**NON SPOILERS AND SCORE AT THE BOTTOM**

I never went to a camp that ran all summer long, but I did go to a religious camp that took place the week before Labor Day for a number of years. It didn’t have any concentrations in archery or canoeing, but I did make a lanyard once and climbed these big boulders that were piled up outside of the theater/crafts space. I suppose you could say I received some religious indoctrination, but it’s a hippie dippie quasi-religion, so our workshops were like “Unlearning Racism,” and “Important Women in History.” Mostly, I goofed off and rehearsed for a talent show at the end of the week. But you know what? I remained close friends with a lot of those people for a long time. One of my best friends to this day is from that camp. I think there’s something about being in an unfamiliar space during your formative years, with other kids in their formative years, that foments a special familiarity. I’m sure that’s what brings the Lumberjanes together—plus, the fact that they fight monsters together. I wonder what keeps those Gotham Academy preppies so tight? Maybe we’ll find out together, if you read my review!

Top 5 Fr-aturdays: My Top 5 Comic Book Crushes

Welcome to another exciting installment of Top 5 Fr-aturdays! Guys lets face facts... When a lot of us guys first picked up a comic, it's because we saw a very attractive super-heroine on the cover. I may be in a very happy relationship, but I won't lie and say that I had a few comic book crushes throughout my life and that's what we'll be going over today! As always, this list is opinion based, so if you don't see someone you like... or like like as the case is, I apologize. Enough talk! The Paybacks (2016) #1 Review - Just for the Hell of it Weekends

Time For Some Payback(s)

Written by: Eliot Rahal and Donny Cates
Art by: Geoff Shaw, Dee Cunniffe and Taylor Esposito
Cover Price: $3.50
Release Date: July 13, 2016
Publisher: Heavy Metal

While I was late in the game, the minute I began reading The Paybacks, it was a "Where have you been all my life?" kind of moment. It's hard for me to fully explain in an introductory paragraph like this, but believe me, it's just something that clicks in your brain and makes you so, so happy.

On the surface, the Paybacks is a great capes and cowls superhero book, but it is also so much more.  Eliot Rahal and Donny Cates obviously know the genre and use that knowledge to twist and bend things to turn them into something hilarious, unique and if you ask me, better.  With pop culture references galore, some of the best characters I've ever read, great art by Geoff Shaw and a crazy ongoing mystery, I thought this was going to be a book that I'd be looking forward to each month for years and years and years.  And then it ended after four issues. WTF?!?   Plus, it ended at a huge cliffhanger reveal...WTFFF?!?  What is this, a British television show or something?  So, when I heard that the book was picked up by Heavy Metal, I was more excited than a Jessie Spano Caffeine Pill Freakout! The only thing scary about all this is the worry that this continuation will not live up to the original and give me bad feelings inside my fragile heart.  So, did Rahal, Cates and Shaw come through?  Let's find out...

Have you ever listened to someone try to explain Game of Thrones to someone who has never watched the show? Let me tell you, it is fucking exhausting and I doubt anyone learned anything from the conversation. Don’t get me wrong, I love Game of Thrones but I have to admit that if I hadn’t been watching since the beginning, I would be confused beyond belief. The lore is just incredibly extensive and I like that but for a new fan, it can be overwhelming. Why are we discussing Game of Thrones in this review for The Adventures of Miru? Well, it’s because I’m starting to feel like the confused new fan that has no idea what’s going on, but let me try to explain it to you as we jump into the review.

So as I’m writing this review, I’m doing a lot of debating in my mind. On one hand, I have to realize that this book was not written with myself in mind. It is clearly written for a younger audience. On the other hand, I do believe that entertainment is universal. So I’m going to attempt to review this book by recognizing that some parts and jokes are not meant for me and will connect better with the intended audience. However, I’m still going to judge the book based on my own personal enjoyment of the book. So without further ado, let’s jump into Miraculous #2.

