To the Extremity

Written by: Daniel Warren Johnson
Art by: Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: March 1, 2017
Publisher: Image Comics
Review by: Repairman Jack

With the promise of a mix between Studio Ghibli and Mad Max, Extremity is already setting a high bar for itself. Add to it a somewhat waning genre of futuristic sci-fi fantasy and I was a little hesitant. Everything this book is throwing out there really has my attention, it’s all in whether it pays off or if it relies too heavily on those styles and tropes to really forge something itself. So click through to the review to see how I thought the first issue held up.

Top 5 Fridays: Top 5 Trinities in DC

Welcome back to another exciting addition of Top 5 Fridays. While there were many good comics this week, the one that interested me the most was the most recent issue of the Trinity comic. To those who didn't read it, we witness the birth of a villainess Trinity, made up of Lex Luthor, Ras Al Ghul, and Circe. While the issue was subpar, I was intrigued by where the villainous Trinity would go. Then it made me think about the number of Trinities there actually were in the DC universe. While we know that Superman, Batman, and wonder woman are the main Trinity that we know and love(despite the site's current scores on them), but if you take a step back, you'll realize that the best team often come in three. Today, we will be exploring a few other Trinities that I find fascinating. As always this is an opinion based list, so if you don't see a team you would like, I apologize. With the formalities out-of-the-way, get two of your best friends, and let's dive into this list.

**NON SPOILERS AND SCORE AT THE BOTTOM**

Here it is, folks! The last issue of the first arc of Cave Carson! At least, I think it’s the last issue of the first arc. It should be, by rights, in order to make a typical trade collection. Ugh, what am I saying—a typical trade collection? I always say writing for the trades is one of the worst things about modern comics! What have I become? Am I just another tool for the secondary market publicity department? Out, vile fiend! Let’s just look at this one, singular issue at hand: Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye #6. Is it an ending? Is it a beginning? I don’t know! And let’s not presume too much until I spoil the crap out of it.

Batwoman #1 Review and *SPOILERS*

Letters By: Deron Bennett
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

The first issue of this new Batwoman series left me… let’s say underwhelmed. That said, plenty of people enjoyed it but now we get to the true test as we are about to dive into the very first story arc of this new series. Sure, the rebirth issue stumbled out of the gate but if the main series is done right this book will be able to stick the landing. What do we know about this story so far? Well, we learned about the “lost year” that Kate had and she apparently spent her time in Coryana. Now she has to hunt down the monster venom drug as it has hit the black markets around the world. Let’s just dive right into issue number 1.

Art Team: Freddie E. Williams II and Jeremy Colwell
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

This is it the big conclusion between whatever is left of our heroes and Mumm-ator in the final issue of this very enjoyable mini-series.  If you’re new here, you may be asking yourself, I came here for He-Man and Lion-O, what in damnation is a Mumm-ator exactly?  My only answer for you would be the most fearsome villain in existence with a sense of humor matched by few if any in the Multiverse.  So lets see what the ultimate prankster has in store for our heroes in the series conclusion shall we. Summon the power and join me after the jump.

The Wild Storm #2 Review

Three Way

Written by: Warren Ellis
Art by: Jon Davis-Hunt, Steve Buccellato and Simon Bowland
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

I was so impressed with the kick off to The Wild Storm last month that it quickly jumped to the top of my pull list.  Warren Ellis didn't hold any hands with his cold open to the rebooted universe and that along with some of the smartest writing and kick ass visuals won me over after one page.  So, do we get more information this issue and does my love for The Wild Storm continue?  Let's find out...

Odyssey of the Amazons #3 Review

Oh Well...

Written by: Kevin Grevioux
Art by: Ryan Benjamin, Don Ho, Tony Washington and Saida Temofonte
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

I really think this book was doomed from the start.  No Wonder Woman, a twelve issue series condensed to six...yea, Kevin Grevioux was running uphill from the start and it really does show.  Everything has felt rushed...the story, the characterizations and even the dialogue.  On top of all of that, this story is just too gritty and grim for me, especially during a time when the word "hope" is being used to describe the new direction of DC's books.  I understand if you disagree with me and love the hell out of this book and I'd love to hear why, but right now I'm here to review the latest issue.  Here we go...

