Ghost Station Zero #3 Review

From Russia with…hmmm...

Written by: Antony Johnston
Art: Shari Chankhamma
Letters: Simon Bowland
Publisher: Image
Reviewer: Andrew McAvoy

I haven't enjoyed this series up until now but was hoping that third time was the charm. Sadly not. If there was an award for fitting "spy film tropes" into a comic book then it may win; but I think that is the only award this title is going to bring in. It is difficult to make a series in this genre dull, but somehow this title - which I picked up in eager anticipation of a good read - doesn't deliver the goods. Let's dip in and see why this title has been denied a License to Thrill (You see? Reviewers can use tropes too).

The Infinite Loop: Nothing but the Truth #2 Review

I've seen the Headset and the damage done, a little part of it in everyone

Written by: Pierrick Colinet and Elsa Charretier
Art: Daniele Di Nucuolo
Colors: Sarah Stern
Letters: Ed Dukeshire
Publisher: IDW
Reviewer: Andrew McAvoy

I thought that the first issue of Nothing but the Truth, Colinet and Charretier's follow up to the Infinite Loop Volume 1, went deep. This second installment takes us further into Teddy's situation, with some neatly played allegories for real world issues. It's a book that is clever enough not to shove allegories down your throat; the book can be read on two levels, and both readings will be equally as effective.

War Mother #3 Review

Mother May I?

Writer: Fred Van Lent
Artist: Stephen Segovia

Review by: Andrew McAvoy

We meet War Mother, aka Ana, still battling The Cleansed and working on an escape after she retrieves her companion, the sentient rifle Flaco. One thing to bear in mind though, hell hath no fury like a rifle scorned. Let's see how Ana gets on in the latest installment.

Trinity #14 Review

Ti esrever dna ti pilf nwod gniht ym tup I

Written by: Rob Williams
Art by: V Ken Marion, Sandu Florea, Dinei Ribeiro and Steve Wands
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 18, 2017

It's time to get back to the Dark Destiny story and last issue finally got me on the trolley.  Sure, V Ken Marion's art had a lot to do with that, but I also loved Constantine and Deadman/Superman.  I am hoping this issue gives us a little more information about Circe's real plan for the Trinity and how Ra's, the Outlaws and everyone else is involved as well.  Do we find out that and more in this penultimate issue?  Let's find out...

Wonder Woman/Conan #2 Review And Spoilers

Diana the Barbarian

Written by: Gail Simone
Art by: Aaron Lopresti and Matt Ryan
Colours by: Wendy Broome
Letters by: Saida Temofonte
Published by: Dark Horse Comics and DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 18, 2017

Last month’s opening installment of this series was big on action, a characterization of Conan that foregrounded his grim humour and mercenary streak, and a Wonder Woman who, divorced from her familiar milieu and suffering amnesia, was cloaked in mystery. There was much to enjoy and I must admit I liked it a great deal. Left with a number of issues to explore, not least the precise nature of this version of Wonder Woman and the intriguing question of how she would get on with a hero like Conan, I awaited the arrival of this second issue with a fair amount of anticipation – and impatience. Was it worth the wait? Let’s find out…

Batwoman #8 Review and *SPOILERS*

Prison Break

Written By: Marguerite Bennett
Art By: Fernando Blanco, John Rauch
Letters By: Deron Bennett
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 18, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

It’s been no secret that I’ve been hard on this book. Last month in particular I went for everything I had against this book. I was swinging so much that I got certain things wrong and had to remove them later. That’s how hard I wanted to take this book down. Last issue just pissed me off in the perfect way and I hadn’t even planned on going so hard on it until I started writing the review and I felt myself get angrier and angrier. However, no matter how much I get disappointed by this book somehow, I keep hope alive that the next issue will be good. I’m like a gambling addict at this point. I know the last seven hands have been shit but that next hand could win me the money. Honestly, I need to be put in a program at this point. However, I’ve been allowed to indulge in my habit so lets jump right into this new issue and keep hope alive.

