Deadman Fix All Tales

Writer: Becky Cloonan, and Michael Conrad
Artist: Marcio Takara
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: December 14, 2021

I haven't loved the Wonder Woman book in quite some time.  There have been a few bright spots, but it's been years since fans have had a solid run.  I have had the feeling for a long time that DC Comics has just handed out the book as an assignment than finding someone with a story they were passionate about telling.  Because of that, we keep falling back on the same tropes and cliches that might seem reasonable to new readers but have grown tiresome to long-time readers.  This run is no exception and throws in many weird things besides.  Cloonan and Conrad somehow think that the Phantom Zone (and some other odd things) is a part of the Multiverse and that Deadman can possess a dead man.  I get the joke there, but it isn't what the character does.  Oh well, let's see what is going on in this issue.

Let's head on back to school to check in on the possible future of the Teen Titans with the students that we want to love, but who at this point don't really feel all that fleshed out or even used a lot. Previously, we saw the start of what led to Future State and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse when Brat-Girl and Gorilla Gregg were tampering with the H-Dial but that wasn't the most important thing to happen in the last issue, no. We saw Roy Harper return home to Titans Tower and now it's time to see how this reunion plays out. Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Let's head on back to Gotham to see how Jace Fox is making out in being the next Batman. Previously, we saw Jace protecting his mother and police officers from the Seer's Moral Authority group who have been manipulated into becoming a vigilante group that believes that they are special and the only real ones who can take their city back from the masks and freaks who want to make it their own. That was only the beginning though as Tyler Arkadine, the man who put Jace Fox on this path to begin with was extradited to Gotham to face human trafficking charges was murdered in his cell. Let's jump into this issue and see if we can learn the truth about what's actually going on in Gotham and if it's too much for our new Batman to handle.

Let's get back to what I'm calling a seven-issue Hypertime story since we're essentially just dealing with an out-of-continuity story that features the Titans we see on the HBO Max show. In our previous issue, we saw our Titans going after Lady Vic for her connection to what Cadmus has been up to with collecting DNA from superheroes so that they can copy their powers, while Starfire's evil sister Blackfire was orbiting the Earth in her spaceship, torturing Superboy so that she could determine the extent of his powers...... even though it seemed like Superboy's powers were fading previously. Let's jump into this issue and see if we can make this strange mystery clearer or if things will continue to be shrouded. Let's check it out.

The hunt for the Joker continues after the previous Annual, where we saw a glimpse into the past and witnessed more reasons why Jim Gordon hates the Clown Prince of Crime. While taking a look into Gotham's past, where Batman and Batgirl were beating up bad guys and our new Commissioner Gordon was cleaning up the GCPD, that Annual issue felt more like taking all the narration boxes that we get in a normal issue of the Joker and expanding on it with an oversized issue. I'm not sure that we need to see more about why Jim Gordon doesn't like our title character because he tells us every issue it feels like but let's continue our look into the past with this issue of the Joker.
