" with Superman and Batman watching people die as he struggles to be more like "him".  The concept may sound intriguing, but the reality has been far from good.  Unfortunately, that trend continues this issue.

Domo Arigato Ms. Roboto

Last issue of Teen Titans I got the impression that I really wasn't liking the new direction.  Yeah that's as much of an opinion that I could get out of my sideways brain.  I got the impression.  But enough about me, the second issue consisted of Bunker being pissed about hate mongers and then blowing off some steam with Beast Boy by putting out a fire and destroying the leader of the terrorists from the first issue who happens to be a robot girl named Algorithm.  Red Robin was doing his detective thing trying to get to the bottom of the terrorist group and Raven went and watched a concert with a Raven themed band.  Not much Wonder Girl going on with the exception that it seems Cassie has some groupies just like Raven, only Wonder Girl's consist of  a group of girls that go around dressed like the hero and beat the hell out of would be criminals with baseball bats.  So yeah, not the best fan club.  In the end we discovered that Algorithm wasn't dead and recreated herself with the help of the man pulling her strings: Manchester Black who has schemes to have STAR labs moved to another location and there for set up the exploding bus that was headed for the lab in the first issue.  Now all this sounds alright, the problem I had is that the Titans don't seem to be working as a team and that's a crucial part of the book for me.  Okay let's get to this month's issue.

War!

Well last week I had a hell of a time trying to convey the story of Earth 2: World's End and I don't know if it was because I wasn't feeling well and my brain went temporarily sideways or if the book was just so jam packed with knowledge of the past, present and bits of secret past knowledge, which seems like it could haunt this world's future.  Anyway what I took away from last week's issue is that the war has just started on Earth 2 and our heroes are now facing a new threat from Apokolips in the form of the Four Furies.  While a Fury emerged from a different fire pit across the world, the one our heroes must deal with at the moment goes by the handle War and with a name like that I can only hope that our heroes will come out on top.  Let's check out what World's End has in store for us this week and maybe gleam what this series will give us in the future.

In Space Nobody Can Hear Brainiac Robots Coming For Dat Ass!

Okay for our quick recap this week to get you caught up, let me tell you about Frankenstein, Amethyst and Hawkman who were up until recently held captive by Brainiac until they were rescued by Ray Palmer and Black Adam.  Now all they have to do is escape.  Tim Drake under the assumed name Cal Corcoran was recently dumped by his girlfriend after she learned that he was keeping his life before they met, you know the whole Red Robin thing, a secret.  After what looked like him stalking her while she jogged, Tim learned that she now has a coffee date with Ronnie Raymond.  Since we brought up the one half of Firestorm, we might as well bring up the other half.  Jason Rusch now with a lot of free time since Ronnie and his falling out, has been working on a teleportation machine with his boss Dr. Yamazake and off in Africa Constantine was tracking down an ancient Brainiac Robot Monster and lucky for him, he found the long missing Superman instead.  After a bit of "Come on, You're Superman" pep talk, Superman decided to go after the monster and hopefully put an end to the Robot Monster's massacre walkabout.  That's about all you need to know going in, so let's check out what Five Years From Now has in store for us this week.

Batwoman is one of my favorite books.  I enjoy it for what it is, a street level adventure that is equal parts dealing with the everyday struggles of life and balancing that with being a superhero.  While I have enjoyed Marc Andreyko's run (dare I say as much as J.H. Williams'), the last couple issues have turned the book upside down, on it's side and upside down again.  I haven't agreed with everything he's done, but it is Andreyko's book and I'm glad to see him take it from Williams' shadow and into his own territory.  Now that Futures End is over (thank God), we can get back to our stories which means Batwoman in...Space?

Filler Up

I usually don't review Supergirl, but like last issue, this is part of the Doomed story...sort of.  It says so on the cover, but while it does tie-in a bit to the last issue, this is more of a Supergirl/Red Hood one-shot than anything else.  Usually I'd be okay with that since I love both Kara and Jason Todd, but what we get here just isn't that good.