The Wild Storm #8 Review and SPOILERS

Doctor, Doctor…

Written by: Warren Ellis
Art by: Jon Davis-Hunt
Colours by: Steve Buccellato
Letters by: Simon Bowland
Cover Price: $3.99

Every so often, I forget. I forget how vast and positively bubbling with potential the Wild Storm universe is. Warren Ellis, though. Warren Ellis does not forget. As can be seen from the really quite outrageous turn this issue takes about half way through. With the exception of one or two moments here and there, the series so far has concentrated on delineating the nature of three major players in the Wild Storm universe – IO, Skywatch and the Halo Corporation. Up to now, it has been a series steeped in early 21st century obsessions with technology, power and the clandestine activities of organizations rich in both. This issue, however, Ellis reminds us that, as intriguing and fascinating as those organizations are, they are not the sum total of the Wild Storm universe. Far from it.

The Doctor is in, ladies and gentlemen. And she will see you now…

Aquaman #29 Review and **SPOILERS**

I See No Reason Why Aquaman's Treason Should Ever Be Forgot

Story: Dan Abnett

Lettering: Steve Wands
Cover Price: $3.99

**NON SPOILERS AND SCORE AT THE BOTTOM**

Now sit right back, and you’ll hear a tale: a tale of a fateful (comic) strip, whose solicit copy and early covers did not match the issues ship’d. It appears this tale was intended to be Arthur’s re-ascension to King, but you can tell it’s been re-tooled: he’s barely in the thing! He’s barely in the thing! It looks to me like Mera will be Queen and Artie will walkabout; if that happens then it suits me just fine, that’s all we talk about! Here’s my review of Aquaman #29!

Green Arrow #33 Review

Trial by Something

Written by: Ben Percy
Art by: Jamal Campbell and Deron Bennett
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 18, 2017

Now that the Hard Traveling Hero arc (and a Metal tie-in) is over, we can get to some important matters like proving that Oliver Queen isn't a murderer.  Yea, that's pretty big whether Ben Percy wants to deal with it or not.  Of course, finding out Wendy Poole was a big deal so I'm not really afraid that Oliver will go to jail for life, but crazier things have happened.  So, how does this new arc start out and is it good?  Let's see...

Super Sons #9 Review

Where's the Beef?

Written by: Peter J. Tomasi
Art by: Jorge Jimenez, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Alejandro Sanchez, Ivan Plascencia and Rob
Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 18, 2017

I have enjoyed the Super Sons book a lot since it debuted, but it hasn't made it to the top of my pile just yet.  Peter Tomasi has brought the fun, but up until now, there has been enough meat on the bone to make a satisfying backyard barbecue.  You know what I mean, right?  Do we get more this issue?  Let's find out...

Harley Quinn #30 Review and **SPOILERS**

Dishonor Hizzoner

Writers: Jimmy Palmiotti & Amanda Conner
Artist: John Timms
Colors: Alex Sinclair with Jeremiah Skipper
Letters: Dave Sharpe
Cover: Amanda Conner & Alex Sinclair
Cover Price: $2.99
On Sale Date: October 18, 2017

**NON SPOILERS AND SCORE AT THE BOTTOM**

Now that we know Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner will be leaving this title after issue #34, I expect we’re going to get a lot of storylines wrapping up and table-setting for the next writer, Frank Tieri. Plus, Harley Quinn is still running for the Mayor of New York City. Let’s jump into the beginning of the end of a long run of Harley Quinn with my review of issue #30!

Justice League #31 Review

All You Need Is Love

Written by: Bryan Hitch
Art by: Fernando Pasarin, Andy Owens, Oclair Albert, Brad Anderson, Richard Starkins and Jimmy
Comicraft's
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 18, 2017

It's the end of Bryan Hitch's Legacy story and while I have been a fan, it's showing some cracks lately.  It has been all about the kids for me, but the last couple of issues have devolved into a slug fest and that's a shame because Hitch's character work was really good.  So, does this finale get back to the good stuff and end on a high note?  Let's find out...

**NON SPOILERS AND SCORE AT THE BOTTOM**

Woohoo! I finally get to review Batman! I’ve been waiting for this moment, I’ve done a ton of research and really delved into the background of the Boy Who Would Be a Bat, and now I get to…wait, what’s this? It’s Batman…but like Aquaman? And with boobs? Let’s get to the bottom of this in my review of Batman: The Drowned #1, right here!

