The Terrifics #29 Review

It's Raining Terrifics

Writer: Gene Luen Yang
Artist: Max Raynor, Protobunker, and Tom Napolitano
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 5, 2020

It's a shame that this book has to end.  I know the sales aren't high, but Gene Luen Yang is finally getting to tell his own story, and it's pretty damn good! He is throwing a ton of cool characters in the mix, developing a mystery, and having a fun time.  That last part is why I am digging what he is giving readers and why I decided to review this issue.  Besides being fun, is it any good?  Let's find out...

Things have not been going great for the Terrifics.  Simon Stagg is dead, Terrifictechstock is plummeting, and now Sebastian Stagg has shown up to claim his father's company.  If all of that is too much of a coincidence for you, then we are in the same boat!

After a brief flashback showing why we haven't seen Sebastian much lately, we get a two-part story unfolding.  Sapphire and Metamorpho stay with Sebastian to figure out the what's what, while the T-Council and the rest of the Terrifics head off to save Gateway City from meteorites.  Meteorites with Terrifictech branding!

Everything seems to be okay with Sebastion at first (seriously, though, the guy has a face tattoo, so I never trusted him!), the evil-doing converges when the Terrifics head into space to investigate the meteorites.  They are part of a Terrifictech Space Station, being ripped apart by... I won't spoil who it is because it's a fun surprise. The issue ends with a defection that I think isn't on the up-and-up, possibly a bunch of deaths and an evil cliffhanger that looked great.

The Terrifics #29 was another fun, fast-paced issue that looked great and made me want to see what happens next.  "Next" is the finale, and I would have been looking forward to that anyway, in a bittersweet way.

Bits and Pieces:

The Terrifics is coming to a close next month, and Gene Luen Yang is going to send it off with a bang!  This book may not be for everyone, but I have enjoyed it, especially since Yang took over.  At this point, I'd suggest grabbing the trade or wait to read it in the DC Universe App, but I do think you should at least check it out.