DC Comics Estimated Sales For June 2016

It's time to start CHECKING THE NUMBERS again and see how our big bad Rebirth books are doing for Mr. DC's bank account....... and from the look of things, that dude will be able to buy another rickshaw no problem now.  As per usual, we're only looking at what we consider the "main books" that DC Comics are putting out........ plus the Hanna Barbara books, but this will probably be the last month that I post the estimated sales for those.  With that said, don't go expecting VERTIGO books or collected digital titles to show up here....... because that would be too much work.  So go check out how your favorite books are faring in this brave new world of Rebirth.

Weird Science DC Comics Podcast Weekly Spotlight: Hal Jordan & The Green Lantern Corps Rebirth #1 and The New Super-Man #1

It's weekly spotlight time with Jim, Eric and Reggie talking about Hal Jordan & The Green Lantern Corps Rebirth #1 and The New Super-Man #1.  Enjoy and if you like what you hear, tune into our very long weekly podcast that goes up every Sunday Night...it's kind of worth it.

Vertigo Announces The Lost Boys Comic Book Sequel

Everything is coming up Milhouse this week for me with all the announcements from DC Comics about their upcoming mini-series set to hit this Fall, but who could have guessed that Vertigo would go and blow all of that out of the water by announcing a sequel to one of the best vampire flicks ever made...... The Lost Boys.  Yeah, people nowadays might have a hard time getting on board a movie that is drenched in the 80's the way this one is, but really, all you have to do is get to the epic sax man and you'll be hooked for life.  I know we don't review a ton of Vertigo books over here in Weird Science land, but since I've been rocking a headband like Corey Feldman's character Edgar Frog since I first saw this flick........ I can't wait to read and review this book.  Check out all the news going on right now about this comic that may or may not screw up the continuity to the Lost Boys: The Tribe and Lost Boys: The Thirst.

Cover Price: $0.99
Release Date: July 12, 2016

I would say that last chapter's cliffhanger promised a bloody good time, but that would be a really lame joke.  Oh, the hell with it...the last page showed Hawkman covered in blood and it sure didn't look like it was his own.  He looked like a badass and while I hate him for being the wife beater he is, I was intrigued to see what Batman had him looking for.  Do we get to see it and is it as cool as I hoped it would be?  Let's find out...

While we've all been on a Rebirth kick lately, what with all the titles being thrown at us with an almost rejuvenated feel to them, I find it almost nostalgic to look at this issue today because while Rebirth wasn't some huge reboot or something silly like that, this series seems so far removed from everything else that's going on........ and I don't want to say that this is unimportant...... but it's closer along those lines than most things we're dealing with nowadays and because of that, there doesn't seem to be as much pressure in reviewing it...... Yeah, that scenario doesn't really apply to most, but I'm selfish like that so I'm going with it.  In our previous issue we saw Fury make her mark on Earth 2 by making her presence known to the rest of the Wonders and declaring her and Aqua Woman's intent on making this the best world that they possible can, but after a vision from Khalid, a bunch of the Wonders start saying fuck this world because apparently Fury's Pandora Vessel is capable of bringing the old Earth back into existence along with everyone who died with it.  Too bad that Ultra-Humanite was watching this conversation go down because he's sent his genetically altered and aged children to fetch him Fury's Vessel and Dick Grayson's son John just happens to be one of these lost boys.  Let's jump into this issue and see if bringing back the proper Earth 2 is something coming down the pipeline or if the Ultra-Humanite's super powered sour patch kids take it for themselves.  Let's check it out.

DC Comics Announces Hawkman and Adam Strange: Out of Time Mini-Series

It seems like everything is coming up Eric Shea recently at the Weird Science DC Comics clubhouse.  Besides eating way too much Honeycombs, Eric has gotten a He-Man/ThunderCats crossover and now this...Hawkman and Adam Strange!  It's all about Hawkman for Eric and it doesn't matter if he's savage or not...well, he probably would prefer him to be savage, but that's not the point.  The point is, he can't wait for this book!  Here is the official Press Release...

