Nightwing #87 finally gets us out of Fear State, and while Tom Taylor was doing his best with the crumbs from a nothing story, Bruno Redondo was working hard to get this issue ready.  A continuous-art issue with Haley the Dog in trouble?!?  Let's see if it's any good...

An issue like Nightwing #87 does not usually suck me in, but I love Bruno Redondo's art, and it's an excellent way to get back to the book after months of tie-ins.  The concept is 100% Tom Taylor, but the show's star is Redondo.  If you have enjoyed their run up until now, you will undoubtedly love this issue. However, if you haven't been digging what Taylor and Redondo are bringing each month, you may want to wait until next month.

Nightwing #87 Review

The actual story is just to set up the spectacle.  There is a price of Dick Grayson's head, and some bad guys have taken Dick's dog hostage to collect the money. So the reader gets to follow Nightwing and Batgirl as they drive, kick and punch their way through Bludhaven to save their pup.  There are plenty of callbacks and easter eggs from this run, making Bludhaven feel like a lived-in tangible place.

I'm not going to spoil the end, but there are no real big shockers here.  That's not what this is about.  Bruno Redondo gets to mark off the continuous art issue from his bucket list, and fans can go along for the ride.

Bits and Pieces:

Nightwing #87 is all about the art, and while some may look at it as a gimmick, I liked it.  Tom Taylor sets up the stakes, and Bruno Redondo goes from there.  I wouldn't say it's an essential issue, but fans of this run will undoubtedly enjoy it.
