Batman: Curse of the White Knight #1 Review

Writing & Art: Sean Murphy
Colors & Letters: Matt Hollingsworth, AndWorldDesign
DC Comics
Release Date: July 24, 2019
Cover Price: $4.99

The White Knight Returns

Sean Murphy's mini series Batman: the White Knight was a runaway hit that garnered many different printings and was retroactively made the 'first' Black Label title due to its popularity.  I myself found it to be a refreshing take on the character in which I was immediately immersed into the world via great storytelling and art ... hell the fact it came out on a relatively tight schedule didn't hurt matters either.  It was really a breath of fresh air in the midst of a lot of Batman staleness going on at DC Comics in the recent past and present, with that said the sequel is here, and i couldn't be more excited. Let discuss Curse of the White Knight.

Detective Comics #1008 Review

Kickin' it Old School

Writer: Peter J. Tomasi
Artists: Doug Mahnke, Jaime Mendoza, Dave Baron, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: July 24th, 2019

Review by Joey Casco of TheWineStalker.net

The Clown Prince of Crime is back for a one-shot and he brings with him a bit of a nostalgic feel. It's a maniac on the loose doing maniac things and endangering citizens in a rather isolated space rather than on a city-wide or global scale, with really no other motivation other than he's just a maniac. Put aside your pickiness and enjoy a story that at its core is a modern-day version of a Silver Age Batman issue, and what should have been Tomasi's Detective #1000 contribution.

Martian Manhunter #7 Review and Spoilers

Bringing Home The Bacon

Written by: Steve Orlando
Art by: Riley Rossmo
Colors by: Ivan Plascencia
Letters by: Deron Bennett
Price: $3.99
Release Date: July 24, 2019

After last issue's more straightforward re-telling of J'onn J'onnz's final day on his home planet and, hopefully, the jettisoning of Mars-based flashbacks that, more than anything else, were distracting in their lurid excesses, I have tentative hopes that this series might become what its earlier issues promised: a noir-tinged hero's journey for a much-beloved character unexpectedly tarnished by corruption. This issue, we'll find out if those hopes are justified. So, what are we hanging around here for, then?

Freedom Fighters #7 Review

Give Me Liberty Or......

Written By: Robert Venditti
Art By: Bruno Redondo, Adriano Lucas, Andworld Design
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: July 24, 2019

Let's hop on over to Earth-X to continue watching the Freedom Fighters take their world back from the Nazi menace.  In our previous action packed issue we saw our heroes take on Adolf Hitler Jr.'s greatest achievement, the Cyborg Overman and learned in the process that this series is a direct continuation of The Multiversity: Mastermen, which just tickled my fancy because I love continuity.  With that battle, Human Bomb was captured and our heroes were forced to regroup so that they can make their next strike.  Let's hope that we don't lose anyone else as we jump into this issue and check it out.

Batman Beyond #34 Review

Remember, No Killing

Written By: Dan Jurgens
Art By: Rick Leonardi, Ande Parks, Chris Sotomayor, Travis Lanham
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: July 24, 2019

Let's get back to the future so we can see more False Face Beyond action since in the previous issue we saw the meta-human villain switch up being Bruce Wayne for the newer model of  Terry McGinnis.  If that's not enough to get your mouth salivating at the thought of comic book goodness, we also have the new speedster, fusion villain known as The Splitt out and about, trying to complete their parts collection so that they can put what they're really after together.  Can a evil doppelganger Batman take them down?  Let's check it out.

Batgirl #37 Review

Password Protected

Written By: Cecil Castellucci
Art By: Carmine Di Giandomenico, Jordie Bellaire, Andworld Design
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: July 24, 2019

I was really all about what Mairgread Scott was doing with Batgirl during her run and at the end of it I was afraid that things wouldn't continue along the same path that she had started...... for anyone who shared the same fears that I had, don't worry just yet because even though we're dealing with Cecil Castellucci's first issue of her run on this book, she's pretty much easing us into this thing by showing us the familiar.  We have the Terrible Trio here, (don't worry it makes sense) Jason Bard and all of Barbara's political volunteering associates......... and most importantly, we have Batgirl....... That's all that really matters.  Let's jump into this issue and see how things are going to be for Barbara Gordon during this run.  Let's check it out.

Justice League Dark #13 Review

History and Questions

Written By: James Tynion IV
Art By: Mark Buckingham, Mick Gray, Adriano Lucas, Rob Leigh, Daniel Sampere, Juan Albarran
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: July 24, 2019

Magic is broken, but sadly, we'll continue to wonder what that means after Wonder Woman used the chaos infused Ruby of Life to change magic in the previous issue.  This issue though, we have big and exciting things to take care of now that the Lords of Order have been put aside and Nabu has been contained within the Helm of Fate.  I say new and exciting, but what I really mean is we have a book with three chapters here that for the most part want to tell you things that you may already know.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Action Comics #1013 Review

Offers All Around

Written By: Brian Michael Bendis
Art By: Szymon Kudranski, Brad Anderson, Dave Sharpe
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: July 24, 2019

We've got Leviathan going around making his offers to people, while we have Lex Luthor doing the same thing here..... I'm waiting for a war of offers coming down the line all Highlander style, where there can only be one.  I doubt that will happen, but it's certainly a weird set of things going on in Action Comics.  Let's jump into this issue and see if we learn anything new about Leviathan, Red Cloud or Rose and Thorn.  Let's check it out.

The Flash #75 Review and *SPOILERS*

Rise Up

Written By: Joshua Williamson, Howard Porter
Art By: Howard Porter, Hi-Fi, Scott Kolins, Luis Guerrero
Letters By: Steve Wands
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: July 24, 2019

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

The most previous issue of the Flash really set the bar high for this story as we suddenly went from a story that I cared very little about to a story I was anxiously awaiting the next installment of. And now here we are with the finale of the Year One storyline. As I’ve more time to sit on it recently, I still think this story overall has been a little boring BUT I am really looking forward to the finale as the previous issue was something really special. However, now the creative team needs to stick the landing otherwise it will have only been a single great issue in the middle of a tedious story arc. The Flash faces off with the Turtle from the past and the future so let’s just jump into this issue and see where it takes us.
