DC Horror Presents Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead #4 continues Easy Company's chase of Hitler's doctor, Morell, over the river and through the woods in Nazi-occupied Germany.

Is It Good?

Yes, this is perfect. DC Horror Presents Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead #4 is a simple, clean, action-packed chapter in Bruce Campbell's alt-history adventure starring the titular character and his men. Honestly, there's not a blessed technical nit to pick with this issue. If you're into WWII-era action stories with a horror twist, you should be reading this comic.

When last we left our Allied soldiers, Dr. Morell drove off to his secret lab with Sgt. Rock and Easy Company maintains a safe but watchful distance. Now, Easy company is forced to contend with snipers, uncooperative checkpoints, and plenty of undead Nazis to flamethrow, shoot, and blow up.

In terms of plot, only a little happens in this issue other than witnessing Easy Company navigate the gauntlet of challenges while they follow Morell to his final destination. Still, the gauntlet is entertaining enough that you don't mind the lack of plot progression. The pacing is brisk, the dialog is a fun-filled collection of gritty exclamations and snarky wit, and the action is exciting.

Risso and Rossi deliver great art in this issue, possibly better art than the previous issues in this series. The combat action pops with big wow moments, and Risso's use of negative space and silhouettes amps up the dramatic impact.

This is a short review because there's little meat to this issue, but you get pure wartime action fun.

Bits and Pieces:

DC Horror Presents: Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead #4 is an unapologetic hoot of a wartime/horror mashup. The plot only moves forward a little since Easy Company is distracted with surviving their trek through the countryside, but the lack of plot is more than made up for with eye-popping action, wit, and excitement.

8.5/10
