Catwoman #14 Review

Writer: V. Ram
Artist: Mirka Andolfo, Arif Prianto, Saida Temofonte
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 14, 2019

Ram V is back for some more Catwoman action and that's always a good thing, because this run is already getting a bit stale.  There is never much forward momentum and the Creel Family as the Big Bads feels like old hat already.  That's not a problem this month, though, as Ram and Mirka are in the house and ready to kick ass!

Wonder Woman #76 Review

Written By: G. Willow Wilson
Art By: Lee Garbett, Romulo Fajardo Jr., Pat Brosseau
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 14, 2019

I wish I could say I have been a fan of this book since G Willow Wilson took over, but I can't.  I tried to be patient as she struggled to find her footing with Diana, but eventually, I stopped reading it and we even dropped it from the podcast.  Well, I'm back!  I am all caught up and ready to see if G Willow is ready to take the next step and get people buying and talking about Wonder Woman again.  Let's get to it...

Justice League Odyssey #12 Review

Add another ghost to the Ghost Sector

Writer: Dan Abnett
Artists: Will Conrad, Rain Beredo, Andworld Design
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 14th, 2019

Review by Joey Casco of TheWineStalker.net

Darkseid claims to be the only real hope for life to survive the fall of the Source Wall, but survival of life may not actually be in the best interest of life. He's gone back in time to manipulate the histories of our Odyssey team members to become gods of the planets in the Ghost Sector, and he's created a planet called Sepulkore to replace the destroyed planet of Apokolips.

The maelstrom surrounding the Ghost Sector can protect everything within from the damage that engulfs the entirety of existence, but Darkseid must become a fully powered Darkseid again... and you know that will just allow him to rule over all of remaining life like a tyrant. In the last issue, things really fell apart when our team tried to fight back, and it's about to get even worse. Like, really worse.

Collapser #2 Review and Spoilers

Hole-y

Written by: Mikey Way and Shaun Simon

Art by: Ilias Kyriazis and Cris Peter
Letters by: Simon Bowland
Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 14, 2019

The opening issue of this series was very promising. In Liam James, writers Shaun Simon and Mikey Way had created an eminently likable and engaging protagonist and the issue saw him drawn into the kind of increasingly bizarre series of events that is the stock in trade of any self-respecting out-of-left-field comic book title. With Collapser being a Young Animal book, that's definitely a good thing. More importantly, though, the issue told its story clearly with dynamic art and, the occasional foray into self-indulgent monologue notwithstanding, impressively smooth writing. Will the second issue carry on that trend? Let's find out…

Hawkman #15 Review

The Shadow Thief Is Getting Really Literal

Written By: Robert Venditti
Art By: Pat Olliffe, Tom Palmer, Jeremiah Skipper, Starkings & Comicraft
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 14, 2019

If you remember last issue and I hope you do, you'll remember that the Shadow Thief all powered up after taking Lex Luthor's offer went and stole Hawkman's shadow.  Yeah, I don't know what that means, but it didn't look pleasant..... almost like Shadow Thief was stealing his soul away, but now it's up to Carter to get it back and to do that he's going to an old friend for help.  Let's jump into this issue and see what The Shade will do to help out our Winged Warrior.  Let's check it out.

Titans: Burning Rage #1 Review

Written by: Dan Jurgens
Art by: Scot Eaton, Wayne Faucher, Jim Charalampidis, and Tom Napolitano
Cover Price: $4.99

Release Date: August 14, 2019

I was a fan of this story when it was coming out in the Walmart 100 Page Giants so I am glad it's coming out in comic book shops where more people can grab it.  I thought it suited the whole reason for the Walmart books in that it was a fun time that young and old readers could enjoy and did serve to show new readers why the Teen Titans are so cool.  I guess I am burying the lead a bit in this introduction so let's get to the review...

Detective Comics #1009 Review

Bring a change of clothes

Writer: Peter J. Tomasi

Artists: Christian Duce, Luis Guerrero, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 14th, 2019

Review by Joey Casco of TheWineStalker.net

So Batman is going around stopping all sorts of crimes. He's leaving signs with the criminals like "Tried mugging a fellow citizen. I will confess." and "Tried robbing a bus of senior citizens. We will confess." And all this while Alfred is trying to convince him to go home and get some rest for a big day at Wayne Enterprises in the morning. Eventually, Bruce gets home, out of his suit, and he's greeted happily by his dog Ace who even helps him close the curtains in his bedroom by tugging on them with an "rrff". But it's already 6:05am and by 6:07am Alfred is opening up the curtains and telling him to get his butt out of bed.

Batman and the Outsiders #4 Review

Written By: Bryan Hill
Art By: Dexter Soy, Veronica Gandini, Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 14, 2019

I have enjoyed the Batman and the Outsiders booke so far, but it's time it starts getting going at a faster pace, in my opinion.  I mean, Sofia was captured and taken away by Ra's and Batman decided to do a little team building below Gotham rather than go get her?  He talked a good game about not letting her down, but...  So, this issue I am ready for Batman to get the Outsiders and head off to knock some heads in!  Do we get that?  Let's find out...

The Flash #76 Review and *SPOILERS*

Rogue Renaissance

Written By: Joshua Williamson
Art By: Rafa Sandoval, Jordi Tarragona, Tomeu Morey
Letters By: Steve Wands
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 14, 2019

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

We have finally gotten out of the Year One storyline and looking back on it, I don’t have particularly fond memories of it. Granted, the story certainly got much better near the end but ultimately ending on a bland note. So I’m very happy that we are returning to our current day Flash but there are a couple things that I’m sure I have forgotten over the past 3 months. So we will be doing a little bit of catch up in this first issue, I’m sure. I’m really hoping that Williamson returns to form to give us an amazing story rather than another slug through the new forces with convenient exposition thrown it randomly. I’m sure the only way were are going to find out is by diving into this issue so let’s just go ahead and do just that.

Event Leviathan #3 Review

Licking Their Wounds

Written By: Brian Michael Bendis
Art By: Alex Maleev, Josh Reed
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 14, 2019

Oh boy, we're at the halfway point of an event that sadly nobody seems to be talking about.  Maybe it's because nothing has really seemed to happen yet that went beyond anything that we got in the Leviathan Rising prologues and what we saw in DC's Year of the Villain issue.  There's always the chance though that this issue can get something new going in this event and if not new..... then maybe at least fun because really...... We've had a lot of standing around and talking with some muddy looking art in my mind.  Let's jump into this issue and see if any of my problems with this event change and see if it become the big deal that it's supposed to be.  Let's check it out.
