Extremity #5 Review

Dental Plan

Writer: Daniel Warren JohnsonArtist: Daniel Warren JohnsonPublisher: Image ComicsRelease Date: July 5, 2017Cover Price: $3.99

With this being one of my favorite ongoing comics, I was somewhat disappointed in the last issue as it seemed like things were rushing to an end. With how much world-building and hints of views within the world we were getting I feel this world is ripe for more storytelling but the issues have started to make me feel like this could go the way of a more small short story. Will my worries be quelled with the current issue or are we moving ever closer to this story's end? Find out along with some of my thoughts after the jump.

Babyteeth #2 Review

1

Yea Baby!
Writer: Donny CatesArtist: Garry BrownPublisher: Aftershock ComicsRelease Date: July 5, 2017Cover Price: $3.99

After the first issue of Babyteeth I was a little down on the complete package, but I was intrigued and interested in the concept overall. I like the concept of skipping past all the Omen foreshadowing tropes or the back and forth of ‘is it’ or ‘isn’t it’. From the second issue I’d actually like a little more character and less of what felt like a pilot or a concept proof.  So will the second issue do more to pull me in, or will I be left not really satisfied.

NON SPOILERS AND SCORE AT THE BOTTOM

I wasn’t sure what I was getting into jumping on the series. Lately, I’ve been following this entire teams IDW’s Judge Dredd ongoing series. It’s one of those things where I keep an out eye for the next project and go in blind. That method can either pay off or be a dud, in this case, this mini-series has my attention.

Could New Super-Man be the book that best represents DC Rebirth?

What book comes to mind when you think of the original announcement of Rebirth?

To me it’s not a question. When I think of Rebirth, and its promises, I think of New Super-Man. I think of Kenan Kong. I think of the Bat-Man and Wonder Woman of China, or even the new addition of Robinbot. When it comes to Rebirth I think there is no other book that personifies the promises and message of Rebirth greater than New Super-Man, and I’d like to tell you why.

Lettered By: Saida Temofonte
Cover Price: $3.99
On Sale Date: July 5, 2017

It's so weird we're discussing bombs going off in the New Mexico desert here... as it's also been touched on in Twin Peaks.

So peculiar, I go three and a half decades giving it little to no thought, and here it is seeping it's way into my life in some strange ways!

Deathstroke #21 Review

Crisscross Apple Sauce

Written by: Christopher Priest
Art by: Diogenes Neves, Jason Paz, Jeromy Cox and Willie Shubert
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: July 5, 2017

While the Lazarus Contract was not great, I do like what it has lead to in the Deathstroke book.  The "Stroke Squad" (patent pending) is such a cool concept in and of itself, but couple it with a Slade that has found a higher purpose and you have a solid gold opportunity for some kick ass stories.  Of course, Christopher Priest has proven that he can take such opportunities and run with them so to say I am excited for this book going forward is an understatement.  So, is it good enough to keep me gushing?  Let's find out...

Justice League #24 Review

Water Sports

Written by: Dan Abnett
Art by: Ian Churchill, Adriano Lucas and Richard Starkings
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: July 5, 2017

Another issue of Justice League without Bryan Hitch?  Well, color me tickled pink and even more so that we get Dan Abnett on this issue.  It's a Mera issue so that makes a whole lot of sense and I don't want to sound like a jerk, but that hasn't been DC's strong suit in the past. So, does Mera show up and tell the League what has happened to Arthur and then kick their asses or vice versa?  Let's find out...

Team-Down?

Art by: Stephen Byrne and Nate Piekos
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: July 5, 2017

It's the start of the Hard Traveling Hero arc and I am still trying to wrap my head around the idea of Ollie skipping town (and Kate Spencer) after getting bailed out of jail.  I guess he can just kiss that ten million dollars in bail money goodbye...unless he is innocent.  Actually, I don't know how any of this court mumbo jumbo works and hey, it's comics so I really don't need to.  So, now that I am good to go, I am looking forward to seeing Ollie hit the road and take down those damn Ninth Circle bastards and by the looks of the cover, he'll have Flash to help him out.  Sounds cool, but is it?  Let's find out...

I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July yesterday, or however many days ago it was from the date that you’re reading this. And yes, that can go for every person on Earth! For you see, while the Fourth of July may hold special significance to Americans, I wish everyone a pleasant day, every day of the year—and that includes July 4! The only day I don’t wish you well is February 29. That date is an abomination and it should not exist, and people born on that date are automatically demons. Having taken care of that formality, check out my review of Harley Quinn #23, right here!

Superman #26 Review and *SPOILERS*

My Boy Grew Up Just As Stubborn As Me

Written By: Michael Moreci
Art By: Scott Godlewski, Hi-Fi, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: July 5, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Okay, now that Manchester Black is out of commission and in the body of a cow for as long as we need to keep him there, it seems that we can put all of the previous arcs behind us and move on and originally I thought that that would mean that we'd be leaving Hamilton County immediately, but it seems that we have a fill in creative team telling us a story, while Tomasi and Gleason take a second to catch their breaths after all they've done so far.  So with that, we're still in Hamilton County, with Superman trying to teach his son the same kind of lessons that his father taught him.  Let's jump into this issue and see if Jon's as quick on the uptake as Clark was himself.  Let's check it out.