Aquaman #19 Review and **SPOILERS**

In Water, No One Can Hear You Scream (Except for Aquaman)

Artist: Philippe Briones
Colorist: Gabe Eltaeb
Letterer: Pat Brosseau
Cover: Brad Walker, Andrew Hennesy & Gabe Eltaeb
Cover Price: $2.99
On Sale Date: March 15, 2017

**NON SPOILERS AND SCORE AT THE BOTTOM**

Site overlord and podcast taskmaster Jim Werner issued a teaser recording on his feed this past Sunday morning advertising a forthcoming New 52 podcast. He suggests, and rightly so, that Rebirth is not a full reboot, so many that jumped on in June 2016 might be curious about storylines stemming from the New 52. That couldn’t be exemplified more in this issue of Aquaman, which literally continues the storyline from just before Rebirth. And you know what? I wasn’t reading Aquaman then! Am I able to follow along? Generally speaking, no. But maybe this time I paid reasonable attention!

Harley Quinn #16 Review and **SPOILERS**

Boob Window Shopping

Writers: Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner
Artist: John Timms, Joseph Michael Linsner
Colors: Alex Sinclair
Letters: Dave Sharpe
Cover: Amanda Conner & Alex Sinclair
Cover Price: $2.99
On Sale Date: March 15, 2017

**NON SPOILERS AND SCORE AT THE BOTTOM**

I’m in Miami right now, enjoying some sun and fun and food that is way to rich for my middle-aged gastrointestinal system. And being in the state where most of Palmiotti and Conner’s Starfire miniseries took place, I have to ask the question posed by Eric two episodes of the podcast ago: why isn’t Harley Quinn partnering up with Starfire and Atlee instead of Power Girl and Atlee? I mean, Atlee doesn’t even know PeeGee, until now, and both she and Kori have equivalent power sets. Besides the annoying continuity flub in establishing Power Girl on Prime Earth when she’s been on Earth-2 for years, it seems like the long way around a story. I bet there’s a swell reason! I’m too sunburnt to think on it too long, so let’s just get to my review of Harley Quinn #16, right here!

Super Sons #2 Review

If You Do Meet Reggie...

Written by: Peter Tomasi
Art by: Jorge Jimenez, Alejandro Sanchez and Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

As Reggie would say, this is my jam.  Like everyone else, I had been patiently waiting for Super Sons to drop and when it did, I wanted more, more, more.  I'm sorry if I sound like Andrea True, but I love this book so much.  It's easy to see why, I love both Damian and Jon and Peter Tomasi is playing them off of each other so well.  Plus, Jorge Jimenez's art was fantastic in the first issue and I am betting that doesn't change anytime soon.  So, is this issue just as good or even better than the first? Let's find out...

Nightwing #17 Review and *SPOILERS*

Double Trouble

Written By: Tim Seeley
Art By: Javier Fernandez, Chris Sotomayor, Carlos M. Mangual
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Nightwing's got a lot on his plate as of late.  Not only does he have a brand new city to contend with, but he's got a new job and a new girlfriend, who may or may not be pregnant with our hero's child.  Yeah, Nightwing might be a daddy, but that may never come to pass if Damian and him don't track down the person who kidnapped his baby mama and from what I saw of that kidnapper, they want to act fast because he's some kind of monster looking version of our hero, calling himself Deathwing.  Let's jump into this issue and see how well our former Batman and Robin team work together and hopefully see them bring Shawn Tsang home so we can find out more about this baby mama drama.  Let's check it out.

All-Star Batman #8 Review and *SPOILERS*

Down The Rabbit Hole

Written By: Scott Snyder
Art By: Giuseppi Camuncoli, Mark Morales, Dean White, Steve Wands, Francesco Francavilla
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Let's keep moving as Batman tries to stop that ancient bacteria from ripping through the world and putting humans on the endangered species list.  Previously, we saw Batman try and stop Mr. Freeze from unleashing this nightmare and even though he came prepared and it looked like our hero prevailed, the bacteria still got out in the world so that led Batman to track down Poison Ivy so that he could find a cure, but that was only after a little girl was affected by it and died a horrible death, setting off a panic about what the world was going to do.  Let's jump into this issue and see if Poison Ivy's cure worked and where Batman will end up and with which villain.  Let's check it out.

