Hmmmm. Maybe its just me but when I read the previews for a new comic book I expect that when I pick up issue 1 it will bear some resemblance to the preview description. Or at least I feel that I should be able to read that description after reaching the end of issue 1 and think, "ah yes, that neatly encapsulates what I have just read". Well....em...anyway, let's see what Paradiso delivered for us.

The spirit world that exists alongside the physical one is the theme to be explored in this book. Alex Underwood is the central character, who gets a second chance at life but it comes at a high cost. Okay, so Halloween is over, but this book has lots of nice New York snowy scenes in it. So it'll get you in the Christmas Spirits...get it? Christmas...Spirits...Ghosts....nobody? Oh well, enough of the bad jokes and let's see what this spook...I mean book...has in store for us.

The first issue in this series was great. A fresh story that since then has arguably become more relevant with news headlines reflecting some of its themes. Part of the allure rests with the book's exploration of the double edged sword of online culture. Let's see what this issue adds to a strong start.

DC Comics Best Covers of the Week 12/6/17

The Return of the Judgmental One

Mea culpa folks, it's been two weeks since I've let loose a definitive list of the best comic book covers from DC Comics, but I have an excuse! I was supremely busy. I even went away to London for a few days, and when things get crunched, sorry to say that this is often the first of my comics meanderings to go. But when the schedule permits, I'm ranking that week's DC Comics covers, which I've done right here!

I imagine that a ghost can’t really haunt another ghost, but they can probably be very annoying. “There’s Harold again, with the chains. When is he gonna give it a break?” There are probably curt smiles exchanged in spectral hallways, polite banter at the ghoul coffee machine, but for the most part they keep it protoplasmically professional. Let’s see how the other half doesn’t live, shall we? Check out my review of Deadman #2 by Neal Adams, right here!

You know, I love comics. Comics are the medium in which anything can happen, in which image and word can interact in quite startling ways and in which, apparently, a beloved Hanna-Barbera property can become an insane fusion of commentary on the military-industrial complex, sexism and politics, and the kind of comedic sensibility generally found in, well, cartoons. Fancy that, eh? If all that sounds like your cup of tea, then step this way. I’ve got a comic to sell you.

Cowabungas & Batarangs

Did you read the first Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle crossover and love everything that was going on? Well if you did, and happened to pick up the trade paperback, you may have seen some of one of my review blurbs on the back cover. Ya shameless plug I know, but I only mention it because it infuriates Jim that I beat him to the back cover punch (while also beating him in fantasy football this week too). Anyway enough about me besting Jim. If you enjoyed everything going on the first time these two properties crossed over jump in with me and let’s check out the intro, to kick off of this second edition of the super team-up, of Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II.

I have been a bit hot and cold with this Green Arrow run, but when Juan is on an issue, it tends to bring the hottness!  I know that's not a real word, but it's my review and I'll make up whatever I want.  I don't have to make up my impatience to get to Oliver's trial.  A part of that is to see what goes down, but another part is hopefully leaving the Ninth Circle behind and getting on to something new.  So, how was this issue?  Let's find out...

Them sleigh bells jing-jing-jing-a-ling, uh, ting-tang-ting-a-ling loo…we’re gonna make our merry and, um, pop our cherries with you…okay, I’ll level with you: I don’t know a lot of the “peppier” Christmas songs very well. Primarily because I hate all Christmas music. So whatever I’ve heard has been on television or in department stores or in some horrible school play where I was forced to sing “O Christmas Tree” so the gymnasium could get new mats. But that doesn’t mean I’m not filled to the brim with holiday cheer! How could I not, when my review of DC Holiday Special 2017 #1 is right here?

It's time to check back in on Bane and see how his Conquest of the world...... or more importantly, his conquest on the criminal underground is doing, especially now that he's set Kobra in his sights.  Previously, we saw our title character going after the reincarnated Naja-Naja, after the previous one went and had himself an unfortunate accident.  With that, Bane hopes to keep Kobra unbalanced with no leadership, but Bane went and met his match....... Well, really, it seems that any woman who talks a little sweet to him in this series is his match because Valentina, a Kobra specialist got the drop on Bane and has him surrounded by Kobra agents while she took control of the Naja-Naja.  Let's jump into this issue and see what Bane's next move is and if he'll survive his own Maxi-Series.  Let's check it out.

Deathstroke is one of my favorite books in all of Rebirth.  It's the characters, the story, the art...well, I guess it's everything!  While the Defiance Squad has been awesome, I am having a hard time recommending it to others.  Why?  Because Priest is not making this book easy to just jump into, so instead of recommending this arc, I will recommend the entire series.  That could all change with this issue, however.  Does it?  Let's find out...

It's time to finish off Tim Seeley's run of Nightwing with the conclusion of Raptor's Revenge, where we saw the villain team up with DeFacer's former mentor Pigeon in a scheme to show the people of Bludhaven the monsters they actually are by turning them all into uncontrollable Blockbusters.  Now it's up to the Run-Offs to keep the city safe because Roland Desmond and Nightwing are trapped within the Marcus Casino.......... but from what we see here, that doesn't matter because the casino is apparently the place to be.  Let's jump into this issue and see how Bludhaven comes together to take care of itself.  Let's check it out.

Who is Singularity Jane?  Yeah, keep wondering because even though we'll get an entire issue of her here, I still couldn't tell you anything about her or why she even does what she does, but before we get to that; let me catch you up on what's been going down in Green Lanterns.  In our previous issue, we saw Bolphunga the Unrelenting come to Earth because he needed the Green Lanterns' help.  I don't know why he came to Simon or Jessica, but he did because he was tasked with killing his father in return for his release from the Sciencells on Mogo, but once it seemed that he couldn't go through with killing his father Boff, Singularity Jain, who made the deal with Bolphunga, came a callin'.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

The Shadow/Batman #3 Review and Spoilers

In The Dead Of The Night

Written by: Steve Orlando
Art by: Giavanni Timpano
Colours by: Flavio Dispenza
Letters by: Taylor Esposito
Published by: Dynamite Entertainment and DC Comics
Price: $3.99

Despite the odd bit of wonky storytelling, the ongoing exploration of the relationship between DC’s most iconic non-powered hero and the pulp giant on which his character is based continues to be an engrossing and, more often than not, entertaining read. In the first series featuring Batman and The Shadow, we saw the pair in Gotham and the mythical environs of Shamba-La. In this, the third issue of their second adventure, we see them in the setting of the boardroom of Wayne Enterprises as they try to make a dent in the nefarious vast criminal empire of the Silent Seven (or, if we’re being honest, two). Batman and The Shadow as vigilantes of the stock market? Alright, then…