Nightwing #24 Review and *SPOILERS*

Running Man

Written By: Tim Seeley
Art By: Miguel Mendonca, Diana Conesa, Chris Sotomayor, Carlos M. Mangual
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: July 5, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

I've really been loving this Blockbuster arc of Nightwing because where I was worried that it was just going to rehash what Chuck Dixon did in the 90's it instead used those characters and Tim Seeley made something that was purely his own in a fun and interesting way.  In the previous issue, we saw our hero using the information that Roland Desmond gave him about some crooked cops working for Tiger Shark in bringing the high tech guns from The Second Hand into Bludhaven, but what Nightwing didn't count on was a trap from the villain, who set him up to be used as a demonstration for all the villains that have come to Bludhaven looking for some new toys to continue their evil affairs.  Let's jump into this issue and see how Nightwing can stand against a shit load of villains that have been featured throughout Rebirth lately and if he finishes that off, a smart Blockbuster as well.  Let's check it out.

Green Lanterns #26 Review and *SPOILERS*

Betrayal!....... and Recap

Written By: Sam Humphries
Art By: Ronan Cliquet, Ulises Arreola, Dave Sharpe
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: July 5, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

In our previous Extra-Sized Anniversary issue of Green Lanterns, we finally got our story moving in the direction that we've all wanted it to for a long ass time now and that's getting Volthoom back right and proper and showing himself to our heroes and with that, showing us what he had planned in seeking his revenge against the Guardians and the Lanterns themselves.  Yeah, it kind of turned into Volthoom just pretty much saying he's taking his ball and going back home to Earth-15, but it got us moving in the right direction at least and even did something that I wasn't expecting....... sending our heroes off to parts unknown, where they may just meet the Ultimate Warrior.  Yeah, that probably won't happen, but by the end of the previous issue, I was at least intrigued with where the story was going.  Let's jump into this issue and see what's going on in the world of the Green Lanterns and what trials they might face now that they're in a strange place and possible time and Simon being ringless.  Let's check it out.

Cyborg #14 Review and *SPOILERS*

Parallel World's End

Written By: John Semper Jr.
Art By: Will Conrad, Ivan Nunes, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: July 5, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Goddamn, has this story been rough and that sucks even worse to me because even though we've had different arc names, we're essentially still dealing with the same story from the beginning of this series.  In our previous issue we saw our villain Anomaly enact his master plan to bring about cybernetic dominance on Earth and that had to do with bringing online a device that opened a wormhole, which a voice in head was telling him to build this whole time and we saw our heroes sucked in.  Hopefully, with the fact that Black Narcissus wasn't around for the big suck, she'll be able to do some reverse-o, switcheroo on the gizmo and get them back, but until then let's check out what's on the other side of the wormhole and find out who was talking to Anomaly this whole time.  Let's check it out.

Batman #26 Review and *SPOILERS*

Death Threats and War Cries

Written By: Tom King
Art By: Mikel Janin, June Chung, Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: July 5, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Well, you all went and done it now.  Since you gave Jimmy Boy such a hard time about his thoughts on the beginning of the War of Jokes and Riddles, he's now taken on the duties of reviewing JLA from me and I'm now up to the plate on Batman........... where you'll probably give me a hard time too, but we must move on.  In our previous issue of Batman, we saw Bruce telling Selena a tale about when he failed at being the hero that the city needed and it had to do with Riddler escaping custody and trying to create an alliance with Joker so that the two could kill Batman together and with that, get the peace that the two needed with their respective jokes and riddles........... Yeah, that didn't work out and the Joker tried to kill Riddler and that seems to be where the war will begin.  Let's jump into this issue and see what these two crazy villains are up to and what our Dark Knight will do to screw things up so bad that he feels he must turn it into pillow talk.  Let's check it out.

Bane: Conquest #3 Review and *SPOILERS*

The World Is........ Just Enough

Written By: Chuck Dixon
Art By: Graham Nolan, Gregory Wright, Carlos M. Mangual
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: July 5, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Oh, this has been a topsy turvy run so far and that's crazy because this is only the third issue of the book.  See, in the first issue we were just thrown into a Bane story, which just left me confused as to where we were in the continuity since we just got out of a Bane story in the Batman series and by the end of it I really wasn't sure where this maxi-series would fit in the timeline of events.  Once we got to the second issue though......... even though Batman has his current costume on, it really came off to me that we were just continuing where Dixon and Graham left off with the Bane character back in the 90's and I could leave all my continuity OCD behind me because it was just a story for the sake of being a story that didn't have to fall into any tidy timelines........ Which maybe that's the reason that I found myself really enjoying the second issue to this run so much, not to mention it was just a bunch of fun that continued the story and brought Batman and Bane together as unexpected allies.  Let's jump into this issue and see where that alliance leads us as the Caped Crusader and the title character escape Damocles' prison and search for whoever is actually in charge behind the curtain.  Let's check it out.
