Legion of Super-Heroes #8 Review

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Mike Allred, Andr Lima Arajo, Bilquis Evely, Sanford Greene, Cully Hamner, Dan Hipp, Joelle Jones, Dan Jurgens, Jeff Lemire, David Mack, Alex Maleev, Fabio Moon, Dustin Nguyen, Michael Avon Oeming, Yanick Paquette, Darick Robertson, Duncan Rouleau, Evan Shaner, Liam Sharp, Ryan Sook, and John Timms
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 26, 2020

The title of the story to issue 8 of Legion of Super-Heroes is set forth on the cover; however, it only spelled out in an alien alphabet within its contents. When combined with the eclectic array of artists that provide the disparate visuals, the unfortunate effect is a feeling of disconnect to the narrative growing since issue one. Writer Brian Bendis continues to leave plotlines open while making questionable creative choices, such as highlighting 22 artists to pencil different scenes in a vain attempt to create a cohesive story. Adding more chefs to the kitchen has not improved the taste of this soup.

The Flash #760 Review and *SPOILERS*

Family Vs. Legion

Written By: Joshua Williamson
Art By: Christian Duce, Scott Kolins, Luis Guerrero, Hi-Fi
Letters By: Steve Wands
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 25, 2020

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

The Flash book is coming off a high. We just had a significant issue, and frankly, we haven't had an issue that great in this series for quite some time now. However, after having several issues, just setting up everything, we finally arrived at a book that gave us entertaining story progression. We finally could look at the Flash book and honestly say that I didn't want to put the book down. Williamson is a writer that always flips between mediocrity and greatness. The latest issue was his greatness shining through; however, we do not need another trek into mediocrity. I need this creative team to capitalize on the previous book and impact this story. I know their run with this book is coming to a close, but that's all the more reason they need to keep their foot on the gas. Let's jump into this new issue and see if that's what they do.

Wonder Woman #761 Review

Head Games

Writer: Mariko Tamaki
Artist: Carlo Barberi, Matt Santorelli, Alejandro Sanchez, and Pat Brosseau
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 25, 2020

Mariko Tamaki's run on Wonder Woman has started a bit slower than I had anticipated, but the mind-control mystery has intrigued me.  Plus, ending an issue with Diana thinking she is fighting parademons when they are actual soldiers was pretty damn cool!  Sure, I want a little more explanation of the history we are playing with between Wonder Woman and "Max" Lord (I hate that), but I can put that behind me once we get to the story's meat.  Do we get there this issue?  Let's find out...

Suicide Squad #8 Review

Dogshot Indeed!

Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Daniel Sampere, Adriano Lucas, and Wes Abbott
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 25, 2020

I love being right.  Who doesn't?  But being able to say, "I told you so," because DC Comics canceled Suicide Squad sucks!  It's one of my favorite books coming out right now, and it's just starting to pick up some significant momentum.  We still have four more issues to go, including this one, so at least I have that.  Screw that!  I wanted more, and I blame all you lazy layabouts who didn't heed my warning and put this on your pull list.  I don't know who you are,  but I will never forgive you!  NEVER!!!  Now, on to my review of Suicide Squad #8, you jerks!

Batman/Superman #11 Review

He Likes Me!

Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Clayton Henry
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 26, 2020

Joshua Williamson continues his run on Batman/Superman, and I am all about the Ultra-Humanite.  He is a cool bad guy who doesn't get enough play and combining him with Atomic Skull (another favorite of mine), had me interested in this story arc from the get-go.  While the story hasn't been a classic, Williamson still has this finale to stick the landing.  Well, does he?  Let's find out...

Batgirl #48 Review

Babes in Jokerland

Writer: Cecil Castellucci
Artist: Robbi Rodriguez, Jordie Bellaire, and Andworld Design
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 26, 2020

With all the Joker War tie-ins going on right now, Batgirl has been my least favorite.  It's not that Cecil Castellucci is doing too little, but that she might be trying to do too much.  We have Barbara facing off against Joker, which is crazy, but it doesn't jive well with the overall Joker War story or the other tie-ins (especially Nightwing), and overall, it felt off.  At points, it felt empowering but forced, while other times, it felt dark and sick.  That would be fine for the Joker, but I'm talking about what Barbara herself did!  So, does this second issue make things a bit better?  Let's find out...
