After possibly the only issue of all of Injustice and Injustice 2 that I’d say was entirely skippable, I’m happy to jump into this issue and get back on to progressing the story. Kara is now in the presence of Black Adam and up to date on at least Adam’s take on the situation. Left with a tenuous plan to move forward it seems we now move on to a different point of the story in the start of a new direction. Find out what I think of the issue after the jump.

Well, this is good. After two issues of slow burn and a third issue that was much more promising, it feels like this series is finally hitting its stride. Last issue, if you remember, ended with Shadow being invited to play checkers with a retired slaughterhouse worker who was really the Slavic god Czernobog. As issue endings go, it’s not exactly rip-roaring stuff, but if you’ve read enough fantasy – or folklore, to be fair – you won’t be at all surprised to find that wagers are made very early on in this game and that things turn out both well and badly for our main character. Nor is the game the only interesting thing to happen this issue. Throw in Colleen ‘A Distant Soil’ Doran into the mix for this issue’s back-up and you’ve got a pretty mouth-watering proposition. Let’s taste and see what our creators have lined up for us…

It feels comic readers are on board or avoid Bendis’ books like the plague. I’m on the fence in recent years. This series has been a slow burn with exciting moments which seem to lead nowhere. I continue investing time into Infamous Iron Doom in hopes these vision quest, teases of Ultimate Reed Richard’s all have a point to make. Depending on how the series and post-Marvel Legacy plays will make my decision to take a break from Bendis' writing. Will the series continue to be leading to a long con?

Secret Empire's Dirty Secret: The Main Event Book is Pointless

Here we go, yet again, with another issue of Secret Empire, as the fifth one dropped this week. While I started off this story being somewhat of a sucker for the hype to yet another Marvel event, I’ve quickly grown disillusioned with this entire story concept rather quickly. I have never been the biggest Captain America fan , so I don’t come into this with anger and hate because the internet told me to, instead the release schedule and pacing of this series has beat me down to the point I don’t know I’ll ever recover. With that precursor established, let’s see if issue five gives me a reason to keep reading this tire fire, or if Ill skip the next couple going forward, review wise, and just come back for the ending to let you know how this all wraps up.

Depending on how things turn out with this limited series, it might well be that this issue is seen as a real step up in both impetus and overall quality. It might be that this issue turns out to have significant implications for both Batman and The Shadow for some time to come. At this point, I have no way of knowing for sure. What I do know is that I enjoyed this issue quite a bit more than I did the previous two. Allow me to explain.

I have found the bane of my existence and its name is Underwinter. I have made this series my cross to bear regardless of how much I’ve disliked it. I just keep waiting for something to click that suddenly make me look at it differently, for it to have some kind of effect on me. We left off from the last issue with the group starting to be more outwardly effected by the creature they play for, will this issue show those effects take a more meaningful turn? Will we learn more about the characters to make us actually care? I really hope so. Find out, along with me, after the jump.

Secret Weapons has been on my radar for awhile now. When the news was released Arrival screenwriter was joining Valiant, I was pretty jazzed. Arrival was one of my favorite films of last year, which spiked my hype around this book even more. This should be a great jumping on point, introducing new characters and a new story in the Valiant mythos. The train is leaving folks, let’s get into it.
