I guess we're fated to keep reading this series forever because for whatever reason, DC just wants it to go on and on...... and I have no idea why.  I've seen the sales and they're not great and I don't hear anyone clamoring about how great the Doctor Fate series is............ I also haven't been looking and am on the verge of becoming an agoraphobe so maybe I'm not the best person to talk to about all these things but personally, there isn't much to this at all...... and it's been that way since the beginning.  Yeah, it's become a bit more tolerable since Kent Nelson has started showing up and mentoring Khalid in how to use his powers, but ultimately it seems that his involvement is all about him fixing the problems that Khalid just can't handle......... and that's everything.  Hopefully that stops soon so that we can get a decent character out of this young Doctor Fate, but I wouldn't bet on it.  Let's jump into this issue and see if anything here matters.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins in a weird way........... Well, weird for me and my expectations of kids today, but it starts with Khalid studying in his room, while texting his girlfriend Shaya to see if she wants to study together, but she's already studying in Central Park...... The thing that's weird to me is I would have figured that younger people would be able to coordinate better and possibly make plans...... instead of back and forth you come here, no you come here........ That's just me though and I haven't texted someone since 2006 so what do I know?  That's our setup though, for the rest of the issue our hero has to get to Central Park because out of nowhere Shaya is attacked by a mummy and as it turns out it seems like mummies have taken over the whole damn city because they're everywhere........ Well, they're in Central Park and on the street where Khalid lives with his parents.

Is it convenient that the mummies are at these two places?  Probably, but we're also dealing with the fact that they might be going after Khalid personally for his power........ or for leaving the doorway to the afterlife open, at least that's what Kent Nelson thinks when he Fates the hell up so that he can take care of the situation going on in New York, but we all saw Khalid close that particular door....... So really, who knows what's up.

All in all, Khalid takes out one mummy, saves a couple in the park and eventually saves his girlfriend without her knowing that he's Khalid under the helmet, but for all the mummies we saw on the loose, that's not really a big win for our hero, especially after we saw Kent Nelson come along and stop a shit ton in the streets of New York........ which seems to end the situation, but after everyone's gone back to living their humdrum lives like they weren't just attacked by mother fucking mummies, we see that some big bad mystical mamma jamma has entered our world from beyond and judging from his stink face, he's not here to play nice.

That's it for this issue of Doctor Fate and like most other issues in this series, it's pretty boring, but really consistent in its type of boring-ness........ I mean, at least I know what I'm getting going into an issue of Doctor Fate and don't really have to worry about too much because there never seems to be a larger over arching story going on......... Hell, even when we had Anubis flooding the world, it never felt like a big deal and that's remained throughout this run.  Maybe that will change with stink face guy, but I doubt it and I'm just left wondering after reading this issue, how many more can we possibly have because there's nothing to this.  The art, like the story is very standard for this series and while I don't really enjoy it, it does do a good job in continuing what we've seen so far....... So hopefully you like that kind of thing...... Yeah, there really isn't too much to say about this issue, just Khalid being Khalid and magical things happening to ruin his day, while Nabu continues to be no help to him.

Bits and Pieces:

Doctor Fate continues to just putter along in the purgatory that is this series........ I mean, it's never ending and nothing ever really happens.  It's your normal run of the mill issue, where monsters come, Khalid tries and Kent Nelson does, while the art does it's thing that I personally don't enjoy, but conveys everything it needs to............ Why won't this series end?

6/10