Superman #33 Review and *SPOILERS*

God of Apokolips

Written By: Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason
Art By: Doug Mahnke, Jaime Mendoza, Wil Quintana, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 18, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

It's been awhile since we had Tomasi and Gleason on this title and since I consider this title their book, I'm all kinds of excited to get them back on board because while the ending to Black Dawn was a little forced, the first twenty-five issues of this title came together pretty damn well and made it one of my favorite books in Rebirth........ I'm not considering the Road Trip arc a part of this...... that's just my prerogative as a fan of this series and a nut.  Anyway, let's get back to some meat in this series and see what these two creators have in store for us as we finally deal with the events of the Darkseid War, where Lex Luthor was given his super suit and deemed the God of Apokolips before completely bailing on them.  Let's check it out.

Green Lanterns #33 Review and *SPOILERS*

We Perish!

Written By: Tim Seeley
Art By: Eduardo Pansica, Julio Ferreira, Alex Sollazzo, Dave Sharpe
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 18, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Now that Tim Seeley is on this book I really hope that we can get away from all the "Willpower Spikes" that this series has given us instead of just giving us a charge like it should be, but really, I won't hold my breath on that.  It's a whole new world though with a whole new writer and hopefully that means that we'll be getting some new and interesting stories that will come together better than they have previously in this series.  Yeah, there's a lot of hoping involved with this issue and really, I just want a Green Lanterns title that I can be happy with and get completely back on its trolley because this was the series that I was looking forward to the most when Rebirth was announced and it just never lived up to the hype that I had for it.  Let's jump into this issue and see if Tim Seeley is the beginning of my hope realized and if this series can be redeemed.  Let's check it out.

Nightwing #31 Review and *SPOILERS*

Full House

Written By: Tim Seeley
Art By: Miguel Mendonca, Diana Egea, Chris Sotomayor, Carlos M. Mangual
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 18, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Bludhaven is still in turmoil since Nightwing arrived, but now it seems to be even worse because Raptor has showed up to the party and plans on making all the privileged people of the city pay for making the poor suffer.  Since it looks like Raptor is upping his game and putting people who don't deserve it in danger, Nightwing was forced to go to Blockbuster for help, making us all wonder how far Dick will go to take his former partner down.  Let's jump into this issue and see how far Nightwing will go to get his man.  Let's check it out.

Titans #16 Review and *SPOILERS*

A Crisis of Clay

Written By: Dan Abnett
Art By: Brett Booth, Norm Rapmund, Andrew Dalhouse, Josh Reed
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 18, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

It's going to hard for the Titans to continue to fight the good fight now that Wally West has died......... which I doubt any of us really believe, but for this issue, let's at least go with it.  Anyway, we saw previously that Gnarrk and Malcolm Duncan have been taken control of by either a powered up Psimon or an entity that they're trying to release from another dimension and because of this, Wally was killed using the speed force too hard with his weakened heart to try to save Dick Grayson.  Let's jump into this issue and see what it is that is trying to break down the doors to this reality and how it affects the Titans.  Let's check it out.

Batman #33 Review and *SPOILERS*

Pre-Wedding To-Do List

Written By: Tom King
Art By: Joelle Jones, Jordie Bellaire, Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 18, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Now that the War of Jokes and Riddles are over and Selina has accepted Bruce Wayne's marriage proposal..........  Well, we're going to see how Tom King deals with the whole pre-wedding stress that couples have.  What that means for Batman?  I don't know because it's probably going to be crazy and convoluted, but at this point all I really want to see is how the rest of the Bat Family deal with the news.  Hopefully, we get that here and we have a story line that makes sense the entire way through.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

(Dark) Knight In Court

Welcome back for your weekly Injustice recap and critique. I’m really only writing this review right now because I was watching the Cavs vs Celtics game and witnessed someone break their leg in half on live TV, which killed my appetite for sports for the night, so here I am reviewing away.  Anyway, let’s continue to peek in on the aftermath of the disaster left in the wake of Aqualad, commanded by Ra’s Al Ghul, and see if this raft stops flowing up Shit’s Creek sooner or later shall we ... join me.