Trinity #7 Review

The Pits

Written by: Cullen Bunn
Art by: Clay Mann, Miguel Mendonca, Johnny Desjardins, Brad Anderson and Steve Wands
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

Trinity was going to be my book.  Mine, Mine, Mine... I was looking forward to it the moment it was announced and so greedily snatched it up that I'm sure Eric and Reggie looked to see if I was wearing an Orange Ring.  By the way, I was.  I thought this was going to be the place to be for great art and great stories involving the three best characters DC has to offer.  Hey, at least I got the first part, right?  The art has been stellar throughout, but the story has been subpar and has left me wanting so much more. So, with Cullen Bunn jumping on this month, do I finally get both?  Let's find out...

Green Lanterns #19 Review and *SPOILERS*

A Magnetic Personality

Written By: Sam Humphries
Art By: Ronan Cliquet, Blond, Dave Sharpe
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

It looks like we're going to have to wait to find out what Volthoom's master plan is now that he's inhabiting Rami, the banished Guardian's body because first we have to deal with one of the repercussions of the Justice League Vs. Suicide Squad event and that's Dr. Polaris being out and about and possibly doing some damage......... which is kind of weird after having that big Volthoom backstory that went and fucked up so much of the Green Lantern continuity last issue, but I'm excited to see what Dr. Polaris has in store for our heroes and hopefully see them have the ability to take him down.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Justice League #17 Review

Moving Day

Written by: Bryan Hitch
Art by: Fernando Pasarin, Matt Ryan, Brad Anderson and Richard Starkings
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

Since the last issue of Justice League surprised me so much, I have to admit that this may have been the first time I've been looking forward to reading Justice League since the start of Rebirth.  While that is a back handed compliment of sorts, it's at least positive and that sort of thing is rare nowadays when the Justice League is involved.  Last issue did a better job of explaining the Timeless and the Infinity Corps and really got me intrigued with what was going on with the League.  So, does Hitch follow it up with another good issue?  Let's find out...

Green Arrow #19 Review

My Ward...

Written by: Ben Percy
Art by: Eleonora Carlini, Mirka Andolfo, Arif Prianto and Hi-Fi and Nate Piekos
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

Put Oliver Queen and Roy Harper together and there are bound to be sparks, if not flames.  Ben Percy obviously knows that and really played off of that in the beginning of his "The Return of Roy Harper" arc.  By mixing in the past and the present, he showed me how much I want a Green Arrow/Speedy book even as he showed us why that may never be possible.  The issue ended with a punch to the face cliffhanger courtesy of Roy and while I thought it was odd that he didn't seem to know Ollie's life was in shambles, I went with it because I was having so much fun.  That being said, I enjoyed the flashback bits way more than the present day stuff and was hoping that might change (or at least even out) this week.  Did they and was this issue as good as the last?  Let's find out...

Superman #19 Review and *SPOILERS*

Better Red Than Dead

Written By: Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason
Art By: Patrick Gleason, Mick Gray, John Kalisz, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

We're now at part three of a four part story and besides for Mxyzptlk coming out and saying that he's been the human Clark Kent this whole time, this Superman crossover has kind of come off as a bust to me so far.  Yeah, it's cool to finally know what was up with the human Clark Kent and all that, but the explanation felt cheap to me because with Mxy being behind the whole deal that means that anything can pretty much be explained away by magic and everything loses a bit of legitimacy because of it.  On top of that, there's a whole lot of continuity errors between these stories that are just down right pissing me off, but hopefully they're all explained away by revealing that there's something else to this story besides the 5th Dimensional imp running amok.  Let's jump into this issue and see how Superman combats Mxyzptlk now that he's made it so the world has forgotten about Jon.  Let's check it out.

Batman #19 Review

Falling...Knightfalling

Written by: Tom King
Art by: David Finch, Danny Miki, Trevor Scott, Sandra Hope, Jordie Bellaire and Deron Bennett
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: March 15, 2017

I am Bane continues and I really am not sure if Tom King can top last issue for me.  It was such a great combination of what and how that had me so impressed and if anybody was looking for the return of O.G. Bane, they got it.  THEY GOT IT!  The Show must go on, however and the arc continues this week and last issue's cliffhanger left me wondering how much damage Bane will do in Arkham Asylum and if Batman would even be able to fight him off.  Here we go...
