Wonder Woman #795 escalates the Olympian Gods' attempted domination of Earth as Yara Flor arrives to lend a hand against Eros. The heat gets turned up when a Titan-ic adversary joins the fray.

Is It Good?

Wonder Woman #795 isn't terrible. Technically, it's not bad. Not great, but not bad.

When last we left Wonder Woman and her friends, they battled milk gods (yes, it's true, and it's as stupid as it sounds) and won the day... until the Olympian Gods decided to make a mass appearance to subjugate the humans of Earth and restore the gods' power by restoring human belief in them through fear and destruction. Think of this portrayal of the gods as similar in structure to the far superior American Gods.

Now, Wonder Woman and Yara Flor battle a giant-sized Eros while Steve Trevor and Siggy charge off to fight the original Titan, Hyperion.

Wonder Woman #795 is very action-focused, so you get plenty of punch for your reading pleasure. A significant amount of time is spent in a back-and-forth bickering between Eros and Yara Flor over their falling out in the Yara Flow series (a series nobody bought or read and a series that made almost no sense). Still, at least they punch each other while they bicker.

Simultaneously, a still-injured Steve Trevor drives a motorcycle in a suicide run against Hyperion in the hopes Siggy can do enough damage to the Titan to kill it or at least slow it down. To be blunt, Steve and Siggy have no plan, so their attack feels pointless and foolish. Cloonan and Conrad put this subplot to give the other characters something to do, which is odd when you consider Wonder Woman is far less present in her own book than Yara Flor. If Cloonan and Conrad needed to give characters something important to do, give them something that makes sense, and don't treat them like meathead men who charge in without thinking.

Despite the flaws, this is still one of the better issues in the Cloonan/Conrad run. It's not great, but not terrible.

Bits and Pieces:

Wonder Woman #795 steps up the action during a full-on assault by the Olympian gods on Earth. The motivation for the attack makes sense, and the action is entertaining, but Wonder Woman is treated like a sidekick in her own title, and the male characters are treated like mindless cannon fodder.
