Batman/Superman #7 Review

Kandor Lives?

Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Nick Derington, Dave McCaig, and John J. Hill
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 26, 2020

This book seemed like it only existed to set up the Hell Arisen book, and I worried that it would have an identity crisis because of it.  However, the last issue's cliffhanger with Zod and Ra's had me excited to see what Joshua Williamson has cooking, especially if Kandor is involved.  So, is this the start of something big?  Let's find out...

Batman: Curse of the White Knight #7 Review

Writer: Sean Murphy

DC Comics
Release Date: February 25, 2020
Cover Price: $4.99

The Batmobile's Last Stand

Batman: Curse of the White Knight continues into the penultimate issue this month inching closer to the finale. While I enjoyed the issue last month I also noted that I wasn't sure how much was ground was left to cover here, and with two issues to go still, I was curious what was left to address and how the creative team would go about doing this.  Well, it seems we have our answer this month, so let's get right into this and discuss Curse of White Knight.

Batman Beyond #41 Review

My Mind, My Choice

Written By: Dan Jurgens
Art By: Sean Chen, Sean Parsons, Chris Sotomayor, Travis Lanham
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 26, 2020

It's the future and surprisingly, it isn't so bright that we all have to wear shades.  Hell, it hasn't even been a little bit sunny because in Neo Gotham we've had nothing but darkness as Terry McGinnis has been wandering the streets with amnesia, where his only friend is a former lover of Derek Powers, Blight and now that that big bad is back and looking for a new body, who better than a Batman who doesn't know who he is?  Beyond that though, we're also dealing with a new Batwoman in Neo Gotham, who we discovered in the previous issue, much to Matt and Bruce's chagrin, was Dick Grayson's daughter, Elainna.  Let's jump into this issue and see if Terry can wise up and get out of the clutches of Blight and if Elainna will continue being Batwoman now that her secret's out of the bag.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Justice League Dark #20 Review

The War Of The Parliaments

Written By: Ram V, James Tynion IV
Art By: Kyle Hotz, FCO Plascencia, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 26, 2020

You thought that magic was in trouble before, well you haven't seen anything yet because now it's time to get the forces of nature and life on board with the new status quo of magic and to do that we have to go after the many avatars of the different Parliaments of our world.  Let's jump into this issue and see if our Justice League Dark team can pull everything together so that the different Parliaments don't tear the world apart as their war for dominance begins.  Let's check it out.

Shazam! #11 Review

Who Made Who

Written By: Geoff Johns
Art By: Scott Kolins, Michael Atiyeh, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 26, 2020

It's time to check back in on the Magiclands and see what's going on with our favorite magical family.  In our previous issue, it seemed like the Wizard Shazam was acting mighty odd, especially when he attacked Billy Baton's father, CC and took his power away from him.  If that wasn't enough of a buzzkill, Dr. Sivana and Mr. Mind had made their way into the Monsterlands, where Mr. Mind planned on freeing his imprisoned Monster Society of Evil.  Let's jump into this issue and see if Billy Batson and his brothers and sisters can get to the bottom of what's going on and hopefully figure things out in time to stop the threats that are on their way.  Let's check it out.

Suicide Squad #3 Review

Squad Goals

Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Bruno Redondo, Adriano Lucas, and Wes Abbott
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 26, 2020

I have enjoyed the first two issues of Tom Taylor's Suicide Squad, and after last month's, I am ready for the old Tom Taylor magic to hit me hard.  Taylor has a way of making you know, then like, love and mourn for characters in his books, and it's a formula I enjoy.  Sure, I enjoy the love part the best, but there is a cathartic fun that a Tom Taylor book gives you when you are crying your eyes out over a character you knew nothing about just a couple months before.  So, who is it going to be next, and does this series continue to improve?  Let's find out...

Detective Comics #1020 Review

The Day, Another Cult

Writer: Peter J. Tomasi
Artist: Brad Walker
Inker: Andrew Hennessey
Colors: Brad Anderson
Letters: Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 26th, 2020

Two-Face is back in Gotham and the issue starts with him killing the brothers of a black market coin operation. He only takes the coins from 1922, all bullets are from a Browning 1911 .45, and it's pretty obvious that this was his work. But we get a lot of time spent on Batman confirming it, which I don't mind but Bats does get too big-wordy for what it was just to make it more detective-y.

Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen #3 Review

Can We Talk?

Writer: James Tynion IV
Artist: Steve Epting, Javier Fernandez, Nick Filardi, and Travis Lanham
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: February 26, 2020

I have enjoyed Hell Arisen enough, but I need more.  So far, it's been a gathering of forces, and a posturing war between Lex Luthor and the Batman Who Laughs.  While that is fun for a bit, it doesn't feel as big as it is making itself out to be, and I hope that ends this issue.  So, does this penultimate issue feel big, and is it any good?  Let's find out...

Batgirl #44 Review

Edit That Out!

Writer: Cecil Castellucci
Artist: Cian Tormey
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 26, 2020

Oh, Batgirl.  What did you ever do to deserve to get thrown into an Unearth story?  Maybe it's a karma thing for not being able to jog Ric Grayson's memory, but she certainly deserves better.  Seriously, I thought it could only get better after the Year of the Villain showed the best bad guy or gal they could come up with for Babs was an out of nowhere, never explained, Oracle robot based on the AI Barbara destroyed in Birds of Prey.  And who and what made and put it in mountain facility?!?!?  Oh, who the hell cares!  Let's get on with this issue, shall we?

Action Comics #1020 Review

Leviathan Dawn #1 Review

The C-Team

Written By: Brian Michael Bendis
Art By: Alex Maleev, Joshua Reed
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: February 26, 2020

The mystery/thriller continues here and if you didn't get enough answers out of the main event before...... Well, don't expect much more here.  Yeah, that's pretty cynical right off the bat, but if you've walked down one Brian Michael Bendis story, you've pretty much walked down them all.... especially at DC Comics because nothing ever truly ends and nothing is ever truly answered.  It just keeps going until you've forgotten what was going on in the first place, but hopefully, this one-shot that leads to Leviathan Checkmate at least will remind everyone what went down in Event Leviathan and who the players involved are.  Let's jump into this issue and see if Leviathan will start getting straight forward with us.
