Go for the Gold

Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: March 16, 2021

I know that Reggie is laughing at me right now.  If you don't know who Reggie is, then you are an unlucky person, but Reggie was a friend of just about everyone he met and a part of our podcast and website.  Most importantly, he was our brother.  Neal Adams' books were me and Reggie's special bond.  Eric wanted no parts of them, so it was always our job to cover them.  Even when I begged him to skip them, Reggie would do the written reviews and then force me to record for the podcast.  The thing is, he did it to drive me nuts!  Some of the best times I had on our podcast were losing my mind over a Neal Adams book and just listening to Reggie laugh his ass off over my insanity.  It would start early in the week with us DMing pics from the issue while we laughed and tried to figure it all out.  We rarely succeeded, and I would get angrier and angrier as the week went on.  I miss those times so much, but not as much as I miss Reggie.  It doesn't feel right doing this review without him, but I know he would have demanded it... again, to drive me nuts!  Believe me, Reggie, this one is a doozy, and this review is for you...

It's not only a brave new world for DC Comics with their Infinite Frontier era of comics, but it's also a brave new world for Justice League as Brian Michael Bendis takes over the book and while I've had my problems with the way that he writes DC characters and at times seems like he doesn't really know the characters, I'm going to go into this with no baggage and just look for a comic that I can hopefully get behind because who doesn't want to love the Justice League? Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Nightwing #78 Review

Don't be a Ric

Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Bruno Redondo, Adriano Lucas, and Wes Abbott
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: March 16, 2021

If you are a Dick Grayson fan like me, you have been through some tough times lately.  Yea, Dan Didio is no longer around ready to drop the guillotine on our boy's head, but we still had to suffer through years of Ric Grayson.  YEARS!!!  I know that Wally West fans think they've cornered the "DC is out to screw us" market, but for a while there, it was a neck-and-neck race.  As the saying goes, good things come to those who wait.  Yea, I think that's a load of horseshit myself (I've been waiting for my jetpack to arrive for at least twenty Christmases), but lo and behold, Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo are starting their Nightwing run!  It's a Christmas Miracle (in March), and I couldn't be happier.  I know I shouldn't spoil my review in the opening paragraph, but I am too damn excited!  This issue rocks, and I couldn't be happier.  On to the review...

This new series presents fresh new visions of the Man of Steel in his two signature colors of red and blue! Around the world, everyone knows that when they see a red and blue streak in the sky, it’s not a bird...it’s not a plane...it’s Superman.
To start things off, Academy Award-winning writer of DC Future State: The Next Batman John Ridley joins artist Clayton Henry (Batman/Superman) to tell a story of Clark Kent as he confronts a villain who still haunts him, in a story that shows what Superman can mean to a whole country. Then, Brandon Easton (DC Future State’s “Mister Miracle”) and Steve Lieber (Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen) take readers to the streets of Metropolis to show how one hero can mean so much to an individual in pain.
Plus, writer/artist Wes Craig (Deadly Class) tells a tale of Superman’s early days and the man who inspired him to become the hero he is today! And Marguerite Bennett (DC Future State: Kara Zor-El, Superwoman) and artist Jill Thompson give us a tale of teenage Clark Kent, while Dan Watters and Dani, the team behind Coffin Bound, bring us an outlandish fable about what happens when all colors are stolen!
