Void Trip #1 Review

Born to be wild

Release Date: 22 November 2017

This is a tale of Ana and Gabe two psychedelic space froot freaks on the road to the promised land of hippy-paradise, the super-planet Euphoria. There's no fun in taking the direct route, so they are meandering on a trip man, a weird trip. I get the feeling that not everyone likes their counter-culture values though. Let's tune in, turn on, and drop into this issue to see what it's, like, all about man. Or not, man, whatever, anything you want, its like, cool with us.

The third issue in this sun-baked thriller starts to turn up the heat another notch. The sense of unease is growing and Los Queridos are getting more deadly by the issue. For Amalia and Randy who just wanted a quiet life away from it things are getting worse all the time, and they are getting drawn further and further into the violence that seems to be seeping through the land. Oh, and the monsters are becoming increasingly prominent in this book. Let's dive into the pool and see what the water's like this issue.

The Ruff and Reddy Show #2 Review and Spoilers

Almost Ready?

Written by: Howard Chaykin
Art by: Mac Rey
Letters by: Ken Bruzenak
Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 22, 2017

You know, everyone has regrets: that girl or guy you wanted to ask out but never quite mustered up the courage to go and talk to; those winning lottery numbers you should have put on, but somehow forgot; the ultra-rare foil cover, poly-bagged edition of that 90s comic you bought seven copies of in the hope they’d actually be worth something at some unspecified point in the future. You know what I’m talking about. In the grand scheme of things, agreeing to review The Ruff and Reddy Show for this website isn’t exactly a huge regret, but that bitter-sweet pang when I think back to the enthusiasm with which I told Jim I’d gladly review this weirdest of the already bizarre crop of Hanna-Barbera titles just won’t go away. I wonder if DC regrets commissioning the thing. Who knows? Maybe they know something I don’t. Well, there’s only one way to find out, isn’t there?

Detective Comics #969 Review

The Real Victim

Written by: James Tynion IV
Art by: Joe Bennett, Sal Regla, Jason Wright and Sal Cipriano
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: November 22, 2017

I really was excited to get Tim Drake back, but I have to say, the actual event was...well, uneventful.  I am wondering if we are going to get back to the warning of what Batwoman was going to do to ruin everything and also want to see the eventual reunion of Tim and Stephanie Brown.  Do we get any of that this week?  Let's see...

Nightwing: The New Order #4 Review

You're Our Only Hope

Written by: Kyle Higgins
Art by: Trevor McCarthy, Dean White and Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 22, 2017

This book is one of my favorites out right now and one of the reasons that I am now fully into elseworlds stories.  Before this, I was never a big fan, but with my upset with the main DCU at the moment, getting a cool alt-future story seems like it's just what the doctor ordered.  So, is this month's entry good?  Let's find out...

Justice League of America #19 Review

What's Happening Now

Written by: Steve Orlando
Art by: Hugo Petrus, Hi-Fi and Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: November 22, 2017

I am not a huge fan of this book.  I want to be, but the combination of poor characterizations, awful dialogue and stories that are nowhere near gripping have pretty much left me wanting...wanting anything different.  Since DC is not in the job of making me happy, at least with this book, I guess I have to just continue trudging onward.  So, is this issue the one that turns it all around?  Let's find out...

Crazy Wack Funky

Written by: Rob Williams
Art by: Walter Simonson, Laura Martin and Clem Robbins
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 22, 2017

While Kamandi Challenge has been pretty hit or miss, I still think I am enjoying it overall.  I say "think" because I sometimes struggle with writing the reviews only to laugh it up about it with Reggie on the podcast.  I think it's a matter of my mood going in and then obviously, my mood going out.  I want this book to be crazy fun...not a philosophical statement (I'm looking at you Tom King!) and for the most part, we have gotten a bit more of that.  So, does this penultimate issue give us fun and set us up for the big finale?  Let's find out...

Ooh, it’s the end of this weird story arc with all the flashbacks, and we’ll find out if Babs and Dick are gonna go steady! Or probably not, since sexual tension between them has become a hallmark of their relationship. It was Bob Rozakis that introduced that, in the pages of the Batman Family series from the 1970s! Realistically, Barbara should be about six to eight years older than Dick, so them smooching as teens and even young adults would be dodgy. But since The New 52, Convergence, Rebirth, Superman: Reborn, and whatever the hell is gonna happen in Doomsday Clock, who knows what’s in continuity? Check out my review of Batgirl #17, and receive no answers to that question!

Okay, here’s the end of the “Vote for Harley” story arc! Last we left it, she had pulled herself from the race, so I don’t know if people could vote for her if they wanted to. Maybe the write-in voters will have logged their ballots before Harley stepped down, and possibly other locations with paper ballots will have trouble making this change on the fly. But she can still win the write-in vote, can’t she? I’m going to look that up in my electorate encyclopedia, you can read my review of Harley Quinn #32 in the meantime!

Four weeks ago, during our review of Mother Panic #12 on the Weird Science DC Comics Dot Com Podcast, Chris and I made it seem like we might not see Young Animal books again, or at least the schedule was completely up in the air. Okay, so based on the end of the last issue, Red Wave should be unleashed from its vault on the moon. Do you think it will be anything like New Wave music? I’m hoping that this giant beast will bring the soothing synthetic sounds of the Human League or Ebn Ozn. Only two ways to find out! One: read the issue. Two: read my review of Suicide Squad #30 and budget accordingly!

It's time to jump back into the constantly stalling story of Diana meeting her twin brother Jason and the reason I say that it's stalling is because as soon as we get to an interesting part of the book, we jump back in time to see something that seemed pretty apparent from what we already got and sadly, this issue is staying consistent with that because it's time to jump back in time and see the origin of Jason, even though we spent just talked about that for most of last issue.  Hopefully, we'll get something interesting here, but if it's anything like the last prequel story that we got killing the momentum of this book........ then we're in trouble.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.
