Mariko Tamaki's run on Detective Comics is over, and like her previous runs on Wonder Woman and X-23, I wasn't a fan!  I am not saying she is a lousy writer; she is an Eisner winner, for crying out loud, and her Supergirl Being Super was fantastic.   I also enjoyed the heck out of her Double-Trouble stuff at Marvel.  However, in my opinion, her writing style does not fit big superhero comics; unfortunately, some characters are big superheroes.  It never felt like she got a good grip on Batman during this run, and she even seemed to conspire against him at times.  Tamaki's Batman wasn't very good at being Batman, and while she focused a bit more on Bruce Wayne, he wasn't much better.  We have this last issue to get through, and then Ram V will start his run.  So, how was this finale?  Let's find out...

I was into the DC vs. Vampires book until it went away for months, only giving readers these one-shots instead of actual issues of the max-series.  Seriously, why is DC trying to milk this series?  I guess I know the answer, but if you have been paying attention, this book isn't selling as well as DCeased did, though I think DC might be pretending it is.  So, instead of the beginning of the second half of the series, we get another one-shot, this one featuring Harley Quinn as she tries to run the Gotham Underworld while avoiding the bite of the Vamp  Nation.

Full disclosure: Young Justice is my favorite team in all of comics. I grew up on Geoff Johns' Teen Titans run with that cast of characters, and apart from the awfulness of the Bendis era, I genuinely have a great time when all of these characters come together regardless of the context. While I’m sure to give Fitzmartin more leeway than most simply because this is my favorite team, I’ll do my best to be a comic reviewer first and a fan of this team second. Spoilers lay ahead!

Nightwing is a book I should be loving.  Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo are two of my favorite creators, and Dick Grayson is my favorite character.  I used to joke on the podcast that Dick Grayson's superpower is being a nice guy, and Tom Taylor writes that aspect into every issue of this series.  So what's not to love?  For me, it's the constant fan service over story progression as if Tom Taylor thinks we will forget if he doesn't keep reminding us how great Dick Grayson is.  To do this, Dick seems never to do anything wrong and has the entire DCU jumping in to save him at any moment.  That's cool and all, but I need more.  Hopefully, we will get that with The Heartless finally stepping things up and Blockbuster about to blow a gasket!

I was impressed with the beginning of Tini Howard's Catwoman run.  She was playing my song, grabbing things from Genevieve Valentine's earlier run while continuing the caring and smarts that Ram V pushed in his Catwoman book.  I don't know why this book suddenly became a Harley/Selina team-up, but it changed the book's tone and feels desperate.  But it's way too soon for that kind of move, and looking at the sales numbers, this book isn't doing that poorly.  We may never know what's going on, but I'm here to review the issue so let's get on with it.

Now going into this issue I want you to take everything you know about Black Adam and kind of throw it away..... or combine the Pre-Flashpoint Black Adam with his more contemporary version.... or just go with the story that we have here because ultimately it looks like we're going to have a Black Adam in this twelve-issue limited series that's just Priest's interpretation and I guess if we're going to read this book, we're going to have to go with it. Let's check it out.