DC Comics Announces Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love

If there is one thing I love, it's Forbidden Love...I mean Deadman.  I mean, of course I meant Deadman.  The title of this book reminds me of the trashy novels my mom used to read when I was a kid.  You know the ones...Fabio on the cover, dressed as a pirate with hair flowing over his chiseled chest.  Why the hell did she leave those in the bathroom for me to find?!?  If Rebirth left any fans wanting, it is those of the dark characters and this book may be a big step in filling their needs.  I just hope Fabio is in it.  Please let Fabio be in it.  Here is the official Press Release...

With the death of the New 52 Superman, we'll start to see new Super-people pop up as we get further and further into Rebirth. So far the Pre-Flashpoint Superman has taken the place of the recently deceased in the Justice League, his son Jonathan follows him on missions in a Superboy suit, Lex Luthor dons a Superman themed power-armor to protect Metropolis, and Supergirl returns later in the year. One of these new Super-People is Kong Kenan, a boy in China who is gifted the powers of the Man of Steel by Dr. Omen, one of the major players during The Final Days of Superman story arc.

When I first read the announcement of this New Super-Man, I was intrigued, to say the least. Not only do I love a good origin story, but to have a Superman that doesn't just start out working with the Superfamily feels like a contradiction... Can this work? Let's dive in and find out...

The Preacher Season 1 Episode 7 “He's Gone" Review and **SPOILERS**

Written By: Mary Laws
Directed By: Michael Morris
First Aired: July 10, 2016

Let's Catch Up:

Last week Preacher really took off and realized its early potential. Jesse learned that the thing inside him was not the voice of God but something called Genesis which is the love spawn of an angel and demon who were tasted that doomed Romeo and Juliet style loving and couldn't resist, Forbidden fruit and all. We also got one of the greatest action sequences ever to appear on the small screen. Tulip became a real life likable character as opposed to a bad accent that looks great smoking a cigarette. Jesse started to feel himself a bit too much and planned to use the voice to make the town good but unfortunately for poor Eugene he let his anger get the best of him and Jesse accidentally sent Eugene to hell.  Oh and the mayor covered up the murder of the folks from Green Acres.

Caught up?  Good. Glad we can finally move the fuck forward.

Well, it's been a knock down drag out fight so far in Action Comics and even though I'm not someone who snubs their nose at a good fight, it seems that's all this series has really been so far, except of course throwing some big ass mysteries at us....... which is great and all, but I'm left yelling at the comic to start answering some goddamn questions, but instead it's Superman and Doomsday punching each other....... and I've read that one already.  So yeah, Doomsday, Clark Kent showing up on the scene without any powers it seems and Mr. Oz being a big ass creep just watching the whole thing while probably touching himself.......  Okay, now you're all caught up.  Let's jump into this issue and see if Lex Luthor went and got his head popped like a grape, like it looked at the end of the previous issue and see if we get any answers about what the hell Clark Kent is doing........ you know, except being all mild mannered reporter about it.  Let's check it out.

Letters - Sal Cipriano
Release Date: 07.13.2016
Cover Price: $3.99

I agreed to take over the coverage on Wacky Raceland last month... thinking that perhaps a new set of eyes would afford us a more positive point of view on the book.  Ever since then, I've had a nervous tickle in my throat and pangs of Catholic guilt for robbing the world of another Jim Werner Wacky Wreview.

I got myself caught up on issue #1... and was immediatley disappointed that I'd somehow confused Wacky Races with the Laff-a-Lympics... just what in the hell did I get myself into?

In the days leading up to receiving my copy of issue #2, I felt like I did several years back when I was on unemployment.  Every day I'd trudge up to the mailbox... worst case scenario? No check, and I didn't eat that day... the best case?  I'd have a check, but everything would still really suck.

