Nightwing #83 Review

Grayson's Billions

Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Bruno Redondo, Adriano Lucas, and Wes Abbott
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 18, 2021

I was so pumped when I heard Tom Taylor was going to write my favorite character, Nightwing.  The book had been shit for far too long, and Taylor is one of my favorite writers.  After loving the first issue, though, I haven't been digging the series as much as I'd hoped as Taylor keeps playing it safe each issue with fan service moments that feel like they are there to hide the fact that not much story has been going on.  So, after finding out that Dick has a long-lost sister in Melinda (not a huge fan), what do we get this month?  Let's find out...

Superman and the Authority #2 Review

Trolls, Flags, and Parties, Oh My!

Writer: Grant Morrison
Artist: Evan Cagle, Mikel Janin, Fico Ossio, Travel Foreman, Jordie Bellaire, Sebastian Cheng, Dave Stewart, Alex Sinclair, and Steve Wands
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: August 17, 2021

I enjoyed the first issue of Superman and the Authority way more than I expected I would. Unfortunately, the timeline is a bit wonky because it is a 5G book thrown into Infinite Frontier, but Grant Morrison did a good enough job to keep it flowing smoothly.  With the limited space he is playing with, I expect to get the rest of the team this issue, and I am pretty pumped for that. So let's find out what's up with Superman and the Authority...

Catwoman #34 Review

Shot in the Dark

Writer: Ram V
Artist: Fernando Blanco
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 18, 2021

We are almost at the big Fear State Crossover, and it felt kind of like nobody told Ram V the schedule.  The last issue felt like he suddenly had to put 10 lbs of story into a 5 lb bag, but hopefully, that pays dividends starting now.  Plus, Mr. V ended the issue with Batman saving Catwoman, and how crazy is that?!?  So, does this issue take advantage of all that setup and hit hard?  Let's find out...

Batman/Catwoman #6 Review

Cat Ornaments And Where They Came From

Written By: Tom King
Art By: Clay Mann, Tomeu Morey, Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: August 17, 2021

It's been two months since our previous issue of Batman/Catwoman and in that time..... Well, I kind of forgot that this was a book but beyond that, within that time I'm sure many people have wondered about Helena Wayne's pursuit to find out if her mother Selina killed the Joker in the future, what was going on with drunk Selina in the past and what was the next move in killing the Joker when it looked like Selina decided to team up with Phantasm in our present. Hopefully, all these answers are here since we had to wait so long so let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Shazam! #2 Review

The Hell You Say!

Written By: Tim Sheridan
Art By: Clayton Henry, Marcelo Maiolo, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 17, 2021

Something weird is going on with the power of Shazam! and now Billy Batson is going to get to the bottom of it..... and I do mean bottom since it seems that one of the big things affecting his transformation and individual powers is that the Rock of Eternity had plunged from the center of the Multiverse into the underworld hellscape and now it's up to Billy and a Titans Academy magical chum named Dane to get to hell and somehow put the Rock back where it belongs. Let's jump into this issue and see how Hell affects our two heroes on their journey. Let's check it out.

Batman Secret Files: Clownhunter #1 Review

An Insane Posse Of Clowns

Written By: Ed Brisson
Art By: Rosi Kampe, Andrew Dalhouse, Simon Bowland
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: August 17, 2021

We have another Batman Secret Files this week and while these one-shots have been featuring characters that don't get a lot of love in comics normally, with stories that vary in how much they want to expand on the character, I'm hoping that this one makes people care about Clownhunter again because while it feels like Bao Pham made a decent splash in the aftermath of the Joker War, it feels like we're so far removed from that now that the idea of a Clownhunter comes off as almost odd....... but maybe this one-shot will get us... or maybe just me back on the Clownhunter trolley. So let's look at what this issue has to offer.

The Flash #773 Review
