The Green Lantern #8 Review

It's Not Easy Being Xeen

Writer: Grant Morrison
Artist: Liam Sharp
Publisher: DC Comics
Release Date: June 5, 2019
Cover Price: $3.99

Grant Morrison gives readers an homage to the old team-ups of old and I am always down with that.  I mean, there is not much more fun than a Green Lantern/Green Arrow romp like the days of Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams, right?  So, how was it?  Let's find out...

Female Furies #5 Review

Time Wasters

Writer: Cecil Castellucci
Artist: Adriana Melo
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: June 5, 2019

It's time to jump back into Female Furies for this penultimate issue.  I have been up and down with this series and while I have some problems with the characterizations and overall pacing of the story, I have loved the art throughout.  I am sure that some reviewers out there are avoiding this book because of its message and while I think that it has dominated the story more than it should at times (more on that later), I won't sit here and say that there isn't a place for it in comics.  The question I have, is this the place, though?  Well, let's jump into the issue and see what's going on...

Batman #72 Review and *SPOILERS*

Last Time on Batman…

Written By: Tom King
Art By: Mikel Janin, Jorge Fornes, Jordie Bellaire
Letters By: Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: June 5, 2019

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

My first issue with the Batman series was not what I had hoped. The previous issue gave us a lot of back and forth between two different timelines that had a tendency to confuse rather than intrigue. There were issues with continuity in it and frankly, it just wasn’t very good. That being said, King really impressed me when this book first started and while we have been in a bit of a slump lately, I choose to hold out hope that he can bring this unruly beast back and have us singing its’ praises once more. However, I still harbor fears that we will continue to trudge through this book with no answers, little progression, and a lack of continuity. I can only hope that those fears and unfounded. So, with that all being said, let’s just jump into this issue and see where it takes us.

It's time to dive back into Deathstroke, where previously we saw our favorite assassin die at the hands of Emiko Queen, the Red Arrow.  Yeah, we've seen deaths before and we've even seen Slade take a bullet through the head, right where we saw Red Arrow fired her arrow at him, but this issue we're focusing on the funeral of the Terminator and with that....... it looks like he's actually dead.  Let's jump into this issue and see if there's any revelations about the second coming of Slade Wilson.  Let's check it out.

After all, there are still a lot of heroes to check in on, plus we haven't even broached how to solve this problem, on top of all that you know Tom Taylor is just waiting to break your heart at some point too.  So lets jump right in here and discuss what's cooking.

The Magiclands are calling once again and that means it's time to check in on our Shazam! Family and see how they're dealing with their exploration.  Previously, we saw Billy and Mary taking on King Kid in the Funlands, Eugene and Pedro racing to get out of the Gamelands and Freddy and Darla being sentenced to death in the Wildlands.  Yeah, things aren't all pinatas and RC Cola for our heroes, but maybe their savior comes in a strange form.  That's right, Black Adam has entered the story and hopefully he can get past Dr. Sivana, who was blocking his path into the Funlands.  Let's jump into this issue and see what's what and if Billy's biological father showing back up is going to turn our heroes' world upside down.  Let's check it out.

Let's head back into Gemworld so that we can finish up this first Young Justice arc, where previously we saw Tim Drake have his mind opened so that he remembered Conner Kent....... but the Pre-Flashpoint version of him and the Young Justice team of that era..... Too bad that doesn't make much sense from what was going on in the story previously...... you know, since Tim had been friends with Conner in the New 52.  Oh well, let's jump into this issue so that we can see if Brian Michael Bendis can salvage any of this continuity.

It feels like just yesterday we were trapped with Batman in an onslaught of twisted, disturbing nightmares. Yet here we are, midway through The Fall and The Fallen.
