Weird Science DC Comics Podcast Episode 14: Television, Rules and Week One of Convergence

Episode 14: Jim and Eric talk a little behind the scenes of their Evine Live television "performance" and struggle with the ground rules of the Convergence Event.  They seem pretty positive in general, but of course, find a bunch of things to bitch about.

Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice Teaser Trailer!

After 2 years since the announcement, we FINALLY have our first public trailer to BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE! Right from the get-go I am really enjoying the tone this trailer set. It shows that even though Superman saved everyone, the world is changed and not everyone likes it. The imagery for this trailer is awesome, seeing awesome shots of the bat-vehicles, Superman, even crowds worshiping the "False God" Superman.  But of course...we see him...Ben Affleck as Batman....He looks so much like The Dark Knight Returns Batman, its amazing!

ENOUGH OF MY RAMBLING CHECK OUT THE VIDEO!

Heating Up

From the sales numbers of the collected print version of this comic, it looks like I'm not it's only fan. Thank goodness, I was starting to worry that people weren't listening to me as I begged and pleaded with them to read this book.  Actually, it didn't take much of either to get anyone excited about Arkham Knight, it really sold itself.  Peter Tomasi's story has been strong throughout and the art from Victor Bogdanovic and Ig Guara has been stellar.  This issue is the finale of the third arc and while I am still begging for some actual Arkham Knight, the guest stars make the wait a bit easier.  Do they also make this another kick ass issue?  Let's find out...

Fanboy Theories: Batman Endgame

TRULY AN ENDGAME?

To those who haven't been reading Snyder's run on Batman, stop lying. Joke aside, this recent story arc has been quite a huge story that has shaken Gotham to it's core. The Joker has returned, with a fresh face, and is now set on ending his "relationship" with Batman. He has created the perfect Joker serum, infecting a large amount of the people of Gotham, AND the Justice League themselves. Batman has been pushed into a corner as all the heroes, villains, and even of the city push the jokerized mobs back! We also learned that the Joker has been around Gotham a LOT longer than the Batman. With the perfect Joker serum, The Justice League infected, and to top it all off Joker being immortal, this could mean the end of our Dark Knight as we know him...or will it? Will this battle be the battle for Gotham's soul? Or is this all a trick. Well my friends...THIS WEIRD SCIENTIST THEORIZES THAT NONE OF THIS STORY IS REAL! and here's why...

Time to Di(ana)

I can't tell you how much I loved last week's issue of Wonder Woman '77.  Worlds collided as Diana came face-to-face with the Cathy Lee Crosby Wonder Woman from the '74 pilot.  While it was so good for fans, it wasn't a dream come true for Diana.  In fact, it was a nightmare.  The issue ended with Diana trying to get her wits about her by finding her mother.  Was this issue as good as the last?  Let's find out...

STARRING HEROES FROM ZERO HOUR! Superman is missing, so now it’s up to Steel to defend Metropolis from the GEN13 kids!

I remember buying Superman: The Man of Steel #22 and being introduced to John Henry Irons for the first time and while I hadn't wrapped my head around the whole Reign of The Supermen arc yet, I immediately found myself in love with this great character standing up to be Superman when the world needed one.  It's the classic Steel look with the flowing red cape that I prefer and would always judge further looks of the character off of............ and none ever compared in my opinion.  I've said this for most of the previews for Convergence this week, but it feels like this week is my week................ Gen13 doesn't stand a chance!

Convergence: Green Lantern/Parallax #1 Preview

Written By: Tony Bedard
Art By: Ron Wagner, Bill Reinhold

STARRING HEROES FROM ZERO HOUR! A powerless Kyle Rayner visits a Metropolis prison to see a devastated Hal Jordan who believes he has murdered the Green Lantern Corps. But if the dome falls and powers are restored, will Parallax return to defend the city or destroy it?

It's Emerald Twilight and Emerald Dawn that got me to start reading Green Lantern "back in the day" and seeing that era here just makes me think of how far Green Lantern has come over the years and all the reasons that I love it.  This is one of the titles that I'm anticipating the most out of Convergence.

STARRING HEROES FROM ZERO HOUR! Has Kon-El earned the right to be the new Man of Steel? Kon will have to prove his mettle in battle against the Superman of Kingdom Come! But what if the only way to save Metropolis is to lose the fight?

You see that haircut?  That's how you can tell that Superboy's a bad ass......... Well, at least in the 90's it was.  I love this cocky son of a bitch and I can't wait to see the Metropolis Kid take on the Kingdom Come Superman, but it's weird because going from the solicit it looks like Superboy might take a dive and I don't know this Superboy to lose.......... on purpose.

