After two issues in a row I wasn’t a fan of, I didn’t have high hopes for this one. Sure Luke Cage has an awesome Netflix show now, but I don’t think that could save this comic. Let’s see if the two heroes could stand up to Captain Marvel. Hint: I doubt it.

For anyone that thought the Night of the Monster Men story was a bunch of bologna and jumped off halfway through, take that leftover money you saved and go buy the first trade of Moon Knight and get caught up to this point. You don’t need to be well versed in the history of a B-list (at best) character to appreciate a fantastically crafter comic book. Jeff Lemire is taking Marc Spector on a roller coaster through his different personas, and that’s one ride I want to be in the front row for.

If I walked into a comic book shop looking for a comic about Han Solo, it’d be pretty confusing to pick up Marvel’s recently launched Solo series and find out it has nothing to do with Han, Chewie, or any of the Star Wars gang. Personally, I think Marvel maybe should’ve waited to release that title so as to not confuse people. This book has been really good thus far, and I wouldn’t want anyone to be looking for it and mistakenly get something else. But I digress from my disgruntlement about Marvel not thinking things through. Let’s just jump in and see how this HAN Solo book plays out, shall we?

I am a new inductee to Deadpool comics, but like I explained in my review for the latest Deadpool
and the Mercs for Money, you'd have to live under some rock nowadays to not know who Deadpool is.  I, in fact, live in a house and know a bit (enough?) about the Merc with a Mouth to jump into this review with no reservations whatsoever.  It doesn't hurt that this is a one-shot issue.  So, did I get a good issue for my first ever Deadpool review?  Let's find out...

I’m not really someone who analyzes comic book numbers. This is mostly because I like what I like and how many copies a book sells doesn’t impact my enjoyment of the events within the issues I buy.  What I do notice however is that Gwenpool has climbed the ladder of my own personal pull list to must buy territory each month it’s released.  Now I’m well aware of the backlash and hate various people have for this book too and my response would be to read any issue and try your damnedest not to smile, or even belly laugh, half a dozen times. This book is on par with Marvel’s best comedy offerings to date and with a fresh jumping on point, to go along with Marvel Now!, it’s time to take down that no fun wall you’ve built in your brain and join me for a good time.

Out of a slew of new number one issues hitting stands throughout the next few months for Marvel Comics, the Clone Conspiracy was the series I looked most forward to picking up. The title is replacing the Amazing Spider-Man, as the main in continuity Peter Parker related series, while the former provides supplemental material, along with Prowler and Silk, for this events duration.  I’ve made no secret of my unabashed love for the blue hoody Scarlet Spider, who spun out of the Clone fiasco back in the 90’s, so nostalgia is contributing to my interest here, but I’m fine with that, and if you’re picking this up you should be too.  So with the stage now set in the last few issues of Amazing lets dig in to this new #1 and see what it has in store for us Web Heads.

It all comes down to this issue. So far, this series has had one great issue and one lackluster one. Considering this is the final issue, it will be the deciding factor about this series. Now, Civil War II has been a mess and I think many people have jumped ship due to it so I doubt this series is on a whole lot of other people’s radar. That said, the series promised a bit of insight into the character Ulysses. Considering the character is the center of such a huge crossover event, I’d say it is about time. Unfortunately, at this point I cannot say that I know more about Ulysses than I did prior to this series but I could always be proven wrong. Will this series end on a high note? Will we finally know more about this Ulysses character? Let’s find out.

Most people can recall Wimpy J. Wellington’s refrain, “I’d gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today” from Popeye cartoons and comics, but how many people remember “Come on up for a duck dinner—you bring the duck!”? That one was really popular in the early E.C. Segar comic strips and Fleischer Studios cartoons. In fact, in the triple-length film Popeye Meets Sindbad the Sailor, Wimpy is seen on Sindbad’s island chasing a duck around with a meat grinder. Anyway, here’s a review of the last issue of Howard the Duck by Chip Zdarsky and Joe Quinones, which is, incidentally, not as good as Popeye.

So you know me: it's your boy, Reggie. The comics enthusiast. Co-host of Cosmic Treadmill and Weird Comics History (which can be heard though the feed of this site’s podcast!) Fanatic of the oddball and stupid comic books most people wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole. And unapologetic DC Comics supporter. It’s not a big issue with me, just that two roads diverged in the yellow wood, and I took the one with Superman at the end of it. So when it comes to Marvel, I know the broad strokes. And mostly the Silver Age strokes. I’m just going to say it: I’ve never read the original Great Lakes Avengers series. I know of it, I have heard about it and learned some some stuff, but in general I don’t really know a danged thing. Except that Squirrel Girl was in it. And that it was a kind of weird, humorous book that is generally of the type that is to my liking. So with those two facts in my arsenal, I have decided to forgo Wikipedia research and dive right in to issue #1 of Great Lakes Avengers—volume two!

With Halloween approaching I figured I'd mix things up a bit and get a little spicy and try to expand my horror horizons by doing something other than just sitting around and watching horror flicks like I do every year.......... and by expand my horizons I mean, I'm simply reading horror comics instead.  Now, I've gone on and on about how much I love the Puppet Master series and even though I've fallen behind in the normal comic series, when Action Labs put out a special Halloween issue to the series, I just had to read it because........... Well, because it fits all the criteria to the things I love.  Comics, Puppet Master and Halloween, it's all there and who doesn't love a nice one-shot every now and then?  Let's jump into this Halloween issue that takes us all the way back to 1989 and see a story that takes place between the first and second films in the franchise.  Let's check it out.

Last week’s episode reintroduced us to a more brutal Green Arrow as he attempted to reassemble his old teammates back into the fold.  Despite Ollie best efforts nobody was feeling the “squad life” any longer leaving Arrow to think about bringing in new crew members.  Meanwhile we saw introductory glimpses of a couple new bad guys, one leaving me more excited than the other.  Let’s jump into the fray here and see what week two of season five has in store for the viewers.
