Tim Drake is back and...actually, Tim Drakes are back and while I am still a bit wary about where all of this will go, last issue's cliffhanger was pretty damn awesome!  It looks like our Tim will be back in the DCU and I really do want to see how that goes down.  There is still that bit with the Tim Drake of Tomorrow to take care of as well and that leads to this week's issue.  So, is it any good?  Let's find out...

The issue opens up with a little peek at the Gotham City of Tomorrow.  It seems mainly to show just how bad a guy this future alt Tim Drake is, but there is also a little Superman and a very biting bit with Stephanie Brown.  Yea, this timeline is not great for old Timmy boy.

Back in Oz's Prison, the two Tims are fighting off Doomsday and when they stop him for a moment, Bat Tim shows how prepared he is and also has a plan to escape.  Then we get one of the best parts of the issue when Bat Tim explains how he became Batman in his timeline.

There is nothing really shocking, just a bit disappointing if you're a Dick Grayson fan and really messed up if you're a Tim Drake one.  If you are a Jason fan, then you are used to shit going way wrong!  That's when Bat Tim drops some knowledge that the real villain is Batwoman!

After they trick Doomsday, they do get back to our Gotham and that's when we get the bombshell...our Tim doesn't remember Conner.  As in Conner Kent.  As in the Superboy of the New 52 and teammate of Tim's on the Teen Titans.  The last we saw, he was heading into the future with Bart, but that seems off the table now.  Did Superman Reborn do it?  Dr. Manhattan?  Something else?  Obviously, I have no idea, but I want to know!!!

After that, Bat Tim figures out he is connected to this Timeline and heads off to make things right.  Of course, his right is oh so wrong!

This is one of those better issues of Detective Comics.  James Tynion sets up the Tim Drake of Tomorrow as the brutal guy he is and those who never read the Teen Titans of Tomorrow arc by Geoff Johns are up to speed right away.  However, it's all about the Conner bombshell that has me fired up.  Oh yea, Tim is back in Gotham...that's pretty big too!

Eddy Barrows is back to kicking ass this issue.  I will now forget the odd looking Tim of last issue.  I really want to forget the odd looking Tim from last issue!

Bits and Pieces:

Tim Drake is back in business, but there are two of them in Gotham with a few days to kill.  This issue has some major moments setting up a mystery with Conner Kent and Batwoman in some big trouble.  This is one of the better issues of Detective Comics.

8.0/10

  1. Great review! You give me hope for Detective's direction.

"Eddy Barrows is back to licking ass this issue."

But you MIGHT want to edit it a little. . .

  3. I thought this is was to short. And I'm probably the only person out there that thinks older Tim getting the better of doomsday is trash writing. The only saving grace this apparent setup arc for a batwoman arc is the Conner is finally mentioned again.

    2. It has to be the merging of the to superman. Because if Clark rembered the pre flashpoint superboy, Then when he met the n52 superboy back in that H'EL arc he would have took him into the family. The fact that N52 superboy went to the future probably saved his life, since he was in the future he couldn't be erased in the present when the 2 continuitys merged.

    3. I'm wondering if jon being around erased him

    4. I feel like if Conner would have been around in the present at the time the 2 continuitys merged he would have been erased. But since he essentially time traveled to the future he is safe because he's a man out of time, I guess sorta like Reverse Flash.

  4. they mentioned what the reason for very robin other than Tim not being batman. I wonder how terry fits into that logic. Or if it even matters in the end.

    2. That shit passed me off about Jason. Jason's core attribute as a character is to never give up, just as much as dicks is being a great guy. Once again writers of DC don't know what makes the character, this is how Jason was handled during Morrison's run.