Wonder Woman #2 Review

Year Won

Written by: Greg Rucka
Art by: Nicola Scott. Romulo Fajardo Jr, and Jodi Wynne
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: July 13. 2016

I have already punched my ticket for the Rebirth Wonder Woman express and while my partner in slime, Eric Shea, hasn't been that impressed just yet, I love what Greg Rucka is doing.  Sure, it's very meta, and a bit confusing, but I have faith that he will open the curtain and make everything alright and completely awesome.  Of course, this is the first chapter in the Wonder Woman Year One story and that has me excited all by itself, but also to see how it ties in with the current day "Lies" story.  So, does Greg Rucka still have my undying love or am I going to looking over his shoulder for another dance partner soon?  Let's find out...

The Flash #2 Review

Speed Your Role

Written by: Joshua Williamson
Art by: Carmine Di Giandomenico, Ivan Placencia and Steve Wands
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: July 13, 2016

I am a huge fan of the Flash...the comic and the character.  However, I haven't been a huge fan of THIS comic.  It's a weird thing as I am also a huge Joshua Williamson fan so him doing the Flash should have been an easy "Up to the Plate Home run", but something has gone a bit wrong.  Wrong for me, but maybe not for new readers.  The reason I say that is Williamson has been giving a whole lotta recap, rehash and rosie and because of that, the book hasn't felt fresh to me.  Again, if you hadn't been reading the New 52 Flash, maybe that's not the case for you, but I'm selfish and only care about myself.  So, going into this issue, I was really hoping that the Fastest Man Alive can pick up the pace in his own book and make me a happy man once again.  Does that happen?  Let's find out...

Detective Comics #936 Review

Heart Breaker

Written by: James Tynion IV
Art by: Alvaro Martinez, Raul Fernandez, Brad Anderson and Marilyn Patrizio
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: July 13, 2016

Detective Comics has been one of my favorite books since Rebirth started, so it's weird for me to say that this issue means a lot to me going forward.  I need some more action and I need it now!  I love seeing a team come together and hum great montage songs as they train, but nothing beats seeing them taking it to the streets and kicking bad guy ass!  The way last issue ended, it is almost a certainty that we will get some of that this issue, right?  I mean, Batman looked like he was going to be on the losing end of a 50 on 1 street brawl and I've been waiting weeks to see it play out.  The wait is over and now that I've read it, are my dreams being answered by James Tynion IV?  Let's find out...

Alright! Another hot chapter of Adventures of Supergirl to continue this story with…wait a second. This is the last chapter? Why wasn’t I informed? And if I was informed why didn’t people make sure I paid attention? It just seems so…abrupt, you know? There’s still a thing to settle with Vril Dox. And we barely saw Kara’s office buddy, whatsizname…Hacker Joey or whatever. And what about James Olsen? Did he even show up? Something smells fishy here! Okay, I guess this didn’t have to be a total port of the television program, but damn…I was really hoping to settle into a long run here. Oh well, the show starts up again on the CW Network in…three months? What the hell is going on around here? I guess the new Supergirl comic coming in August will adhere more closely to the show than I thought. Well, enough rumination and conjecture, let’s send this first digital, then digital-first comic off in the way it doesn’t deserve: a final review by yours truly! Read on!

“RISE OF THE BATMEN” Chapter Three: In issue #936, Batman is M.I.A., and it’s time for Batwoman to take the reins! But can she control a strike force that’s barely worked together…including unstable wildcard Clayface?

Hey, Clayface is a lot of things...vain, selfish, dirty, but unstable?  I take that as a slap in the face for all of us Clayface supporters and I for one am going to contact the Clayface League this instant.  What? There is no Clayface League?!?  Well, I am going to change that right now!!! Guess what...there is now!

Harnessing the remainder of his will, Hal Jordan must become a one-man GL Corps to defeat his greatest foe and restore freedom to the cosmos.

Last I remember Hal Jordan, he had stolen Krona's gauntlet and taken off across the galaxy to escape the Corps, who got sucked into some alternate dimension anyway. And now he's going to become the entire Green Lantern Corps by himself? I know they say you should follow your dreams, but you've got to mitigate your expectations. Why not try to be, say, a third of the Green Lantern Corps for a while, and see how you like it?

