THE PHANTOM LANTERN: PART ONE

Released: November 2nd, 2016
Writers: Sam Humphries

Review written by Joey Casco of TheWineStalker.net

In Green Lanterns #9, we saw the life story of Frank Laminski. How he was raised, how he became obsessed with Power Rings, and how he was approached by Volthoom to wield the Phantom Ring. The only problem is... the Phantom Ring is in the hands of a Guardian and two Green Lanters. Lucky for Frank, they're a bunch of screw ups.

Writer: Tim Seeley
Art Team: Dan Fraga, Richard Friend, Matt Yackey
DC Comics
Release Date: November 20, 2019
Cover Price: $3.99

Dark Multi-Verse He-Man

One way DC Comics always gets me to plunk down a few bucks is when they decide to go ahead and drop a new He-Man series on our laps.  He-Man & the Masters of the Multiverse is the latest title to get me off my wallet, with Tim Seeley returning to pen the characters again, as this all draws my attention immediately because I liked the premise, from the title, and the team involved upon first announcement. Let's see if all that momentum translates into an attention-grabbing first issue.

Are Teen Titans team is a mess right now.  Roundhouse went and turned heel against his friends because Robin got his sister killed years ago, Djinn is now trapped inside her ring and Crush has gone to the dark side now that Lobo was given a gift from Lex Luthor that allows the Main Man to control his daughter's mind.  Let's jump into this issue and see if there's anything here that can bring this team back together again or if it's just more doom and gloom from here on out.  Let's check it out.

He Wears His Sunglasses At Night

Written By: Dan Jurgens
Art By: Ronan Cliquet, Nick Filardi, Andworld Design
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 20, 2019

After we got the background of what's been going on with Dick Grayson in the Nightwing Annual, I couldn't wait to see more about Dick's amnesia that was purposely caused by the Court of Owls in order to finally get their "Gray Son" in line to become the Talon they always wanted him to be.  Let's jump into this issue and see if William Cobb's plans will be successful now that he has memory implanting goggles on Ric, which will fill in the gaps in his memory, but in all the wrong ways.  Let's check it out.

Metal Men #2 Review

Mind Over Metal

Written By: Dan Didio
Art By: Shane Davis,Michelle Delecki, Jason Wright, Travis Lanham
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 20, 2019

After the bombshell that was last issue, where we learned that Dr. Will Magnus has been lying to us all along about his Metal Men truly being alive, I'm really hoping that this issue can maintain the type of hype that the beginning of this series started.  It's really possible too because at the end of last issue, we saw that in the depths of Challengers Mountain was a pit of liquid Nth Metal and within that liquid came a sentient Nth Metal Man, calling out for Will Magnus.  I'm intrigued.  Let's jump into this issue and see if we can get to the bottom of this mystery.  Let's check it out.

Flash Forward #3 Review

Raising The Stakes

Written By: Scott Lobdell
Art By: Brett Booth, Norm Rapmund, Luis Gerrero, Troy Peteri
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 20, 2019

Alright, let's head back into the Multiverse, where Tempus Fuginaut and Wally West are on a quest to rid all the worlds involved of a Dark Multiverse infection, spreading all around.  Previously, we saw Wally join up with Calvin Ellis and the Justice League of Earth-23 to wave his magic stick at some muck and make it go away and I'm hoping that now we've gotten that out of the way, this will become a bit more epic than simply going from place to place and shaking a stick at some darkness.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Supergirl is finally getting to a place where we aren’t leaning on different books or crossover stories to move the story forward. Supergirl has begun to go her own way. Sure, there are still some things about former crossovers that are still affecting the book, but readers of this book are finally getting to focus on their own story for the first time in a long time. She’s dealing with Leviathan still but she’s also got Brainiac-1 to deal with and his invasion of the Fortress of Solitude. There’s a lot to look forward to with this book but and I’m looking forward to continuing on in this book. Let’s just jump into this new issue and see where it takes us.

The Monster Inside

Written By: Dennis Hopeless Hallum

Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 20, 2019

We're continuing our Infected one-shots with The Scarab this week, where we'll find out how Jaime Reyes went and got himself infected by the Batman Who Laughs...... and with that, hopefully discover some kind of rules to this infection because each story that someone who is infected shows up in, it seems that they all do something different and have different motivations, even though the ones showing up in the Batman/Superman book seem to be under the thrall of the Batman Who Laughs.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Batman/Superman #4 Review

All Along the Watchtower

While we haven't seen all of the Infected Secret Six yet, it's all hands on deck as Joshua Williamson and crew dive headfirst into the deep end of their story.  I have been a bit on the lower part of the scoring curve, but maybe putting on the gas is just what this story needed.  Is that the case?  Let's find out...

"Some Kind of Beef"

It's time to check in with the whole gang...Batman, Lex Luthor, Superman, Perpetua, Jarro...yep, they're all here and ready to continue the Brawl for it All at the Edge of the Universe and beyond!  I was hoping for a TLC match, but it's pretty much been a tag-team from the start so let's stick with what's got us here.  Will we get more twists, double-crosses and heel takes this issue?  Let's find out...

Batman #83 Review and *SPOILERS*

Release Date: November 20, 2019

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

We are nearing the finale of City of Bane and things have been left in a crazy state. While I was initially underwhelmed by the previous issue, there are quite a lot of plot points that have been left hanging that I’m very interested in seeing to fruition. Bane has been removed from the equation after being attacked by Thomas Wayne and he has captured Bruce and Selina as well as gotten rid of the Bat Family. I would assume these last few issues to go at light speed with all the things we have to cover before the finale. Let’s just jump into this new issue and see where it takes us.