Bruce "Cross Fit" Wayne

I have been a huge fan of the Digital First line and this book is no different.  It came out of nowhere and rocketed up my list of favorites almost immediately.  While it doesn't hurt that it's a tie-in to my most anticipated game of this year, the reason goes way beyond that.  With a great story and awesome art, it's just a damn good comic.  That being said, last week's issue was my least favorite of the series so far.  It wasn't horrible, it just was more setup than we'd gotten previously to the point of being a bit boring.  I said in my review that I hoped the setup pays off this week.  Did it?  Let's find out...

Chip Off The Old Block

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

It's time for me to get back to reviewing Mortal Kombat X, since I've been so busy and haven't been able to keep up with it.................. Nah, I just lost track of the series as Futures End winded down and Convergence was ever looming.  Busy....Pttsshh!  Anyway, in the previous issue of Mortal Kombat X, we had one of Scorpion's students become possessed by an ancient evil that Raiden's been worrying about and after it killed all of Scorpion's clan, we had our ninja bring the demon back out after overcoming it years ago.  With the help of another of his students, Scorpion defeated the enemy, then they packed up and went to go find Raiden to see what he knows and we had our God of Thunder cast a blood spell to get a handle on the coming evil.  It turns out though that he's too late and that the evil has already started.  Let's check out this issue as we get more characters and more Kombat!

STARRING HEROES FROM ZERO HOUR! What do Supergirl, Lady Quark and Ambush Bug have in common? Well ... nothing, really. But that doesn’t stop them from appearing in this story together. You are SO welcome.

I have been looking forward to this one since it was announced.  Why?  Because it looks awesome, that's why!  Keith Giffen, Lady Quark and Ambush Bug?!?! That's enough already, but throw Supergirl into the mix and I'll buy that for a dollar...of $3.99.

Trust Issues

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Even though we're already deep into Convergence, I figured I'd take this time to catch up on some reviews from the previous week........... You know, because I think you're special.......... and because I really hate missing a book, but what the hell, let's go with the special thing.  So with that in mind let's talk about some Teen Titans.  In the last issue we saw our Titan heroes take on their new found fame and go wild with it.  Beast Boy was on a SNL rip off, Bunker was approached about a show........... and the others did similar fame things as Red Robin tried to get more information about weapons that might have been stolen from the Governors Island STAR Labs site, but the investigations are going to have to be put on hold because Manchester Black brings something to Red Robin's attention.  It seems that Superboy is back and if the video taken of him is accurate, it looks like he just killed a whole mess of people.  Let's check out this issue and get some answers about if our Boy of Steel has retrogressed back into simply being a weapon.  Let's check it out.

Weird Thoughts: DC Comics Convergence Event Week One

The first week of the Convergence Event has come and gone and I have to say, I was impressed. While Dan Didio and Geoff Johns loaded up the U-Haul and headed off to Cali, us fans got some damn good stories.  Sure, we also got some not so good ones as well, but the positive really did outweigh the negative. Speaking of negative, if any of you have been listening to our podcast, you know that I'm a Negative Nancy who looks for anything and everything to get upset about. So, as you read this, please remember that I really am happy with how Convergence is going so far.  With that, here are my Weird Thoughts on Convergence: Week One.

STARRING HEROES FROM ZERO HOUR! Fresh out of recovery from a broken back, Bruce Wayne infiltrates the organized crime underworld, but the outlaw sent to test his mettle is none other than Azrael!

I feel like I've said this over and over again but the Azrael Batman and Knightfall were the things going on in DC Comics when I first started reading Batman......... Hell, it seems like this entire week of Convergence is right up my alley because the events around Zero Hour are really the time when I started reading all my favorite heroes........ It's because I was a Marvel kid and it took me a little while to get on the DC trolley.  Enough about me getting the nostalgic feels when looking at this cover, this is one of the books this week that I'm looking forward to the most and all of you should be as excited as me.

DC Comics Best Covers of the Week 4/11/15

It's time to put all of our difference aside and...Convergence. The first week of the big DC Comics event has come and gone and while I'm still trying to get my brain around the different rules and boundaries that each issue presented, as a whole I am very happy.  We got to see the Extremists, El Inferno and a whole lot of people bitching about life under the dome.  However, like Roy Harper, Stephanie Brown and Harley Quinn, you'll hear no complaints from me.  As for the covers, there were some pretty good ones which I will pick and rank for you here.  I'm good like that, or as the kids say nowadays, "Shuwante".  They do say that, right?  On with the covers...