“PATH TO DOOM” Chapter Three: Clark Kent gets caught in the crossfire as Doomsday crashes through the streets of Metropolis! As Lois struggles to keep young Jonathan out of the path of destruction, can former enemies Superman and Lex Luthor stop the monster that once destroyed the city and killed the Man of Steel—or does Luthor have other plans?

Goddamn, I hope we start getting some answers to what the hell is going on in this series because the suspense is killing me!  On a less dramatic note, I hope that the over the top "Death of Superman" style fighting is more of a side note here because while I love a good battle, I want this to be a little more.

“LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE” Chapter Two: In issue #2, The Flash trains novice speedster August Heart to help protect the people of Central City from the Black Hole, a new breed of rogue with a deadly agenda for the Fastest Men Alive.

I hope that Barry and August can get that Black Hole menace off the streets.  It's not the stealing and murdering that upsets me, it's the grafitti.  I mean, sometimes graffiti can be looked at as art, but that Black Hole symbol is just plain ugly and someone has to stop it.  Let's hope Barry and the newly powered-up August can finally do the job.

PREVIEW: Nightwing: Rebirth #1

Powerhouse artist Yanick Paquette (BATMAN, SWAMP THING) joins series writer Tim Seeley (GRAYSON, BATMAN & ROBIN ETERNAL) to return Nightwing to the DC superhero stage!

I really hope that everyone who decided not to read Grayson because it wasn't "Their Dick Grayson" gets back on the trolley with this series....... because goddamn it would be ridiculous if they didn't....... right?  To bitch and moan about Nightwing not being around even though Grayson was a really fun book..... Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this, even though I will miss the red and black costume.

The Punisher #3 Review

Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: July 6, 2016

I really don't have much of a background with The Punisher besides hearing Eric go on and on about his favorite Punisher story, Welcome Back, Frank.  I have to admit, I usually tune him out and now I wish I hadn't because I've been given the task to read and review the new Punisher comic by Becky Cloonan and Steve Dillon.  The series has just started and while Cloonan's slower pace isn't what I expected at all, it has actually helped me jump in and get my footing pretty quickly.  Cloonan is definitely more concerned with building her characters than riddling them with bullets, but don't worry, there is still plenty of the old ultra-violence to go around.  So, how is the third issue of the series?  Let's find out...

Going into Deadpool V Gambit, I just figured that we'd get two great characters coming together, fighting, maybe teaming up and then probably fighting again before going their separate ways in the series finale, but to my surprise it seems that this series has more depth in that the story is based around a heist........ and who doesn't love a heist?  In the previous issue we saw our two title characters run into one another and reminisce about the last time they pulled a job and how it all went so wrong, after the man who brought them together (Raul Chalmers, the former Black Fox) double crossed them.  All of that is in the past now though as Raul has brought them back together for another job and as most things like this are considered, it's apparently the score of the century.  Let's jump into this issue and see how Deadpool and Gambit's heist works out now that they're in the thick of things or if history will repeat itself.  Let's check it out.

DC Comics Updates a Classic With The Vigilante: Southland

From Batman, to Paul Kersey, to Foxy Brown and then to Eric Shea, everybody loves a vigilante.  They get shit done!  The only red tape they deal with is police tape dripping with the blood of some piece of crap asshole who is trying to do piece of crap asshole things to us common folk.  I don't have much of a history with DC's Vigilante, but it looks like this is a good jumping on point for me and the description below hits all the right points.  If you think you have some sort of book reading immunity to this series...It's just been revoked!  Here is the official Press Release...

You readers have no idea how excited I've been to get my hands on this one. Really I'm always excited for a Spidey release; ITS JUST THAT GOOD! It's not a multi-issue dark epic that you get in nearly every series on the shelves. It's a comic that will make you laugh, have an adventure, and will only need you to pick up one. Each issue is a one-off adventure that has Spidey going against old-school versions of his foes while living his regular high school life with bullies, classes, and Gwen Stacy. While I do like the recent Spider-Man stories, it feels good to go back to basics with quips and web thwips. So what adventures do we have in store this time? Let's dive in and find out...
